Sarah Mankowski (sarahmankowski) | 246 comments Just wondering if anybody else is watching. What do you think? I have only seen the first episode so far.

Randy Harmelink | 931 comments I was impressed by the production quality of the first episode, but the story just didn't catch my interest...

I didn't really enjoy the book...

Visually, the series is impressive. The story is certainly grim. There is something about the pacing that is off-putting to me.

After watching the second episode I need to find something light and happy to watch.

Michael Conway | 33 comments Have they put up a second episode? I thought the rest of the first season was available on the 20th.

Yes, two are up. The page says the season will be available on Nov. 20.

Am I alone in heavily preferring Dick's short stories over his novels?

No.

Slate opines, "The Man in the High Castle" — It’s the second best show Amazon has ever made.
Which is faint praise.
"The show is yet another entrant in the fast-growing category of TV good enough to watch and enjoy, but not quite good enough to make specific time for. These shows are the TV equivalent of the microwave burrito: tasty, but best consumed in the absence of options."

In two days I'm going to have to decide whether to binge-watch TMitHC or "Jessica Jones" on Netflix. (Or I could just try to keep my DVR from overflowing.)

So much video, so little time.

I am constantly amused by people on NetFlix discussion groups whining about wanting a "Random" button.

I guess "too many choices" is a problem... :(

I'd say no, but I'm not a good judge. This is all I've ever read. My copy has this and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch,Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? & Ubik , but I read this first (on a GRer recommendation) and really REALLY didn't like it much. Kivrin | 542 comments Oh, good, I thought I was the only one who didn't like the book. My hubby just mentioned watching the show. I was thinking I'd give the book a second look to be sure I still didn't like it.

We had a Group Book Discussion of The Man in the High Castle a couple of years ago — unfortunately in the middle of the end of year holidays, so we didn't have many participants (and it's not exactly a Christmas story.)

Interesting (?) what they did with it. Took the basic characters, added a bunch of stuff. Lots of stuff: plotline in New York (because more Nazis are always good?), Expanded plotline in Canon City, added characters, more people to kill...

(I'm only halfway through. Been watching a lot of football.)

Sarah Mankowski (sarahmankowski) | 246 comments I've only seen the first two episodes. Didn't have a chance all weekend to get back to it. I think the "look" is the most impressive part, at least of what I've seen so far.

NPR's Fresh Air did a review of this last week, said it was the best show on video out now, includeing what's on cable and network tv

Michael | 152 comments I just watched the first episode and I have to admit, I wasn't enthralled. Not sure I'll watch any more.

I watched this series, thought it was interesting. A good effort, with some changes from the book, but nothing that made my head explode. The main difference is the Man in the High Castle is collecting film, not writing books, Which kind of reverses the role of The Grasshopper Lies Heavy, leaving its origin a complete mystery. It's not run out and tell the neighbors they have to watch it awesome, but good. Takes us to just about the same point in the book ends, with Tagomi.

Today:
‘The Man In The High Castle’ Renewed By Amazon For Season 2

What? Book is over. Now what?

I watched the first 2 episodes and enjoyed them. But I took another look at the book, and if the series goes in the same direction, I doubt I'll watch anymore.

Amazon has a teaser for Season 2 on its Youtube channel.

(Premier is set for Dec 16, just in time for Christmas.)

Mike (mikekeating) | 242 comments I got a kick out of the throwaway bit that Dragnet still exists in this world, but it's about Nazi cops and serves as Nazi propaganda.

message 22: by Gary (new)

Gary Gillen | 134 comments I read the book many, many years ago. I watched all of the first season and then reread the book. I liked both in different ways. I think that the characters in the book equally drove the message of the alternative history. I felt that the TV show focused too much on the Frank, Juliana, and Joe love triangle. I did like the addition of the conflicted SS officer John Smith. I want to see where they take the story in season two. It is a concern that the show runner, Frank Spotnitz, has left the show in the middle of filming. http://www.indiewire.com/2016/08/man-...
