For those reading in order: January 29- February 4, 2016.

Progress Post:
- What are you reading this week?
- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?

Stacy Progress Post:
- What are you reading?
Secondhand Souls
- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
First name. Never even considered the opposite. S is so easy, though...if my name started with an X, I'd probably feel differently :)
- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Didn't search. Figured that I'd eventually get to an S book, and I did. I loved the first book in the series so book 2 has been fun. Christopher Moore seems to be a love him or hate him author - the humor inhis books either amuses you or annoys you.

message 3: by EllenZReads (new)

EllenZReads | 172 comments - What are you reading this week?

Everything, Everything It actually came in at the library faster than expected and was a quick read--I finished it in a day. Lovely book and highly recommended!

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?

I used my first name.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?

No, I have so many books on my to-read list I am sure I could have found something else. This one was recommended by another Goodreads reviewer.

message 4: by Mandy (new)

Mandy | 29 comments What are you reading this week?
City of Heavenly Fire
City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6) by Cassandra Clare

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
My last name starts with C

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
I wanted to read this book, so this was the first suitable week to do so.

message 5: by Maple (new)

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments What are you reading this week?
I am reading two for this topic.
A: The Martian Chronicles
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

B: The Memory Keeper's Daughter
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards

Did you use your name, first name or surname?
I used my first name.

Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Not at all. If anything I had troubles narrowing down my choices. Thankfully I was able to move some books into other topics. So if my list looks pretty "M" heavy, that's why :D

message 6: by °~Amy~° (last edited Jan 14, 2016 02:20PM) (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) - What are you reading this week? Airs & Graces ( Jeffrey Cook, A. J. Downey)

- Did you use your name, first name or surname? First Name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? Not at all. One of my favorite authors had a new series that I hadn't read yet. This is the first book in that series. Someway, somehow I was going to get it onto the 2016 reading challenge and I did!

message 7: by Joy (new)

Joy | 100 comments - What are you reading this week?
A Walk in the Woods Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
Married surname (begins with W)

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
I thought I would at first, but soon I had more choices than I needed. Ultimately, I was down to three choices before I settled on this one. Here are the other two, both based on my first name.
The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende Jakob the Liar by Jurek Becker

message 8: by Valerie (last edited Jan 15, 2016 11:21AM) (new)

Valerie | 383 comments What are you reading this week? Phone Kitten I had no books in my TBR which started with V, and the only one I had in my TBR that began with P was Phone Kitten. Oh, well, it is a quick read, is engrossing, without much off-color talk, and it has 3.66 Goodreads stars. Oops, I used the wrong prompts, but answered them anyway. This book I got through BookBub for free. It looked like a nice, cozy mystery, so I downloaded it, with not thought that I would be using it on my 2016 challenge.

- Who is the author? Marika Christian

- Is there another author you could have chosen for this week? Marissa Meyer, except I am not certain she has any book titles that would fit the category.

message 9: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) | -7 comments * What are you reading this week?

This week I am reading Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton .

* Did you use your name, first name or surname?

I used my first name. I liked the symmetry of the authors first name starting with "E" as well ;)

* Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?

That's never an issue! I love Edith Wharton's House of Mirth and The Age of Innocence, though I understand Ethan Frome is a different read. Plus I'm knocking off a 1001 Book to Read Before I Die, which works for me - nearly reached 100.

message 10: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments What are you reading this week? Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy.
Did you use your name, first name or surname? My first name.
Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? Not really. I have about 1800 books on my TBR list, so there were always going to be a few starting with J!

message 11: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (pagelady) What are you reading this week? Jubilee's Journey
- Did you use your name, first name or surname? First name, Jenny
- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? No, I had this book downloaded already because of a discount on BookBub. I had been looking for an opportunity to read it. I thought it would be really good. Turns out, it was mediocre.

(It was a Christian fiction novel in disguise. I wish GoodReads and book sellers would mark these books as Christian fiction! Does anyone know a way to discern the difference when they are not identified?)

message 12: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Oh Jenny, I feel you! I hate nothing more than unexpectedly getting hit with the God stick when I read a book.

message 13: by Erika (new)

Erika - What are you reading this week? I just finished El Deafo by Cece Bell
- Did you use your name, first name or surname? My first name.
- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? Not at all, I had a bunch of E books kicking around and then I was at my library today and grabbed a stack of graphic novels and other books I had been eyeing and lo and behold, the first one I finished is an E :)

message 17: by Deb (new)

Deb | 372 comments What are you reading this week?
Danse Macabre, by Stephen King

Did you use your name , first name, or surname?
First name.

Did you have difficulty finding a book you were interested in?
No, I am working in a personal goal of reading through Stephen King's entire body of work in chronological order so I have tried to squeeze in a few SK books into the challenge categories. I've read the majority of his stuff already, but this is a new one for me.

message 18: by star_fire13 (new)

star_fire13 | 197 comments What are you reading this week?
This week I am reading Jackaby!

Did you use your name, first name or surname?
I used my first name. It didn't even occur to me to use my last name

Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Nope! This book has been on my to-read list for a long time, and when I saw it, I was like, "Perfect! Now I HAVE to read it sooner rather than later!"

I think this is the first week where I'm reading a book relatively on schedule haha

- What are you reading this week? A Prayer for Owen Meany

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
My first name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
My book group is reading this in March, so I've had it on my mind as a doorstop to tackle... and then I saw this week;s challenge and went ta-da! I'm sure if I tried I would find more- my week 6 book also starts with a P.

message 20: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Lindsey | 26 comments What are you reading this week? Mukiwa: A White Boy in Africa

Did you use your name, first name, or surname?
I used my first name.

Did you have difficulties?
Not at all -- I have well over 1000 books on my TBR pile, so it was just a matter of putting them in ABC order. I've had this one my shelf for a few years and was planning to read it as part of my around the world challenge, so it was a great fit for this week.

message 21: by Julia (last edited Mar 18, 2016 10:10PM) (new)

Julia (_mj_howard) Jacaranda Blue by Joy Dettman

- What are you reading this week?
"Jacaranda Blue" by Joy Dettman

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
Again didn't read in order but enjoyed this Australian story. And as I get called by my middle name of Julia, I chose this novel.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
This Author has been recommended to me before, so I chose her for that reason.

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) I read The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri because it starts with L for my first name. Just a coincidence that the audiobook became available for my drive to work and it matched the category for my next week. Still working on week 4 book and now I'll have a little more time because it's sooo long (990 pages)!

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 539 comments What are you reading this week? Sleeping Murder (Miss Marple, #13) by Agatha Christie by Agatha Christie

Did you use your name, first name or surname? I used my first name and last name. I didn't even realize that I had done that till I was answering this question! lol

Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? Not at all! It was easy to find an Agatha Christie book that I wanted to read for this week. I think this year might be the year of Agatha Christie novels for me. lol

message 24: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (myeerah) | 125 comments I'm ahead of schedule so I read this weeks book early. Still a week ahead so will read something else and jump back on schedule with week 6.

- What are you reading this week?
I read Carrie by Stephen King
- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
My first name, which is Crystal.
- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Sorta. I had 2 books already on my kindle that began with 'C' but wasn't ready to read either one yet, so decided to read Carrie, which I had been wanting to read for a while now.

message 27: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Brady | 69 comments - What are you reading this week?

The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?

I used my married surname.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?

No not really. I pretty much took my list of books that were high on my TBR or that were newly purchased and plugged them into the challenge. The Boys in the Boat fit perfectly for my last name.

message 28: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments - What are you reading this week?

Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?

First name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?

Quite a bit, actually (there were very few K titles on my TBR list). I ended up browsing my library's ebooks and stumbled upon this. It's actually really great, however, because I discovered a new author.

Barbara Pereira (babitix) | 983 comments Q: What are you reading this week?
A:
Vampire Academy
In Brazilian Portuguese the title is "O Beijo das Sombras", but this title was originally used on the 3rd book.

Q: Did you use your name, first name or surname?
A:
I used my first name, Bárbara.

Q: Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
A:
I had, because I couldn't find ANY book with the letter B. What is happening to this world??? Who is stealing the letter of my name???

So I took a look to my book and found this one.

message 30: by Beth (new)

Beth | 146 comments - What are you reading this week?
Between the World and Me

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
I used my first name. It didn't occur to me to use my surname. I would have used my full name (Elizabeth) if I had found something starting with that letter that I really wanted to read.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Not at all. I had this book on my list last year and never got around to it. I also had a few other ideas.

message 31: by Marta (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments I am reading Maus, I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History, based on my first name's initial.

There are plenty of titles starting with M, the trouble was coming up with one that I really wanted to read. This one fits the bill!

message 33: by Bana AZ (new)

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 836 comments I'm reading Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. 5 stars!

My first and last name have the same initial letter.

I didn't have a hard time 'cause A isn't exactly a rare letter like X, Y or Z.

No, A is a pretty easy letter and I've several books in my TBR starting with it. I wanted to read this book since some time, so I decided for it.

message 37: by Clara (new)

Clara (lostinmylibrary) What are you reading this week?
Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman
Did you use your name, first name or surname?
First name. Surname didn't even occur to me, though I don't think it would have been significantly easier.
Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
No, but I did have difficulties finding a book that was at the library. I had a list of about half a dozen books that started with C, and this was the only one that wasn't checked out already.

Erica | 555 comments What are you reading this week?

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? Actually I had more trouble than I expected. Oddly I didn't have any books on my TBR list that began with J so I was glad to be able to go to the A-Z list in this group and that's where I found this book.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

My first name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Not at all. At first I planned for this week with either Await Your Reply or Attachments. I decided for the last one because I wanted to read the Book of the Month as well, so that was fitting perfectly.

message 42: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 82 comments What are you reading this week?

I'm starting 2 books The Sugarless Plum by Zippora Karz and Four Past Midnight by Stephen King

- Did you use your name, first name or surname? By chance I'm using both! I didn't realize I also had a book starting with an F. I spent my time looking for one that started only with S.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? I have so many books, it was more just a decision of which one to read rather than finding one.

message 43: by J (last edited Feb 01, 2016 08:35PM) (new)

J Austill | 1116 comments -What are you reading this week?
Just finished We by Yevgeny Zamyatin.

-Did you use your name, first or surname?
I used my first name, though it isn't a name that anyone actually calls me (unless they're collecting bills or selling something)

-Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Yeah, surprisingly not a lot of books that begin with a W. I had this book listed for Week 50 (originally in a different language) and it could have easily fit week 48 (dystopian), but this week was a difficult one to fill, so I moved it.

message 44: by Katie (new)

Katie (katenumber8030) | 70 comments - What are you reading this week?
Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
First, since it's displayed here and it's hard to choose between maiden and married.

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
Yes. The vast majority of K titles started with "Kiss" or "Kill" and were less literary than what I was in the mood for (while searching... I probably would have better enjoyed an easy romp this week, instead of trying to parse old Scottish dialect, but at least this was old YA!)

message 45: by Leona (new)

Leona - What are you reading this week?
The Lives of Others

- Did you use your name, first name or surname?
First name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
No. I'm attempting to read as many of the long listed books for the IMPAC Dublin Awards before the shortlist is announced, and this is one of them.

Did you use your name, first name or surname?
I used my first name.

Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in?
No. As usual, there were too many options and not enough days in the week. Luckily, some of my other choices also fit in other themed weeks, so hopefully I will get to them later this year.

message 47: by L (new)

L | 127 comments - What are you reading this week? The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver

- Did you use your name, first name or surname? First Name

- Did you have difficulties to find a book you were interested in? It was the first book that came to mind because it has been on my TBR since I bought it way back in 2010.

I have 2 other books on my shelves that begin with L - Less Than Angels by the marvellous Barbara Pym, and Look Who's Back by Timur Vermes - but I managed to get them both into other categories for the challenge.

The one book I would have been very tempted to buy is the 2013 Booker winner The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton - definitely one for my 2017 list.

I read this book last year and loved it! It is big, but really interesting.

message 50: by L (new)

L | 127 comments Yes I wish I could fit it into my reading list but this challenge means that there is no space for such a big book! But it is definitely one I want to read in the near future. It looks very much up my street.
