Autumn (autumnmemory80) I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and from your picture, it appeared Tom had an especially good Christmas! I hope you all have a Happy New Year! If 2014 was a tough year, I want you to do something. Claim 2015. Say out loud, "2015 is going to be MY YEAR!" Say it to a friend. Just say it. I said it in early December 2013, because I had lost my grandfather and it was one of the toughest years I had ever had. I declared 2014, was going to be MY YEAR. So far, it has been the best year of my life since I was in college. Do it. God hears it, or whoever you believe in, the universe, whoever. That is my advice for a happy 2015. Claim it.

Hey everyone! Hope you're all keeping well. Been away at my parents' and they live in a 3g twilight zone. Impossible to get a phone signal and they have no Internet. It means switching off for a while which is no bad thing occasionally.

Happy New Year, Have a great 2015.

Lynn Renee | 1708 comments It has been a strange New Year's Eve here. Living right downtown, there are usually people going bar to bar screaming and yelling. This night has been so quiet you wouldn't even realize it was a holiday. Guess it might be due to the cold weather, negative wind chill temperatures tonight. And wouldn't you know, Otto had just decided he needs to go outside brrrrr.

Ty Patterson | 401 comments Kanye West has collaborated with some guy called Paul McCartney on his new album. Guess this McCartney's career will go places now.

message 2760: by Dawn (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments Yes Ty, I believe this Mr. McCartney was quoted as saying to Mr. West, "I'm so glad that we could Come Together but please, Don't Let Me Down. I have been on The Long and Winding Road searching for fame and just know that With a Little Help From My Friends, I can make it". And something about Hey Jude. I don't know, I guess he saw someone he knew. But anyway, I wish Mr. McCartney much luck with this collaboration.

message 2766: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 1708 comments Anyone who has gotten sick or have friends and family getting this flu that is going around, please take care of yourselves. Take precautions for the young, ill, and elderly. My Mother in Law passed away today from the flu, she has had Alzheimers for many years but was able to remember my grown children when they ran to her side. She was 79 years old, still young but with the Alzheimers she was not living her life like many that age are able to. This is the first time death from the flu has touched my family. It is an illness we tend to view as coming around every year but not seriously. I just want to say stay safe and healthy.

So sorry for your loss, Lynn. You.make a good point. While the nation lives in fear of Ebola, the flu will take 35,000 lives a year. We have had a couple of healthy teenagers in our area die this winter from the flu.

Ty Patterson | 401 comments Please check out my interview with best selling author, Dave Edlund, here: http://typatterson.com/?p=254

It's quite different to the normal author interviews.

Dave's Crossing Savage is a fab thriller, and as a science, engineering and political nut, it appealed to me on several levels.

Dave's not just a thriller writer, he's also holder of 97 U.S patents!!!!

Lynn

Yes you are right this bad virus has now made the front pages here in Jersey, as the worst to hit the island in 3-4 years.

I have struggled for nearly a month, it is made worse as I am a diabetic, it means the virus hits you 50% worse.

And I try to keep going, and both my neighbours, which I check up on are in their late 70's.

Life is tough sometimes !

message 2775: by Dawn (new)

Sorry to hear your bad news Lynn. There are a lot of flu viruses and colds going around in the UK too at the moment. My husband is in bed with a nasty virus. He has been running a temperature and has been off his food. When he went to the doctors today they told him his oxygen levels are low and he has had to double the dosage on his inhalers (for asthma). He is also on a course of steroids. I'm going to make sure he recuperates as he is one of those people that doesn't like taking time off work.

Sorry for your loss Lynn. They say even the flu shot this year is not helpful being less than 25% effective.

Autumn (autumnmemory80) So sorry for your loss, Lynn. My grandmother also died from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. We took care of her from day one until the day she died. I will always hold it near and dear to my heart that she did not know who people were when she died by name except for my mom, my dad, and me. I was never the favorite, but she never forgot me. It was one of those sicknesses where at times you had to laugh so you would not cry. Once again, I am so sorry to hear this sad news.

Heather Burnside (goodreadscomheather_burnside) | 385 comments The bad weather has now reached Manchester and it's snowing heavily. I'm glad I work from home but am sorry for anyone who has to travel in it. My hubby has set off for the 2 hour trip back to work even though I advised him against it as his asthma is still bad. I hope he will be OK. My daughter has a 15 minute walk to college and she always takes my old walking boots (which seem to have become a fashion statement) so I think she'll be fine. :)

Hi Sue. Toronto's a lovely city. I visited it many years ago and also went to Niagra Falls while I was over there, which was breathtaking. :)

No, I look after in the house, and work from home and my husband is in charge of outside which includes snow shoveling. Snow is great for Christmas, but after that, I am looking forward to the spring. Our 2 Labs Love the snow.

I work from home too. I hate going out in the snow because I always dread slipping. It looks lovely through the window though. I was planning to go to the shops tonight but I think I'll give it a miss until the weather improves.

Robin | 170 comments Right guys, time for a rant! So I came into college today as I had an exam. Left the house at 8 got there about half-past and after buying a coffee a guy walks in saying college is closing! So on the one hand, I was happy about not doing the exam, but I got up for no reason! On my annoyance scale I'd put this at about 5 but what really bugged me was the fact that it took me "THREE HOURS to get back home! After ringing numerous taxi companies who all said they didn't have anything available I had to get a bus.Again this is about 7 on my internal annoyance scale. Finally, there I was at the bus station thinking one more short bus ride! But NO!!! The bus I needed to get home wasn't running. So there was another round of phone calls to taxi companies. After finally getting a booking which I had to wait nearly an hour for I finally got home! Apologies for the rant guys. Now I'm off to do some more revision!! *happy face*
