Oh wow, if it's already made then it doesn't sound so bad. If I may ask, does it taste like anything we make in the states? Some say octopus tastes a little like chicken, and I've tried it and it does. I'm interested to know what it might taste like?

message 3502: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 235 comments Difficult to compare it with anything. It has a meaty taste but it tends to be made with herbs so some tastes of rosemary - one of my favourite herbs - and it can be a bit peppery. They are all just a little different. If I had to compare, I'd say something like a herby beef.

Is there a sauce you can have with it that makes it taste a bit better? We have several sauces that we lightly use with our beefs and steaks over here sometimes and of course we love our gravies.

Bloody rosemary salami? *overwhelming nausea bringing me down...*

Kath Middleton | 235 comments No, you don't eat it with a sauce - with bread and butter, maybe, or as part of the Great Fry-up Breakfast.

Christine, man-up, dear! ;)

Hi

Yes I have tried black pudding, but just the sound of it as well as the taste.

Just the ingredients makes my blood vessels clog up !!

Yesterday was Madonna falling off the stage day..... or should that nearly lynched day. Still, she carried on like a seasoned performer!! Like everyone is saying I'm guessing some heads will roll!!

message 3510: by Heather (new)

Heather Burnside (goodreadscomheather_burnside) | 385 comments Black pudding is definitely an acquired taste. I'm from the same part of the world as Kath so I'm with her on this one. There were so many things I used to eat as a kid that I wouldn't dream of giving my kids now including lamb's hearts, kidneys and tripe. My best friend's dad used to buy kidneys specially when I used to stay at her house at the weekends back in the day because I was the only other person he knew who would eat them.
(I think I'll save you from an explanation of what tripe is.)

Gosh it was painful to watch, wasn't it? I know I shouldn't laugh but the headline in the Sun did make me smile, "The Fallen Madonna".

Oops sorry, I remember serving lambs hearts to my hubby in our first year of marriage. He nearly divorced me!

No, it was televised live, but I watched it on catch up this morning. In others fast forward all the crap, which I did. It was shocking the first time you see then you can't help thinking 'oh dear!' She really was yanked backwards. Question is why didn't they use velcro??! It could have been a lot worse, glad she's not seriously injured though. Typical Madonna, she's taken all the headlines albeit inadvertently - gotta be some talent in that!!

Good shot, Heather. *crawling far far away from this thread...*

Kath Middleton | 235 comments Hearts and kidneys - and tripe - are very healthy. Low fat. Slow-cooked heart is just tender muscle meat. Hmmm.

no thanks. give me edible, non-offal any day.

Hey folks! When possible, when posting links to books can you do the book title as well as the cover? When it's just a cover it's hard to click on to when using smartphone.

That is a very good point. Plus you can't really see the icon that big, I don't think?

I must admit tripe is something I've never enjoyed and I could never figure out what my parents liked about it. I find it bland but black pudding I find tasty. :)

I have yet to come across a piece of technology that is perfect, be it laptop, tablet, desktop and smartphone. It's not the phone, it's the limited, ridiculously under developed GR app!

Janet, you need to approach the GR CEO and get this dealt with.

Hhmmm - me thinks he, they are not going to be concerned with any trifle grievances I have! Bigger fish to fry and all that!!

message 3537: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments Janet, I'm sure it's not just your/our grievances. Other apps continually update, GR should get with the program, so to speak.
Things that the app can't do: edit or delete posts, add HTML (lol "Hotmail" from a different post still cracks me up) like book links and such.
I've found workarounds, but it would be nice if one didn't have to.

message 3538: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed Janet. The GR apps on iPhone and Android are rubbish! Boo!

message 3539: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Kirsten, how do you come up with those "holidays," for Pete's sake? As I looked at some of those sayings, I thought of one of my all-time favorite bumper stickers. It said, "WHERE are we going, and how did I get in this handbasket?"

I am gobsmacked that the apps are so limited. I feel terrible when I can't even perform a basic function as liking a review. It's pathetic. Much smaller companies manage updates. GR should really be on the ball.

P.S. Gobsmacked. Great word!

clootie dumpling is a fruit cake type thing that is boiled in a muslin cloth - it is soooooooooo yummy but I don't make it like my granny did she was the best

the app for GR sucks

smartphones are ok its the apps that go with them that are not so ok - they kinda try to rush too much into things
