PERFECT. Okay since you've read a variety of genres and types of books, could you please suggest me the top 10 books that come to your mind? Just in general. I am trying to diversify right now

Petra That's a tough question to answer, Oliver. Everyone's tastes vary so much.

Check out my Just Fun shelf (https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...). I found these fun reads and they are quite varied in genre.
From that list, you might enjoy:
Ready Player One
American Gods
The Monk (gothic fun)
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal
Bad Monkeys

Other favorites of mine are:
The Sparrow (and its sequel)
any of Bryce Courtenay's books set in Africa or Australia
A Prayer for Owen Meany

I don't know if any of these is of interest to you. It would help if you could narrow down the genres or types of books you enjoy.

Whitney (wbandel) If you browse the forums there is a game section with a reader questionnaire discussion. Two of the questions are top five favorite authors and top five favorite books. That might be a good way to browse through the large variety of interests from our collective group. I’ve definitely used it to see what others like to add to my to read list.

Oliver, I have a list, https://www.goodreads.com/review/list..., that is just some of the best books I have personally enjoyed. I have pretty eclectic tastes as well so you never know what you'll come across with me! lol

Kandace, I LOVE the Saga, Vol. 1 series!!

Rumell, people do have their own opinions and that is totally ok! That's what this group is all about!

I loved the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. There is about 14 of them --- a Wizard Detective, who could want more?! The first one is Storm Front.

message 408: by Mystic Orange (new)

Mystic Orange (Rumell) (rkrespectedmember) But I'd still rate it good for effort of the author.

message 416: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Tucker, I don't usually read non-fiction, but both of these really, really cracked me up. Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson and Dad Is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. I think because they are both weird and honest about it and so obviously love their children and spouses so there is nothing mean in the humor.

These sound like really fun books! I sometimes have to take a break from the dark and heavy books I often end up reading, like Pet Semetary which I am reading right now so that I can read something lighthearted and happy to lift my mood.

message 425: by Mystic Orange (new)

Mystic Orange (Rumell) (rkrespectedmember) I agree.

Mystic Orange (Rumell) (rkrespectedmember) Cold fire hot ice.

message 427: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I try to alternate between heavy and light reads, but it doesn't always work that way.

I think when I read too many books in one vein or another it often leads to a reading slump.

Have you considered audio books? I've started to use them and am finding them very enjoyable. My library offers a nice selection of books along with a great app (LIBBY). My one complaint is a couple of times I haven't enjoyed the actor reading the story. (Make Me: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child comes to mind, I was unable to finish the story (read by Dick Hill). I think the narrator can make or break an audio book.

A huge advantage for me is I can listen while doing other things that don't require my undivided attention.

Audio-books are fantastic!! I use my Library's service and an app called Scribd. It's $8 a month (so WAY cheaper than audible) and you don't have to pay any additional amounts for certain books. It may not have quite as many audio-books as Audible but it does have a pretty massive collection. I listen to audio-books constantly and, so far, I've only run across one book that was not available to listen to. Plus, you can read eBooks on there so you get that option as well. I would highly recommend it.

message 439: by Mystic Orange (new)

Mystic Orange (Rumell) (rkrespectedmember) I think i am going to make Irish jacket potatoes later on.

message 440: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I listen to audio books all the time, I use the library's Libby and Overdrive apps so they are completely free.

The reader can make all the difference to me, I've listened to a book I hated on the page, but fell in love with as an audio and that's down to the reader. I have a few go to readers that I will listen to no matter what they happen to be reading. You can search by reader on the Libby and Overdrive apps, so that's helpful.

message 441: by MoodyReader2.0 (new)

MoodyReader2.0 (zjeena) | 85 comments I agree, audio books can give a book a whole new vibe! There are a couple of books i could bot read on page, they were killer boring, then i tried the audiobook i really liked it
