Saugata Mukherjee | 180 comments sixth gun vol 4 is a good news. But this volume only contains 6 issues, how are theuly going to make it a 370+ pages long book!!

message 102: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments It has six issues of the main series PLUS the spinoff series Sons of the Gun, which is 5 issues. So 11 total.

message 103: by Saugata (new)

Saugata Mukherjee | 180 comments okkk, now that makes sense.

message 104: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments Does anyone know if IDW reprints their hardcovers? The second TMNT book is out of stock and the prices are higher than I'm willing to pay. I'm referring to the new series, not the original.

Could place the order, but I doubt they'll get more in stock to fulfill the order. Canadian amazon marketplace sellers have it listed at high prices too.

Has anyone ever heard of Dynamite doing a Vol 2 to the Lone Ranger Definitive HC? I loved that story, not too long, and Vol. 1 has been lonely on my shelf for a long time.

I've not heard anything. Sadly after this much time my guess it we won't see a second volume. I have the three standard size HCs myself.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the Fatale DLX HC Editions. Thoughts?

That's my thinking. I wouldn't mind so much if the book didn't say "Vol. 1"

It's reminiscent of films teasing a sequel in end credits . . . and then it never happening. Young Boy me is still waiting for Mario Bros 2 . . . Adult me is happy I never had the opportunity to waste another 90 minutes on that garbage.

Donovan | 1154 comments The Fatale OHCs are amazing from Image. Own them both. Sewn binding, thick paper. Great editions. Only thing is a lot of the artwork isn't oversized, except for the art that goes to the page's edge. Don't really care though because the packaging is worth it. From IST the pair is under $50.

I thought Fatale was decent. The Velvet HC from Brubaker comes out today and I am hoping I like that better (I know I am going to like Epting's art).

They recently reprinted Brubaker's Marvel Daredevil omnibus vol 1 and the second is coming soon. Probably my second favorite work by Brubaker if you don't have that. I wasn't much of a Daredevil fan until I read the Bendis/Brubaker run.

message 115: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Phillips' art is and seems more purposefully rough to suit the pulp horror noir nature of the story, and is also Phillips at his cartooniest. The story itself rekindled my interest for horror. I'd say if you're on the fence you could check out the first trade, but the series is a slow burn with many revelations over its entirety.

Epting is equally talented, just quite a bit different. His style is more realistic. But nonetheless I'm excited to see this story (and read it) in the OHC treatment : )

That would be cool. I really want to see the rest of Cooke's Parker in the same type of format. I believe there is enough material for another similar volume.

I will be first in line for that too. Also, I would like to have this series continued, at least finishing the Donald Westlake stories.

My vote would be Brubaker on the writing (he wrote the introduction the Martini edition IIRC). Pretty sure he could nail it. Francavilla or Tim Sale could have a somewhat similar look on art.

message 126: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I'll read anything Brubaker does.

Hey IDW question for you fellas. March by John Lewis is available in three OHCs. You think there's any chance of an omnibus or is that unlikely from IDW?

Anything I say is just guessing... that said IDW does not do a lot in the realm of omnibus editions after bringing out HCs. My guess is there is not a big chance of a combined collection in the near future.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Are the oversized hardcovers of Book 2 and 3 out already?I have 1, but have been waiting to read it until the other 2 oversized hardcovers release and it seems like they were being staggered.

message 129: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Nope, only Book One is OHC so far. There's a slipcase paperback trilogy edition. Was just hoping for everything in one book : /

message 130: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments How's the quality on Book One by the way? Binding and paper especially.

message 131: by Nickviola (last edited Apr 09, 2017 01:36AM) (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments The OHC Book One is great. Its really big, close to the size of Remender's Black Science OHC (so taller than a normal deluxe). Its glued binding but most of the art is away from the gutter so you get no meaningful loss even though its a thin book it still opens ok. The paper is thick with texture, more like artist graph paper than the glossy Marvel omni paper, which suits the artwork and story obviously. Overall, pretty great product. That said, in case you arent familiar with it, its thin at about 125 pages.

I added a new photo of my collection that shows the size if you zoom in to the top right:
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

message 132: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Thanks, man. I incidentally found one at the library to check out. I've read books 1 and 2, just checking out my options for format so I can buy. Yeah it's pretty big, Amazon says 11.7". Glued binding like you say but really not bad for this book, not many splash pages or even full pages. Also, nice shelves ya got there! Helluva lot of Valiant.

message 133: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Donovan wrote: "Thanks, man....Also, nice shelves ya got there! Helluva lot of Valiant. "

Thanks, man. And, yes, I am completely unfamiliar with the DC universe (outside of general pop culture familiarity) so I dont buy any of it and I only like so much modern Marvel so Valiant has been a nice contained world of good story telling that gets put out in high quality, reasonably priced formats so for me its been really wonderful. I didn't love Rai or Shadowman, but otherwise I love the characters, the world, and (most surprisingly compared to the insufferable Marvel ones) the crossover events.

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Valiant has been peaking my interest, but I stray away just so I don't have yet another publisher to collect. Do you recommend anything?

For me of the past few years, I've been turning to image for great story telling. I really love that nearly every book is its own thing so no need to fee to pick up other books if you don't want . . . But of course I do because image has just been pumping out quality.

Now where should I look in Valiant?

message 135: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments Can't go wrong starting with X-O Manowar, Harbinger, Bloodshot, or Archer and Armstrong. All good options, but some of the deluxe hc's are out of print.

message 136: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I agree, if you are an X-men fan go with Harbinger, if you are more of an Iron Man or Thor guy try X-O Manowar.

Harbinger is collected so far in 3 deluxes (Vol 1, Harbinger Wars, Vol 2) and Manowar is also in 3 deluxes though I would recommend NOT getting the 3rd volume of it and instead getting Volumes 1 and 2, then Armor Hunters which is an excellent crossover that includes all of what is in Volume 3 plus lots of tie ins that help the overall story.

Valiant sometimes releases series volumes that are redundant with events, which some people consider double dipping, but for me I like it because it gives you the option of just buying the main stories or buying the crossover which includes the main story + extra.

Edit: looks like this wont include the recent Small World story, which already has its own single-issue ohc.

message 140: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Erik wrote: "Are Armor Hunters and Harbinger War DLX HC?"

Yes they are deluxe size Hardcovers. Harbinger Wars is standard Valiant thickness, Armor Hunters is actually pretty packed and has a bunch of great tie-ins. I think it's the thickest Valiant book.

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Sorry if this was mentioned but I'm a bit confused. Is the TMNT 'IDW collection' oversized reprints of the TMNT 'Ultimate Collection'? That's what I understand them to be, as well as reordered to be chronological. Can anyone clarify/confirm?

message 142: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments The ultimate collection is the old comics collected and reprinted the other is the new series ongoing by idw. I can not comment on the similarity because only read the current series

Sounds like they are smaller limited editions and come with a slip case. based on volume, you get a couple of art prints, is signed, different dust jacket than the deluxe.

That about right?

In short, nothing special enough to convert from DLX to Gunslinger ED

message 148: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Yep. One thing is there first one has the box but the rest have slipcase so they don't all match. While I like the series I don't have a desire for the extras included in it.
