Jasper was standing silently at a distance. Where he was standing he could see the coffin being lowered into the ground. It was Allen, his good friend for years, together they purged the world of demons and foiled plots that would have ended with an Apocalypse. Despite all they've been through, Allen was still mortal. Being older, Allen was at a disadvantage, even so, Jasper couldn't believe that he was gone.
The service continued silently as the priest asked all those to say their last good-byes. As he stood there, he could see Allen's daughter. She was beautiful, but also heartbroken. Remembering Allen's last words, "Please, friend take care of her.", Jasper knew he'd have to reveal himself to her eventually...He just didn't know when.

Bethany walked up to the casket, crying. Her father was the only man who ever loved her. The only person period. Her mother was never home, she had no other family to rely on, and was too much of an outcast to be social. "I-I love you dad.... I'll never forget when we went to the park when I was younger and you got chased by geese," she started, smiling through her tears. She began listing off a bunch of memories before she went back to her seat in the crowd.

Jasper wasn't the emotional type. Also, no one really knew about him. He only knew Allen through "work". Standing there silently, Jasper waited for everyone to share stories about Allen and his quirks. They made him smile as he remembered those stories told by Allen. He had to say there were less people than he thought. Without looking around, Jasper knew that other hunters were paying their respects as well, but from the shadows.
After the service, Jasper watched Bethany closely. He knew that she'd be in danger now that Allen was gone. Fearing the demons lurking in the shadows, Jasper stayed on his toes.

There was rustling in the trees behind the funeral and a snarling demon sprinted forth silently, coming towards the funeral with uncanny speed. It grabbed the person closest to it, which happened to be Bethany, who was deep in thought. The only people who could see the demon were the hunters and lineage of. The demon grabbed her by her neck and held her out in front of it, her feet dangling in mid air, like some sort of prize.

Jasper kicked himself for not noticing the demon before it could get to Bethany. He quickly jumped towards it and with an outstretched hand, Jasper attempted to exorcise it. Before Jasper could touch it, the demon let got of Bethany and retreated knowing that if Jasper touched it, the demon would die. Jasper caught Bethany and held her close for a second, shielding her with his body. He feared that more demons were close. Keeping close, Jasper readied himself for a fight.

Jasper, deciding that they weren't safe unsheathed a large knife and held it out threateningly. He gave a warning glare to anything willing to look. Holding Bethany close, Jasper realized that they were alone. He lowered his weapon and relaxed a bit. Placing her gently on the ground, Jasper disappeared as quickly as he came. Unsure of how to approach the girl, he decided he'd just protect her from afar.

Jasper watched silently keeping his distance. Remembering his duty to his friend, Jasper stayed on watch. Although distant, Jasper could feel the presence of demons and their blood lust. The special blood lines of hunters are extremely tasty to demons and angels alike. The only major difference is angels have more self control.

"Allen left her in my care," Jasper replied casually before continuing, "sorry for your loss." She waved her hand dismissing the comment.
"We had a falling out a few years ago," She explained as she looked towards Bethany in the distance, "I just wanted to make sure she was safe. Knowing Allen, I knew she'd be in good hands." With a compassion only mothers could have she stated, "Take care of my daughter."
Jasper smiled and stated reassuringly, "On my life, I will ensure her safety and success." With that Angela disappeared into the distance. Jasper could hear the car driving away and wondered what happened between her and Allen that caused such a large tear in their relationship.

"Have fun last night, Bethany?" One of her co-workers laughed. "Shut up, Brent," she replied. Brent was the oversized class clown of the place. He always cracked unnessecary jokes about everyone. "Looks like you got a hickey!" He added, and snickered as he walked away. 'Do I?' She thought and looked in the mirror. 'I do..' She moaned internally before going back to work.

Jasper smiled excitedly, "Sounds great! I love coffee. Maybe after work you can show me around. Like I said, I'm new to this area, so getting to know the local shops would be great." He was lying, but being alive for a few decades made his lies undetectable. As he continued he hoped she dismissed the thought of him with wings.
