Read: Pompeii by Robert Harris
Date: 5/14/2014
Review: This book was ok, I gave it three stars. It went into a lot of detail about Aquaducts and Roman engineering in the beginning of the book that bored me, but once they started talking about the people is when it began to interest me. Meh.

This would have been a really great, extremely compelling series if there had been less whining, relationship stuff and more of the political intrigue. Overall, I found the series enjoyable and this final book was almost exactly what I wanted. I think that America was only half the character that I really wanted her to be. If she could have just been stronger in her relationship decisions, like she was in her political decisions, then she would have 100% won me over. She was so sure of herself when it came to speaking out and making moves, but when it came to Maxon and Aspen, she waffled so much I wanted to smack her most of the time.
And the boys…both of them should have just told her to shut up and spoken their mind. It would have made all of their lives easier. Then we could have focused on the rebels and the uprising. Those pieces of this book were so great and intriguing all I wanted was more. The ending was too quick, but it was pretty epic and awesome with how everything played out. I would love to see more of how things progress after those final events…not in the relationship aspects really, but in the political world.
This was an extremely interesting idea and for the most part it was handle really great. I would have loved for the two sides of the story to be better integrated together and more equal in presence. If that had been the case, this would have been more than a typical YA book. This series will definitely be one of my top YA series though even though America annoyed me at times with her selfishness and whining. I still understood her and I loved the concept.

I'll be reading
by Jill Shalvis (Lucky Harbor, Book 9) OR
by Julie Kagawa and (Blood of Eden, Book 3)
Alternative Yellow:
by Lisa Henry OR
by Amy Lane (Johnnies, Book 3)

Review:
Max is the psychiatrist we have met in previous books. He meets Aiden at the coffee shop and finds a boy of his own. Theirs is a variation on Dom / sub relationships explored in the previous books. The sex is very hot but these two just seemed way too self aware. Aiden seemed both younger and older than the 26 he was supposed to be. Book 1 is still my favorite so far although this was better than book 2

It had been almost 2 years since I last read one of the books in the Unbound series and I forgot how much I loved this series. The world that Rachel Vincent has created is interesting and scary. The division between the Skilled and the Unskilled, the Tower mafia and the Cavasos mafia are just the background pieces of this world. It is really the main characters in each of these books that ties everything together and really makes the reader see the levels of danger that are a part of their everyday lives.
I really liked Kori and Kenley Daniels, who we met in previous books. We met their brother Kris too, but we really didn’t see him until Oath Bound. Whenever I thought I understood Kris, we learned something new about him and he quickly became my favorite of the Daniels siblings. Sera was incredible. Her story was so sad, but instead of wallowing in her grief she used it to motivate her. I loved her instantly and I loved the way she interacted with Kris. They had the best banter and antagonistic relationship and then while keeping that, they developed into something more.
Since this is the last book in the series, I love that Rachel Vincent brought back characters from previous books, like Cam and Liv. I loved seeing Kris’ sisters and their significant others and their grandmother, who is a hoot. I am actually sad this is over, but I love the way it ended. I love that they all have plans for the future, but that things were at least partially wrapped up (I can’t say more since that’d be a major spoiler). This was another great series by Rachel and I look forward to reading more by her in the future.

Book: The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa (Blood of Eden, Book 3)
Read: 5/16/14
Rating &Review: 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the conclusion of this one. It was kind of predictable though.
Kanin, Jackal and Allie set out on the quest to find and stop Sarren...and possible find the cure to rabidism in Eden. So 70% of this book was the "let's find evil Sarren" tour. But Jackal once again played scene stealer. He is funny in this twisted (don't know if you are evil or good) way. I enjoyed it but I am glad this series is over. I don't know how much more I could take. Some of these "trilogies" could have been wrapped up in 2 books.

Rating & Review: I read the first two books out of this series awhile I ago and I don't remember being that impressed by them. The third and final book in the series was about the same. This whole series just seemed like a really bad copy cat of the Rachel Morgan series and I really had wished it was a lot better than it was. Maybe that's why there were only 3 books. ***

Great roll, not what I was hoping for though, LOL!
I will read either
(Men of Honor, Book 5) by S.E. Jakes (222 pages per GR) OR
(PsyCop, Book 4) by Jordan Castillo Price (169 pages per GR)

Book: Bound for Keeps (Men of Honor, Book 5) by S.E. Jakes (222 pages per GR)
Read: May 19
Rating & Review: 3.5 stars. More of the same.
Shane was running for his life and ended up passed out on the doorstep of Keith & Reed, a couple who just lost their 3rd. It almost seems like fate. But what is Shane running from?
Its the same kind of formula from book 2 but not as good. Its still Smutty and I'm still enjoying it. The story is still weak but the book was driven by the 3 men's connection

Is there another similar series to Men of Honor?

I really liked BDB#4, and I agree, I just wanted Vishous and Butch to kiss already! I loved their camaraderie in the previous books. It's always been one of my favorite parts, that these guys took Butch in.

Book: Lover Revealed
Read: 5/19/14
Rating & Review: 4 stars. It's been awhile since I've entered the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. After dealing with Zsadist's terrible past in the previous one I was glad this was a little easier. We know Butch's past isn't pleasant and the first part of this book is tough as he doesn't feel he belongs anywhere. Marissa's character is a little harder to warm up to, but we gradually realize she also feels out of place. There is a lot more here than just their romance, (view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review: I liked this book but the first half of the story was kinda slow. I kept wondering why she was getting so friendly with his family knowing what her mission was. All the characters in the story seemed to be filler, but I did enjoy the last half. I'm interested in seeing how the rest of series develops :)

This used to be a must buy series for me. I found the world to be so interesting and the characters were endearing. I was probably one of the few people who didn’t have a fit about the David/Deven betrayal in book 2 because I kind of got it. I’ve continually given the series a solid 4 stars, but I haven’t been as eager to read it as I once was. The reason that the series keeps getting 4 stars is because Dianne Sylvan doesn’t hold any punches. While parts of each book hold the story back, there is always something major that elevates the book up from 3 star status.
The first part of the book really dragged for me and I found myself wanting to skim. The world has changed so much since the first two books and has gotten almost a little too complicated to follow with all the different characters, factions, etc. The characters are what keep me coming back, but at times I wonder why. I often don’t understand their motivations or what they’re thinking. Throughout this book, I still had that same problem, plus everything moved so slowly. There was action, but it all seemed a lot alike.
As she did in the previous books, Dianne made a big move, one that in the past had made me forget all about my problems with the book. This time, the big, sad moment that sort of takes you by surprise, wasn’t that surprising. There were a lot of signs pointing to what was going to happen and while I applaud her ability to kill off important characters, as she has done the majority of this series, I had a difficult time seeing this death as anything more than a way to get the character out of the way. For the majority of the series I’ve felt like this character has gotten the short end of the stick, yet they are one of my favorites. I’m glad that this character at least got some kind of happiness before their demise.
And then of course, to save the life of the dead characters loved one, they had to give that love one a new consort and of course it was someone that the loved one was already attracted to. The way Dianne worked it out, made me feel even more like this all was a convenient excuse to give the loved one someone else to bone. This whole situation bothered me more than the David/Deven betrayal ever could have.
Now that the series is going to be self-published, I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue reading it. I no longer feel like I can buy the series and if I can’t get it from my library, I don’t think I’ll bother. I don’t care about the characters or the story like I used to. Which is sad, but totally happens. I respect what Dianne Sylvan has done and I hope that eventually someday I can finish the series and find out what happens to the Circle, but I won’t be going out of my way to make it happen anymore.
