Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I think I'm getting your rain Helen.

:(
It's all good....really......I raked leaves for three days....now I can rest.

All I want for Christmas is good weather.
A little snow is good.........but no ice...please no ice.

Don't like ice. Apparently we're getting the end of hurricanes, Abigail, Kate and Barney. I need to rake leaves.

message 53: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And I ventured out in the rain yesterday to see a concert (Iris de Ment), which was canceled literally while I was standing on the corner waiting for the bus. But it worked out anyway -- as was already my plan, I went to Acadia, had a couple of lovely beverages and a quesadilla, and read on my Kindle. Then instead of going down to the concert venue, I just got on another bus and came back home.

Glad you're plans weren't totally ruined. What did you read?

message 55: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'm currently in the middle of Star Wars: The Rise of the Empire, which collects two of the new Star Wars books and a couple of short stories. My plan is to read as many of the new Star Wars novels as I can before I find myself sitting in a theater dressed like a Jedi on 12/17.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments What's Acadia?
You've peaked my interest.....I always think of Quebec when I hear Acadia......then you brought up quesadillas...that doesn't quite go.
lol

message 57: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments http://acadiapub.com/ I usually get the black bean burger & fries, but decided to do something different last night.

http://www.thecedar.org/ (which is just down the street) is where I go for concerts. I'm hoping to repeat the process with better luck on Friday for a local group called Prairie Fire Lady Choir.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Seems like a great area.
I like hearing different musicians.

Acadia, also, looks like my kind of place.

message 59: by Maarit (new)

Maarit I have a day off at work tomorrow, yay! I can do whatever I want and the best part is I can sleep as long as I want :)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Sleep is good....enjoy!

The thing about sleep for me is....at the end of the day..
.I feel like it went by too fast, and I missed something.

Maarit! I'm so jealous. We had parents evening yesterday, I was in school from 7:45 until 18:50. Then travelled home. Been tired all day.

I'm also jealous of the black beans. Yum.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments The first time I REALLY enjoyed black beans, was at Inner Harbour Baltimore, Md.
Some out of the way vegetarian restaurant...had acorn squash with black beans and a dab of sour cream (guess it wasn't vegan). I have tried to make it myself....never quite as good.

Sounds delicious. My daughter is a vegan. I bought her a cook book and liked it so much, I had to buy another copy. It has an excellent black bean chilli recipe.
Deliciously Ella

message 64: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but they do a really nice black bean burger there -- mostly because it doesn't try to pretend that it's not made of black beans ...

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Yeah...I'm not vegetarian either. My ex was....when it suited....lol

He liked steak.

This was the group I saw last night, although this recording is from a different performance.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Oh my gosh....Joseph.......
I don't know the group....this time.....
But that song....sung by Pat Benatar....was just on the radio a day or so ago. I don't believe it was coincidental.

It has special meaning, as I just recently lost my husband, and he admired Pat Benatar.
Happy to have heard it, sung a cappella.

By the way, he hated that other musical piece.
;)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I have had many.
Enjoying most of them Helen.

The coffee pot, my husband used more than I, blew a gasket this morning. I just know it was him. It wasn't that old, and he knew I didn't care for his coffee.
lol

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Back to tea!

It's 22:05.

Tomorrow, all teachers have been told that we must attend the church near school as the parishioners thought it would be nice.

Not pleased as I work hard five days a week, 7:30-18:00, often take marking home with me. Then I spend about four hours Sunday planning the coming weeks lessons. Now I'm giving up 2:30 hours of that day off for free plus losing my lie in. Rant over.

Hence the early(on Saturday) night.

Maarit Brenda, that looks very cool indeed. We don't have any decorations at our home, since we will spend our Christmas elsewhere (or more accurately at many different places).

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Haha...Helen!
It took about 6 tries.

lol

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Thank you, Maarit.

I've lived here 17 or so years, and since it will be the last, I wanted to do something special.

It's a truck my husband had been working on. Very special.
:)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I love lights!

One of the reasons it's my favorite holiday.

Painting.....will be in tge future. though.

I love lights too, seeing them twinkle in Windows

Is it wrong that I'm glad to have the guests departed and the house to myself? The amount of time I've picked up my book, read half a page and had to stop are countless.

message 89: by Ken (new)

Ken Magee Family & friends time is special... so is alone time!

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Christmas is officially over for me.
I'm happy to be alone with my books.

I need a Do Not Disturb sign for the rest of the weekend.

Back to retail world Monday morning, and soooo it must go on.
At least, for now..........

I wonder if we'll get sunshine this year, I'm so feed up of rain that I'm craving hot sunshine beating down.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments We had two weeks of rain and clouds.

The sun came out and it got cold.
Of course, that's when my heater chose to act up.

message 95: by Greta (new)

Greta I have a question about BOTM. For February it is #3 in a series. I understand wanting to read a series, but I haven't read the first two books and I do want to participate if I can.

Would it be beneficial to somehow reopen the threads for the first 2 books when they were the BOTM so people can try to catch up in the series and discuss together? Maybe the people reading #3 would want to further discuss with those catching up as well?

I wasn't sure where to post this question, so if you want me to move it I can. Thanks!!

Crown Tower thread will be open under the archives reads from 2013. Book two hasn't been read. This was allowed as it is set in the same world but not an ongoing series. You don't need to read book one or two to read this, the author also discussed this briefly.

Having said that they are excellent.

Oh, that is good to know. So I won't be spoiling anything to read book 3 then. Glad I can just jump in!

Hoping to splurge and get a taste this time.
