Sounds like you need the Spring Cleaning Challenge at Nothing But Reading Challenges, lol.

This is the first season where I'm actually sticking to it and reading the books that have been collecting dust the longest. I was on a roll a couple weeks ago and knocked out about 5.

I have a serious book problem.

Your weekend sounds really nice and relaxing.

Sheila (sheilaj) Wow Jennifer - a trip to Vegas next weekend. Lucky you. I would love to go and see some of the shows. I live in what is promoted as the riverboat gambling capitol of the world so gambling holds no appeal though.

Sheila (sheilaj) I updated my post 134. Only a 3 star book this week :(

Last night my son and 2 grandsons came over and brought me a hanging basket of purple flowers (my favorite color) and the shepherds crook thingy to hang it on for Mother's Day - beautiful. I hope to talk to my daughter in Virginia today than my mother's day will be complete.

Finally beautiful weather in the Midwest. I even got my first sunburn of the season at the ballpark yesterday. I don't do sun generally because I burn so easily but it was a surprise to see it!

I hope you all are having a good weekend.

Lisa I just finished a Dear America book, I dont know if that counts as a "D" or not. I can still read Doon if I need too. Just let me know. Journal of Douglas Allen Deeds The Donner Party Expedition, 1846 (My Name Is America) by Rodman Philbrick

message 158: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Lisa, to me your book started with J I believe the title has to start with D not the series. Plus it looks like the series name is (My Name Is America). You better read Doon.

It does look like an interesting series though.

I don't gamble either. I moved to a small town in Arizona after spending most of my life in a big city in Florida....Vegas is 4 hours away so we go a couple times a year just to get away. We like to people watch and sometimes do shows....and lounge by the pools.

The two authors that wrote this novel are attending a Teen Author Fest at the library where I work. The book is very creative and fun to read. Its a fantasy book that begins in Scotland and they are transported to a magical world called Doon.

Week 5 / Spot 44 - A Room Full of Bones (Ruth Galloway #4) by Elly Griffiths A Room Full of Bones by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #4)
Finished 5/18 - Rated ★★★★★

I am absolutely loving this series starring Ruth Galloway who is a 40 something, kind of grumpy forensic archeologist. In this book she is called in to authenticate the bones of Bishop Augustine who have just been discovered near Norfolk, England. Surprise, surprise Bishop Augustine is female! Bad things keep happening around her and the museum that is claiming the new find. Could it be the curse that is carved into the coffin or something more of today's making? Great series. I just came across this series about 6 weeks ago and have already read 5 of the books and can't wait to read number 6.

Review:
When Phoebe Sparks' father died with no sons, as the eldest daughter she inherited his vote. But Phoebe is a widow, she is unable to cast the vote, but may pass it onto her husband for use until his death. Since Phoebe outlived her husband, her father's vote reverted to her. With a heated upcoming election covering Lively St. Lemeston, the election agents are doing all they can to encourage Phoebe to marry so they can get the extra vote for their candidate. Phoebe is stunned when the "Pink & White" (Tories) agent not only knows her preference for tea but has selected potential husbands for her as well. Phoebe tells the agent she is unequivocally uninterested in remarrying and asks him to leave. Meanwhile, Lady Tassell insists her son, wounded war veteran, Nick Dymond to help his brother win the election for the "Orange & Purple" (Whigs). When Nick balks he is informed that his income is cut off immediately if he does not take on this task. With no skills and no prospects Nick travels to Lively St. Lemeston to meet the widow Sparks and confirm the potential husband that has been arranged. After mistaking Phoebe for a maid, Nick spends a pleasant afternoon working with Phoebe and although she declines to marry, Phoebe's interest in Nick has her agreeing to attend a dinner gathering later in the week. When Phoebe goes to talk with Helen, her younger sister, Helen confesses she is in the family way, cannot marry the father and has been thrown out of the family home by her mother. Phoebe reconsiders selling herself and her vote into marriage as she decides that care for her sister and her sister's unborn child is part of the bargain.
The secondary characters and storyline flow nicely through this well paced read. Multiple HEA's and steamy sex scenes in addition to a nice wrap to all the storylines made this an entertaining read. This fun, well constructed, and easy to get into novel is a perfect anywhere read.

Review:
In the small village of Finch, Peggy Kitchen is up in arms when an archaeologist sets up shop in the village's empty schoolhouse where she had planned to host the upcoming Harvest Festival. The archaeologist is there due to some Roman artifacts found in the area. However, the vicar tells Lori, our heroine, that he found an old pamphlet whose author claims to have buried the artifacts there as a hoax. This would ensure that the archaeologist leaves town in time for the Harvest Festival to go off without a hitch, but someone has stolen the pamphlet. The vicar asks Lori to try to track down another copy of the pamphlet, but of course Lori is more interested in discovering the identity of the burglar.

This was a nice mystery because I didn't have any clue who the culprit was, so it kept me guessing and held my interest. I've been reading these books out of order, so it was nice to see Lori as a new mom with her newborn twins here. Dimity wasn't in this book as much as I would have liked, but I still enjoyed it.

Review: I liked this book, but I didn't love it. There is a lot of Luce jumping through the past trying to figure out a way to save her and Daniel's relationship from the curse. I thought it wasn't as exciting as some of the other books, and maybe stretched on a little longer than it should have. The end was the most interesting part, and I'll be reading book 3.5 and book 4 so that I can finish out the series, though I like the Silence series by Becca Fitzpatrick much more (they're similar).

Finished 5/24
Rated: ★★★★

New series by a favorite author. Jack Morgan is the creator of an exclusive detective agency. He and his team have several different cases in play. One involving the abduction and murder of young girls. One where NFL game scores are being tampered with so big money is being wagered and won. The primary thorn in Jack's side appears to be his identical twin brother. This was a fun, fast read with lots of action. I always enjoy the books where Maxine Paetro teams up with James Patterson. She is probably my favorite of all his co-writing minions.

Review:
Werewolf pack alpha Callum became (now) 15 year old Bryn's guardian when she was 4 years old, after her parents were killed by a rogue wolf. Though Callum is Bryn's legal guardian, responsibility for Bryn lies with Ali, a human female now mated to a pack member. Callum has cautioned Bryn that a hazardous situation requires Bryn to have bodyguards, follow curfew and avoid certain areas for a time and Bryn promises to follow those dictates. That doesn't stop her from trying to find out exactly what and where the situation is that's being kept from her. Bryn lies and schemes to gain entry where she finds an almost feral, caged, newly tuned, teen werewolf, Chase Worthington.

I liked like some of the secondary characters, and found them fleshed enough in this origin story to continue or eliminate the character. Another plus was the world building and the accessibility of the characters in the world. Unfortunately, there was more than a passing similarity in Bryn's character and another popular YA series teen-aged heroine. I also wasn't a fan of the pacing, it moved extremely slow for the first 20-25% and I thought of DNF'ing it. But as the story progressed, the pacing and my enjoyment increased. The dangling threads were intriguing enough to make fans of this installment put the next edition on auto-buy.

Review: I thought this was a different book when I picked it up, but I am very pleased for the mix-up. This is the first in the Ophelia and Abby series, which is a cozy mystery with paranormal elements. I thought the characters were pretty interesting. I really liked Darci, I thought she was a really good secondary character. The plot one was pretty well too. I did guess the "bad guy" but not for sure until 3/4 of the way through. Overall, I really liked the book, and will be reading the rest of the series.

Review:
Lori is leading a pretty miserable existence when she receives notice that Dimity Westwood has died. Until now, Lori had only known "Aunt Dimity" as a character in the bedtime stories her mother used to tell her. Now she is tasked with going to Dimity's cottage in England and reading the letters that Dimity and Lori's mother had sent each other through the years in order to write an introduction to "Lori's Stories", Dimity's compilation of "Aunt Dimity" stories that will soon be published. Once Lori and Bill, one of her attorneys, arrive at the cottage, they discover that Dimity's spirit is still in the cottage. She's lingering around because of some tragic event that she won't disclose. Lori's mother left her a letter asking her to find out what tragic event happened in Dimity's life, so Lori is delving into Dimity's past to discover the truth while learning more about Dimity and her mother through reading their letters.

I've been reading these books out of order, so it was nice to finally read book #1. I didn't like Lori at first because she was so mean to Bill and so snooty when she didn't have anything to be snooty about. But she gets a little better near the end of the book. I like Bill, Willis Sr., and Dimity, so that's why I keep reading these books. This entry wasn't spectacular, but it was interesting enough to keep me reading.

When former child star Collin Cox and his high school friends play at being hypnotized all are shocked when another persona is revealed. Not just any persona, but a serial killer from 50 years ago that was suspected in multiple murders during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. There is another killer at work now. Is it possible that the killer that has been dead for 50 years is using Collin to continue his rampage?

Great book and I sure didn't see the end coming. I highly recommend this book if you like edge of your seat suspense.

Review:
I watched this show for three whole seasons wanting to find out who the mysterious A was who knew all of the pretty little liars' secrets. Was it Ali? Is it her ghost? Is she back from the dead? Was she never dead? Or did she share all the secrets with someone else who just has it out for Emily, Spencer, Aria and Hanna? Well I finally stopped watching the show because they would never tell who A was, and this book is just the same! Ugh! Why read it if they never reveal A's identity? That's just 200+ pages of a tease! It was interesting reading about the different lives of the main characters, but the ending just wasn't really an ending, it just stopped. I am not satisfied.
