Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments The alternates:
Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location .
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

Monica (nutz4reading) HI Belinda! Have a good sleep. I live in Pennsylvania and work full time. I now live by myself. My son just recently moved out and my daughter is planning a wedding in October.

message 9: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments Hello ladies. I love playing this as well even though it usually adds alot more books to my TBR instead of taking away. lol

Nice to meet all of you! Any ideas on group names? All I can think of at the moment is:

Lucky 7
Double O'Seven
Sweet and Swifty Sevens

message 10: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Hi Jennifer!! I am terrible at thinking up names for teams. All yours are awesome. I like the Double O'Seven name.

I do add more books to my TBR pile. Some I find just by looking at the alternative choices and trying to find a book to read.

message 11: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments Righto!

Names:
7 wonders

Gah! I can't think....night shift brain! I do like double oh-7 too. Who will be our fearless leader? I can do duties if no one wants it

message 12: by Jane (new)

Jane | 976 comments I like 7wonders but Double O'seven is fine too. Looking at your profiles ( can't see yours Belinda) it looks like you are all from USA. I am from Denmark and I think, after trying the time converter, that I am 7 hours ahead of US central time.

message 13: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Belinda if you would like to be captain that is fine with me. I know I don't have time to be captain.

Monica (nutz4reading) Okay so I have a few questions:

How is everyone doing on their reads this week?

Are you guys competitive?

I will be posting my review today. Finished my book last night.

Also if we finish the books before Friday we earn a free pass.

Also I was on the winning team last round so I am competitive.

Monica (nutz4reading) Week 1 - Spot 12

Book: Love Story, With Murders (Fiona Griffiths, #2) by Harry Bingham Love Story, With Murders by Harry Bingham book #2 in Fiona Griffiths
Date Finished: 4/22/14
Rating: ***
Review: This is my first book by Harry Bingham and I was pleasantly surprised. I had never heard of the author of this book before winning this ARC.

This is the second book in the Fiona Griffiths series. I have not read the first one so not sure if that mattered. I still enjoyed the book. I now want to read the first and third books.

Fiona Griffiths is a cop in the UK. She is not your typical cop. Her adoptive father is a known criminal that has never been convicted. Fiona also has some problems with her mental state. I don't even know how to describe it.

There are two murders in this book that are connected but not by being committed by the same people. They are connected by Love. Fiona has her way of investigating which isn't always above the law. Her life is also put in jeopardy twice. She is left for dead in the freezing cold and the way she survives is interesting.

Fiona is also trying to figure out who she is. She starts investigating into her father's past and trying to find out why she was left in the back of her father's car one day during church. She feels that her father knows who her parents are and that there is a reason why he is her father. That is the part that really has me interested in the series.

Review:

The Hollows #8
This is the book I have liked the least of this series till now. Rachel has been shunned by the witch community and now the witch council wants to put her in witch-jail for using black magic.
I think what I don't like about this is that it is political. The main witches of the council wants to control Rachel and use her for their own agenda and they don't care who they have to sacrifice to do that. I like the plain good versus bad fight better.

I will continue this series and hope it turns back to Rachel fighting the bad guys with the help of her friends and others whose help she doesn't really want.

Belinda | 461 comments Week 1: space 12 - Small Shen by Kylie Chan
Finished: 23/4/14
Stars: 4

Review:
This was a great standalone interlude between series books. With a spattering of manga at the start of chapters it added a little more to the story. It was great to go back to a time before Emma arrived and see how the characters met and their relationships grew.

message 39: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments Lol! Monica, you cracked me! Competitive much?!?!

message 40: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Belinda glad to make you laugh. Last round was the first time I was on a winning team. The captain of the team last round is captain again this round for team number 1. I have been watching their thread just to see how competitive they are. Anxiously awaiting for Friday and being able to see what we roll.

message 41: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments I love rolling! The anticipation of what number will come up is so much fun. Not long till roll two.....

message 42: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I am sure it is fun to roll. I am already trying to figure out which books will fit into the possible rolls. Are all our reviews in?

JenniferJ | 381 comments Week 1: space 12
Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron by Jon Skovron
Finished: 4/22/14
Stars: 4

Review:
Started out a bit slow but once the story kicked off it was hard to put down. Was interesting reading about the son of Frankenstein and the daughters of Jekyll and Hyde and so many general characters that were thrown into the mix.

Boy, Frankenstein's son was like a genius and computer nerd and he unleashed a virus that did some serious havoc. Though it was hilarious for me to read what all Vi, the virus did I am certainly sure it was not such fun for Boy. LOL

message 44: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments All week one reviews are in. You can find them organised in this post above

Review:

Recipes with Romance #1
This was okay. Very predictable and apart from a not very nice mother-in-law to be, all characters were nice. A lot of chocolate is being eaten all through the book. It is full of recipes that I don't think I'll try. I am not going to read more in this series unless they are free.
