He smiled sweetly and replied, "I'm not doing much. I have time." Then he began towards the door. "After you."

"Why thank you?" She giggled and held open the door for Jasper.

Jasper smiled softly as he followed her out the door. He wondered what he'd do next. At the moment he didn't have a plan for anything except keeping her safe and even that wasn't much of a plan.

"So what do you like to get?" Bethany asked Jasper as they walked in. She immediately ordered a small mocha latte.

Jasper looked at the menu as if to study it's contents and replied, "Just a medium coffee, black." He never liked anything in his coffee. Looking around he wondered if he'd been here before.

"Someone's feeling brave!" Bethany cracked a smile and toon a sip of her drink after paying for it. "

Jasper took his cup and allowed it to cool off a bit. Since it was black it was very hot. He hated waiting for the drink to cool down, but after it did, he took a few sips from it. "So tell me about the city."

"Umm,well it certainly is big!" Ahe laughed. "There are a lot of places like these, cafes,little coffe shops, you name it. Lots of empty space in the middle of town, which i personally like. It makes it feel not as cramped you know? There is also the stores! In most places, the store would have its own building or a strip mall, right? Well around here, they take old hotels and renovate them into multiple stores! Like macys on floor, dillards on another..." She rambled off a long list of brands. "Im talking too much, arent i? Youre such an angel for actually staying!" Bethany laughed nervously.

Jasper smiled and laughed, "No, I like listening. It's good information." Jasper couldn't help but stare at her. She was so beautiful and charming. The thought lingered before Jasper expelled it away. He couldn't think of her that way, it wasn't right. Leaning on his elbow, Jasper began to think about the future and his next few moves.

Bethany smiled. "O-okay," she stuttered. He smile he gave her faught her offguard and she felt her heart beating fast. 'What is with me!?' She thought.

As Jasper sipped his coffee he asked, "Are you okay? You seem a little nervous." Jasper didn't want to be rude, but her nervous vibe was throwing him off a bit. He couldn't exactly place the feeling, but it was one he never really felt...or knew personally.

"I'm fine!" She answered quickly. "Seriously, I'm good!" She gave him a small smile to show she was okay. 'Is it really that obvious? Great, now he probably knows how I'm feeling...' She thought to herself, sighing mentally.

Jasper knew that something was off, but he couldn't place his finger on it. nerves, awkwardness, attraction. Jasper wanted to eliminate the last one, but something told him it was the one he was looking for. Smiling gently he replied, "Okay."

Bethany took a sip of her coffee to avoid saying anything. 'What would I even say? I don't know him that well and I can't just be like tell me,what are you like? or ask him a bazillion questions!' She thought to herself.

Jasper knew that she was contemplating something, but what exactly? He was never real good with women. As he sipped at his coffee, he got up saying, "I should get going. It's getting late. Can I walk you to your apartment?"

"Sure!" She answered, standing up as well. She smiled slightly and followed him out the door.

Jasper walked with her and enjoyed the day, but something felt off. He could feel the dark energy lurking and moving in the shadows. To the average person he was normal, but he was allowing his aura to expand. He hoped to scare the creatures away.

Bethany shivered, even though summer was just around the corner. This feeling came over her and she didn't know how to respond. It wasn't something she had ever felt before, and she was nervous.

Jasper's eyes darted back and forth as the shadows refused to back down. He turned to Bethany and smiled, "This is my stop. I'd love to walk you further, but I have so much work. Maybe another time." Without waiting for a response, Jasper moved towards an apartment building. Once out of sight he transformed and began hunting any abnormal creatures that were following Bethany.

"Yeah, that's okay! See ya around!" She wpsaid, pretty sure that he didn't hear the last part because he was already out of sight. She went up to her apartment, unlocked the door, and walked in, sinking into her couch. Even after the coffee, she was exhausted.

Jasper spent the rest of the night hunting and keeping up with his duties as the only protector of the area. At the moment he could handle the threats, but he worried about the future. Sooner or later he'd have to get Bethany involved. Even if she didn't want to fight, he needed her. Much like her father, Jasper needs to make a pact with Bethany to release his full potential.

Bethany eventually fell asleep, too tired to even move to the couch.

Jasper didn't sleep that night. It was true he didn't need much sleep, but now that his contractor was dead, he was running on fumes. Exhausted and just mentally dead, Jasper fell asleep in the alley next to Bethany's building. As he slept a familiar voice whispered, "You're slipping." Jasper jerked awake at the sound and immediately rushed up to Bethany's apartment. Pushing the door open, Jasper found it empty with a familiar yet ominous aura lingering.

Bethany heard someone barge through her front door from the next door neighbor's apartment. She stiffened, and slowly turned to her door. She saw it was open and quietly slipped inside. Her heart pounding in her chest, she flipped on the switch, almost losing her balance as she was reaching for it.

Jasper was examining the remnants of the room, already knowing who it was. Yasik. A demon that was created from the mating of a fallen angel and a human. He was very dangerous and almost killed Jasper on several occasions. As he bent down to look at the broken shards of glass, Jasper hoped Bethany was safe.

After searching her bedroom and saw nothing was touched, she relaxed again, but when she saw a figure crouched in her living room, she froze. She looked around silently, trying to find anything to use as a weapon, but nothing was found. She flipped on the switch and decided to talk to the person in her house. "Wh-what do you want?" She asked, trying to sound confident, but failing miserably.

Jasper hearing Bethany's voice perked up. "Bethany? It's me Jasper. I heard about the break in and wanted to check to see if you were safe," he lied. Jasper was relieved as he moved closer to the girl. He was still weary of the possibility of Yasik being close.

"How did you know about it? I didn't until a couple seconds ago," she said, exhaling a sigh of relief as she plopped down on the sofa, relaxed because she knew it was just Jasper here.

Jasper found himself in a corner but stayed calm. "Truth is I was taking a walk this way to get something from that cafe. I really like that place. When I passed I heard something and the light in your apartment flicked on." Jasper tried to come up with something better, but that was the best he could manage at the moment.

"Oh," was all Bethany could say. The story made complete sense in her mind. She felt embarrassed for sounding wary of him.

Jasper smiled in relief that she bought the lie. As he moved towards her an uneasy feeling came over him. He looked around and reached for a knife that he always carried with him. Suddenly, Yasik appeared as a cop. Jasper grit his teeth. He couldn't reveal himself to Bethany yet, but here was Yasik. What was he going to do? As he eyed Yasik, Jasper knew that both of them were there for Bethany.

When Bethany saw the police officer, she hopped up off the couch to walk to him. When she was close enough, she began to tell him what she thought had happened.

Jasper kept his guard up as he joined Bethany's side. She was so oblivious to everything. Jasper eyed Yasik as Bethany tried to explain what happened. As Yasik played the part of the police officer, Jasper got more irritated at the fact.

"So that's pretty much what happened," Bethany said as she finished up her story. "Just now Jasper came to check to see if I was okay," she added to explain why he was here.

[Aimee]

Yasik nodded and took notes like any other cop, but Jasper could feel the energy leaking off him. With his hand hovering over the knife, Jasper waited for Yasik to make the next move. If he took a step towards Bethany, Jasper would slice his hand off.

"So yeah! Do you have any leads on who it could've been?" She asked the cop, completely oblivious to Jasper's reaction from the cop being there.

[Aimee]

Yasik smiled politely to Bethany replying, "Not yet, but we'll get right on it. I'd like to take you down to the station to answer some questions. If you'd come to the car with me." Yasik motioned for Bethany to follow, but instead Jasper stepped in front.

"Officer," Jasper began with his knife in hand, "don't you think it's late. We should all take a rest from this crazy night."

"Jasper? What are you—" she began to say, but gasped when she saw the knife. "What the hell? Put it down!" She said, backing up. She saw how tightly he was gripping it, making his knuckles turn white. Was he angry? Or did he simply just intend to hurt somebody?

[Aimee]

Yasik used Bethany's surprise to his advantage. "Did you do this?" Yasik asked as he squared up to Jasper. Reaching for his gun, Yasik continued, "Miss, please back away. This man is obviously dangerous." Jasper realizing what was happening turned to Bethany to explain, but was hit hard by Yasik who grabbed Bethany's hand and pulled her down the stairs. Jasper got up weakly and followed, but his head was spinning and he couldn't keep up.

"Hey! Wait a second! The door is the other way! You go up stairs not downstairs, you idiot!" She yelled, forgetting she was talking to a police officer. "And what about Jasper?! You can't just leave him! What if the person comes back?!" She said, stumbling down the stairs after him.
