I was wrong. This book is great. My sons and I are taking turns reading aloud and it's getting a bit hilarious with our southern accents and the story is really good. My sons and I haven't laughed like this for a while. We're getting used to the southern talk. :D Glad I didn't toss it. We've made a deal to finish it all together and work the questions. At least I'll be able to click this off my TBR list as 'read' and leave a review. :o)

message 4336: by Gopal (new)

Gopal (gopaliyer) | 482 comments Ter'e wrote: "Please explain what Rice Biryani is...........yum........just the name sounds delish. I would love to try Hindu style cooking."

Biryani is a popular Indian dish made using long grain basmati rice and different types of vegetables or meat. It is spicy with a wide array of flavors and amazingly good to eat.

The different types of popular biryani are:
1. Hyderabadi chicken biryani
2. Hyderabadi lamb biryani
3. Hyderabadi vegetable biryani

The secret to a good biryani is to marinate the veggie or meat and then cooking it together with the rice. It is a slow cooking process and a good biryani can take around 2-3 hours to cook perfectly

Yes, Jenni! 'Blue' is it's barely been near a flame!!!

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Jenni, blue is rarer than rare. Technically it should be 1 minute on each side on a very hot grill plate, seal the edges, rest and serve. The less you cook a good steak, the more tender it is. 8:D

For some reason Jenni, I thought you were in Brisbane or Queensland somewhere, but I see you are in Adelaide. We are also having one of those days where the weather is not sure what it wants to do, but at least it is warm! 8:D

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Janet wrote: "'Blue' is what I call a good vet bringing it back to life!"

My husband says i have to chase it around the plate....nothing wrong with a bit of exercise as you eat! 8:D

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments All rightie!!!!!!!
I love it that several of you eat your steaks "blue". I do too. When we go out for a good steak........such as Ruth's Chris, I make it clear that I am very picky about my steak. I always forewarn them........cuz I really hate sending it back, but I will.
I love a fast sear, ice cold center. Last nights steak was cooked to perfection. Like Christine, we do not eat alot of meat........we had one nice filet, about 2" thick, and there is still 1/3 of it left.
One thing I absolutely hate........is if we go to a friends house to eat and they are serving steak....I plead for them to let David cook mine. I cannot stand the feel of cooked meat in my mouth. UGH!!!!!
As for Hindu cooking.........I need a cookbook. I know I would love it. I used to watch Anthony Bourdain's shows and my mouth would just salivate.
