I'll put it in my calendar so I don't get distracted by other books and activities. And I'll start the 17th. I have both hard copy and audio books. Which will you read? The nice thing about the audio is Kate Reading's narration, but my husband doesn't like hearing my books, so I have limited listening time.
I'll be listening. I really like her voice, the best thing about her narration is that I can easily distinguish between the characters.
I had already read the series when I saw they had come out in audiobook. Since I had fallen in love with Reading's narration in
, I immediately snatched up the whole series from Audible. There must have also been a sale or else I had a bunch of credits to use as well.
Cyril was the original captain of the First Aleran when Tavi arrived until he lost his leg in battle.
ShoSho wrote: "What's the name of this senator? Anus? He's one :D"Yes he is! I'm on hold with my listening, as DH is hanging out in the kitchen and wants to chat.
ShoSho, how far along are you? I stayed up too late last night listening and made it into chapter 24. A lot of personal challenges in this one.
I think I'm listening to 18. Things are going downhill fast for Tavi! But I'm sure he'll find a way around :D
ShoSho wrote: "I'm trying to guess how he's going to free Varg."I like the issues he's dealing with about upholding laws. But, then he does still go his own way.
This site lists all of the tropes that are included in this series, and there are a LOT. Some of them are really funny, like the Absurdly Sharp Sword and the pairing of Captain Smooth and Sergeant Rough.Be careful reading! While the real spoilers are whited out, there is mention of comments or facts that might constitute a spoiler for you.

Oh wait, I like the name of this trope: Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass. Of course this refers to Araris.

I can't wait for Tavi to do a brilliant show of his furies soon. Of course we don't know exactly how strong he is at fury crafting yet but I'm hoping that he is very strong.
I agree. It seems that he is starting to develop some automatic use of some basic fury crafting, but not anything impressive yet. What do you think about Gaius's adventure?

I do't think he told the whole thing to Amara and Bernard. I didn't get exactly what he's going to do but whatever it is, there is more to it.
I'm in very stressful RL situation, my mind is all over the place. I've been listening a lot but I find myself zoning out thinking about RL stuff a lot and I have to listen again. Anyway I think this book so far is one the best books in the series . The scenes and talks and thoughts of the characters are deep and emotional. I'm loving it.
ShoSho, I agree that this book is better. The characters have real challenges to face that deal with their sense of who they are and what they can do. While there is plenty of craziness, there are also longer struggles.Gisela, that was a fun scene, wasn't it?
Hee hee: "Quiet in the ranks." He gave the man a glare, and said, "You might hurt the pansies' feelings."

It was funny and really loled!

I think it will give him an appreciation for what Tavi's life was like without any furies.

Huh good point! I was expecting more of Gaius! I think he wasn't prepared at all when he had known for months that he was going to do this.
Gisela wrote: "Chapter 23What did you think of this?"
I think that Tavi is less dependent on his power. So, he has the same ability to lead, to inspire people to do things they know are crazy dangerous, and to see the fuller implications of actions. However, he has had to learn to work very outside the way everyone else did things, so his thinking means he finds solutions others wouldn't.
This makes him more dangerous to his enemies, and more seductive to others, as he manages to overcome impossible odds again and again.
I just realized, at no point do we see women fawning over Tavi. Even when he's grown and must be considered attractive. Maybe it's because his growth has occurred while in the First Aleran, and Kitai has been there the whole time.

Very true. Tavi thinks so out of the box that it's nearly impossible to predict what he'll do next.
Lara wrote: "I just realized, at no point do we see women fawning over Tavi. Even when he's grown and must be considered attractive. Maybe it's because his growth has occurred while in the First Aleran, and Kit..."Yrs, although Kitai's cousin does check him out often.

Oh that's exactly where I was when I stopped last night. So chapter 49

Hunh, I thought it was related to contact with the ocean fury. She had contact when trying to cure Fade as well. And desperation/love has definitely driven her to do more.
Araris is pretty awesome as a person. So very self-sacrificing and loyal, but willing to be happy with having his love returned.

After two years of bitter conflict with the hordes of invading Canim warriors, Tavi of Calderon, now captain of the First Aleran Legion, realizes that a peril far greater than the Canim exists - the mysterious threat that drove the savage Canim to flee their homeland.
Tavi proposes attempting an alliance with the Canim against their common foe, but his warnings go unheeded. For the Senate's newly appointed military commander has long desired to wipe out the Canim "scourge" and their slave allies.
Now Tavi must find a way to overcome centuries-old animosities if an alliance is to be forged, and he must lead his Legion in defiance of the law, against friend and foe - or none will have a chance of survival...
