Sarah Oxford (sarahloxford) | 1260 comments Hi everyone, I need help.

I've really struggled this past month, I'm in a real book slump :(
I keep actually giving up on books after 20-30% and those I do finish I can't seem to rate higher than 3 stars.

I need a real EPIC, life altering, emotionally draining read!

Any suggestions?

.chel. (itschel) | 18 comments Hi Sarah, Have you read Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma? It's not life altering but it's definitely emotionally draining.

Chris | 176 comments I would have to agree with chel that Forbidden is one emotionally draining read! I finished reading it on New Year's Eve and was having about 50 people over for a party that night. All day as I was preparing for the party I couldn't stop thinking about the book and would start crying. My husband was like...what is wrong with you. Haha

I'm going to suggest my favorite read Making Faces by Amy Harmon . Definitely emotional and EPIC for me and it made me look at life from another perspective!

message 4: by Julie (new)

Julie | 192 comments Making Faces was a great read. I would also recommend The Last Hour (Thompson Sisters, #3) by Charles Sheehan-Miles and Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

message 5: by Micheala (new)

Micheala Easy by Tammara Summers. Really cute and moving tale.

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. I swear this book changed my life.

Legend, Prodigy and Champion by Marie Lu. Amazing series. It ripped my soul in pieces! You want life altering? This is it.

I just finished reading Maybe Someday and jeez it was amazing! Would definitely recommend to get you out of a slump.

Is it not a bit strange? I read the blurb and I'm a bit uncertain tbh. Would you say definitely read it?

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Oxford (sarahloxford) | 1260 comments Thanks everyone for the suggestions, keep them coming!

I've bought Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah because it was so cheap but everything else has been added to my wishlist.
I loved Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1) by Tammara Webber Micheala so I'm inclined to trust your recommendations!

I'd love to buy Maybe Someday but Colleen Hoovers books always get discounted at some point so I'm holding out for a while.

Forbidden definitely leaves you quite conflicted and emotional. I read it with a buddy which worked out great for me since I needed to vent to her several times about how the book was making me feel. It has a Flowers In The Attic from V.C. Andrews feel to it. (if you've read it)

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Oxford (sarahloxford) | 1260 comments No I haven't read that either! There are so many books to read! I've said for years that I'd like to write one but I'm always too busy reading them :)

I've added Forbidden to my wish list too. It seems a lot of my GR friends have rated it 5 star!

Sienna | 8 comments I felt the books reckless, thoughtless and effortless by S.C. Stephens was an epic emotionally captivating yet draining read. You need a lot of patience with the book, but when I read this book I felt ever feeling that the characters were going through, if you haven't read this, you'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll probably be climbing the walls wanting to shout at the characters but over all it's a very good time investment if that's what you're into.

Shayna Varadeaux (ShaeAnn77) | 15 comments Have you read Breaking Nova or Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorensen? I think Nova and Quinton: No Regrets is out too and if not it will be soon. But they are really great I think.
Also recommend Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining!

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Oxford (sarahloxford) | 1260 comments Ooh I have Breaking Nova, maybe I'll read that next.

message 14: by Sienna (new)

Sienna | 8 comments Sarah, breaking nova is definitely a good read.

Jillian Caldwell | 14 comments Loving Mr. Daniel's by Brittainy Cherry (I believe) was fantastic!!

message 16: by Julie (last edited Jun 17, 2014 07:43PM) (new)

Julie | 192 comments I just finished a two book series by A.E. Murphy. The first book is Broken (Broken, #1) by A.E. Murphy and the second is Connected (Broken #2) by A.E. Murphy . The first one is free and the second was $3.15 last time I checked. This was a really great emotional read.

message 17: by Amy (new)

Amy Brobst (amydali86) | 3 comments I really like Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead . It's a series, and pretty good- vampires, magic, forbidden love. You have to read the Vampire Academy series first, though.
A Need So Beautiful (A Need So Beautiful, #1) by Suzanne Young was pretty emotional for me.
Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik was funny, but not epic.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer is enjoyable, like a cross between Cinderella and Sailor Moon.
It's not YA or NA, but it is a romance- When I Fall in Love by Iris Rainer Dart is beautiful book.

message 18: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Scharlach | 17 comments Slammed series by Colleen Hoover was great... Actually anything by Colleen Hoover is amazaballs!
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Unteachable by Leah Reader
Addicted series by Krista Ritchie
More Than series by Jay McLean
Broken and Screwd by Tijan

Yes, definitely. Making Faces is such a good book. It really pulled a lot of emotions out of me. And if you love that book as much as me, you'll love Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy.

I read the first book and I was so aggravated I could barely finish but it wasn't a bad book, I just hate love triangles and more more so, cheating. You'd recommend me finishing the series? And do you like love triangles?

message 22: by Connie (new)

Mandy Scharlach | 17 comments Hey guys Id like suggestions on books with women who's men left them while pregnant and came back to having a child or surprised they have a child at all. Something with angst and a HEA :)

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Oxford (sarahloxford) | 1260 comments Hi Mandy, you pretty much just described this book...
Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1) by Tara Sivec
Although it isn't very angsty tbh but still a marvelous book!

message 26: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Scharlach | 17 comments Sarah I've read it and loved it! That whole series is really good.

Have you read Forever My Girl (The Beaumont Series, #1) by Heidi McLaughlin
It's a series but the first book is what you're describing..the rest in the series is about different members of his band so you could read this one as a standalone.
