Third Read-a-Thon - Progress Post
Monday-Wednesday aren't good reading days for me but I read:
Midnight: 20 pages
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: 30 pages

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: 30 pages
I'm not doing so well, I've only read 306 pages over 2.5 days. And I haven't decided on a doorstop book so I think I'll revise it down to 1000 pages of whatever I feel like reading. I did finish Chess Story though.
306 pages is great, Jody! Don't sell yourself short. Sounds like you've got some great momentum going and the week isn't even half over yet.
Since monday I've read 300 pages in London and it's now finished. I've been really busy at work today and haven't had any time so for to read, but I'll probably do some reading tonight while my husband watches football.
Chess Story was well written, definitely a three star for that but it didn't do much for me to be honest.
I just finished The Importance of Being Earnest and quite liked it! I never thought I would laugh while reading a classic. The ending was a bit duller, but it is a rather good play!I only have House of Leaves to finish before being done with the 2015 challenge. But right now I want to start The Handmaid's Tale, I've waited long enough for it.
I read (well, listened to the audio) for The Importance of Being Earnest this year too, Sophie. I thought it was quite delightful. I have always read Oscar Wilde quotes and thought he was humorous but I had never read anything of his.

The Handmaid's Tale is a good choice! I really enjoyed that one. I also have House of Leaves to read this year still. So I'm looking forward to your thoughts!

Well, I'm not as far along in the book as I'd like to be but I'm certainly making a lot more progress with The Girl With All The Gifts. I love the characters! They're all so three-dimensional and unique, they have their own strengths and weaknesses and they each have their own flaws as well as their good points. I love books that do chapters from different POV too as I feel it gives me more insight into each character and their thought processes. Characters are important for me in zombie things, otherwise I find the sub-genre fairly dull and repetitive but with great characters and a new and unique concept for it, I can enjoy it a lot!
Because it's December I'm busy with my work and gift making. I can't read while doing those things so I'm listening to an audiobook instead! My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories
I finished To Kill a Mockingbird before I fell asleep last night. Loved it again :) Yesterday I was out and didn't have my kindle so I started yet another side read that is on my phone, 11/22/63. I don't know how I'm going to actually finish the challenge if I can't say no to side reads, lol. I keep getting books from the library that I've had on hold forever, but none of them are challenge books :/
I'm reading both Big Little Lies and Dan Brown's Inferno at the same time, because one is on my kindle and the other is a bulky hardcover.
I just finished reading Mouseheart by Lisa Fiedler!!
(336 pages). It's a kids book, but I LOVED it.PS- I'm so excited, I was able to finish this book in 3 days! For the past 4 months I have only been able to read 1 book per month...including a 200 pg. book; I just couldn't get into any of the books, even if I enjoyed them.
I read another 50 pages in Robert Louis Stevenson's In the South Seas. and the first 91 pages in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
My plan is to read all night long till 7AM (EST)! I'm currently half way through My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories.
It seems that I had the least time to read this week than in a long time... I did manage to finish Pippi Longstocking, which was really short... read like 8 more pages of my Buddhism book... good news is that I should have more time the rest of the week.
Emmy Lou Who wrote: "Ed, you must tell me how you like Their Eyes Were Watching God when you finish it."ok...I can tell you that half-way through...it's excellent.
I had to start a new book yesterday and behind all my favorite books I found Where Rainbows End. I bought it several years ago and I think I had actually forgotten and maybe even given up on this book, but I was in the mood for something light and easy. I read the first 105 pages last night and I've already been laughing and had tears in my eyes. Yes, I am a sucker for chick-lit!
Marina H wrote: "I had to start a new book yesterday and behind all my favorite books I found Where Rainbows End. I haven't read it myself, so I don't know what it's like, but the description sounded good and I thought it sounded like the kind of thing she'd very much enjoy. I can't wait to hear what your thoughts on it are, so I can determine if I made a good choice or not. It can be so difficult picking books for other people sometimes.
Finished The New Hunger (Warm Bodies prequel) and it was very pleasant (and short :p). Yes, I know it wasn't on my plan for the read-a-thon, ahem.
I'll continue the big ones, but I'm sure I'll finish none.

I've not read a WHOLE lot during this read-a-thon, but I have managed to finish The Hunger Games and am about 25% done with Catching Fire. Hopefully i'll be able to finish it and Mockingjay by the end of the read-a-thon. *fingers crossed*
I just finished "the metamorphosis" by Franz kafka. He is just brilliant. The story is a pitiful read. But definitely one of the best books I have read of late.
Man, I was trying so hard to finish My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories last night but it just didn't happen. I did get 183 pages in. And 10 pages read on The Delta Anomaly. Back to work tonight but I'm gonna try like mad to finish these.
I'm up to 444 pages in total now. (Funny, I have this weird thing where that number comes up all of the time in my life - I especially seem to see 4:44 on the clock). I haven't finished anything else in the past few days, but still working through A Clockwork Orange & Norwegian Wood for myself, and also reading some of Charlotte's Web every night to my daughter.
Getting ready to start my reading for the night (in between work).
I've read 328 pages for the read-a-thon so far which means (since I haven't started yet today) I'm averaging a little over 100 pages a day and I feel good about that! :)
I'm so proud of everyone for plugging away! Keep going! You're doing so great!

I guess I've read something like 600 pages so far (I read ebooks so not sure)... The second half of The Pocket Wife, all of To Kill a Mockingbird, and now I'm about 20% through 11/22/63. I didn't read much yesterday because I was sick and just wanted to lie down all day which is hard when you have a baby so we napped together :) For some reason I have it in my head that Friday is the last day of the read-a-thon but it's Sunday, right?
I'm hoping to finish a pile of 1/2 read books from the past month. Uglies
The Handmaid's Tale
The Tent
Wind/Pinball: Two Novels
And start, maybe finish The Old Man and the Sea A Christmas Carol
Today was a lot better reading day. My hold on The Color Purple finally came through to the library and I read 200 pages of it. I read 15 pages of The Spy Who Came In from the Cold before that - put it aside immediately when I realized my book was in. I wanted to read The Color Purple for so long now. Apparently it is best for my personality type. Well, I am loving it so far. I am a slow reader so 200 pages is a lot for one evening :)
just started reading Love & Misadventure almost half done. enjoying it this far! oh, it was actually gifted to me by a friend who thought i needed to read it at that particular time! :P better late than never!
Just finished Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston....and Emmy Lou..... it is excellent. Really one of the best books I've ever read. It seems so far ahead of its time (published in 1937). The characters are real people. It's a love story with so much else going on that it's not sappy. I don't think I will ever forget Janie, the main character. And I love it when a book can draw me into a world that I would never be able to experience otherwise. I will now be putting Hurston's other works on my TBR list.
I read another 87 pages in Where Rainbows End yesterday and 35 pages in Gathering Blue. I wanted to read more last night, but because of work today and a Christmas party tonight I had to try and sleep a bit early. In total I've read 528 pages since monday. I had hoped for more, but it's okay. I won't be doing much reading tonight at the party ;-) ;-P
Finished Big little lies, it was an easy read and will be starting an Ake Edwardson book for the weekend.
Thanks to the read-a-thon I fought tiredness to try and finish House of Leaves before completely falling asleep, and I succeeded! I'm happy I finished this book, but I need to sleep on it to be able to write a coherent review about it. For now, let's just say that it didn't delivered everything that I was expecting...
I was all over the place today.... I read about half of Oliver Twist, then 40 pages in C.S. Lewis' Til They Have Faces, the first 20 pages in John Updike's Rabbit Redux, and 20 pages in Yusuf Idris' Cheapest Nights.
We have all read so much this week considering we fit it in around work, chores and holiday preparations. So far this week.I have finished Canterbury Tales and How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age. I will be working on completing Confabulist this weekend. It started of great, now it has fallen into a treatise on magicians. I am hoping that that part ends very soon. One paragraph would have been good, two okay, but a chapter is just too much.
I'm up to 474 pages for the week. Now downsizing my goal again to 500 pages lol. I haven't really been in the mood for reading this week, but considering I'm way ahead of my yearly reading goal, I can let this slide. :)
Well, I managed to achieve my goal of finishing the book I was currently reading, 'The Girl With All The Gifts' (which was fantastic) and I'll be starting my next book tomorrow. I already have my next one picked out, I'll be reading 'Asking For It' (can't link it as I'm on my phone). I would start it tonight but I have my work Christmas do which I'm excited for but it means I have to accept that Christmas is coming a lot sooner than I'd like to admit!
I still haven't finish any book, but I'm progressing. I divided my reading into 5 books, and set small goals (pages) for every day of this week. so far I'm almost finishing Mostly Harmless and To Kill a Mockinbird.
I'm glad to hear you like The Girl with All the Gifts, Francesca, I'm looking forward to reading it next year!
Hello, hello, hello! I'm checking in to see how you're all hanging in there?
I'm at approximately 366 pages for the week! I finally finished My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories. It took me longer than it probably would have if I hadn't stopped between each story to rate and write a mini-review.
I'm nearly finished with The Delta Anomaly, probably less than an hour to go, but My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories put me in the holiday spirit so I've started a new book - The Gift by Cecelia Ahern. I'm hoping to blow through it tonight. Wish me luck! ;)

Finished The Color Purple, which was amazing, and Embers, less amazing but worthwhile. And now I only have one challenge book left, woohoo!I think I am around 500 pages for the week, hard to tell exactly because Embers was a converted PDF on the Kindle.
