Haven't gotten to a book all week, so I am still reading Reaper's Gale. I finished the first section and hope to read more this weekend. Real life is just getting in the way, and this is not a book I can read in short snatches--I need a chunk of time.

I agree, this is why they are taking me so long. Sometimes when I'm tired, I have to abandon the idea of reading some:(

Finished The Neverending Story it was really entertaining, I had forgotten about half of it since I read it last time, I started The Good Fairies of New York, I was laughing by page 3 which is a good sign.

I just finished my re-read of the Rings of the Master series (pulp sci fi at its finest!) and I'm holding off on starting something new because my copy of Last Song Before Night is due to be delivered any day now :)

Still reading Berlin 1961. Very slow going. My work life has changed lately so I am pretty bagged by 10pm, so I read a few pages and then wake up an hour later.
Its quite dry, but interesting.

So true :( This evening I'm finally going to start reading The Traitor Baru Cormorant.

I finished Reaper's Gale (good) and also Our Endless Numbered Days (interesting and very well written). I'm now reading Cuckoo Song, which is amazing so far (that won't surprise any Frances Hardinge fans). It has a very The Ocean at the End of the Lane vibe to it.

I am currently half way through Tomb Raider The Ten thousand immortals by Dan Abnett and Nik Vincent. Its a very action packed story which explores the myth of the golden fleece. Also well written too.

I'm in the middle of The Colour of Magic, my first ever Pratchett book, for my Discworld readthrough group. I'm loving it so far! I don't read much humour usually, I'm far too grave and serious for that :P

I'm also starting off on Frankenstein, another first-time read for me. And on audiobook, I have The Bridge of San Luis Rey on the go.

I'm continuing with Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which I'm pretty sure keeps growing by 100 pages every time I look at it. By the end of the week, I also hope to squeeze in a non-genre read of Victoria, and Written in Red - UF being an unusual subgenre for me to explore.

I'm now reading An Ember in the Ashes and then hope to start Dark Orbit, which friend updates have made sound very interesting and I'm really looking forward to:)

I'm finishing Different Seasons by Stephen King. Then I'm reading The Coming Race by Edward Bulwer-Lytton for work. I also plan to read A Borrowed Man by Gene Wolfe as soon as it comes out, only 11 days to go.

Halfway through The Traitor Baru Cormorant, I'm really enjoying it. The story is not complex to follow, there is one POV and so far a honest one, the narrative is very good and the plot very interesting. Who said accountants are boring?

I'm not for a fan of dystopian settings but An Ember in the Ashes looks the hype for YA fantasy, I'm curious.

I never read the book never ending story but loved the film, did you see it?

Honestly Alissa I a not loving it as much as I expected to. If you were going to pick one YA book to read, you would be much better off going with Cuckoo Song. It's a far superior book - and I say that as a person who actually does read and enjoy YA dystopian fiction.:) Cuckoo Song is just that good.

Half-way done with The Last Kingdom. Cornwell is an amazing writer. I picked up from the library yesterday, so it's waiting in the wings.

That one's on my radar screen - my friend who wrote Last Song Before Night (which I'm halfway through and holy moly I knew she was talented but didn't quite expect THIS! comparable to Guy Gavriel Kay, for real) is doing a brief book tour in the Northeast US along with Seth Dickinson and one other first-time author being published with Tor - they're coming to my local bookstore on Tuesday and I'm super excited!

I finished An Ember in the Ashes, and sorry to say, I wasn't not as impressed as I had hoped to be (usually I love this stuff!). I'm now reading The Empress Game, which is off to a much more promising start. This book received a stellar review from Liz Bourke at Tor.com.

The cover is really creepy but I read your review, it looks very interesting, since it's YA I guess it's not really horror, right?

@Deedee...ah, well, I'm about 80% or so, and indeed, it won't surprise me if it ends with a tbc, as long as there are no annoying cliffhangers I guess it's fine, too much meat roasting and too few pages left.

If the end doesn't disappoint, it's a 4.5 stars book for me. Very well structured, and I do so love finances and intrigue :D

I'm enjoying my current Drenai group read, White Wolf (Drenai Saga, #10). I like the fact that the main character is a new character.

Cuckoo Song isn't about creepy dolls, so don't be put off by the cover. It's a dark fantasy chageling story appropriate for adults too even though it's shelved YA. It's not written down in terms of language...Hardinge's prose is excellent.

Ha, I refuse to go to bed before 10. Even then these days I seem to be awake at 5am for some stupid reason.
We used to be able to work from home two days a week so I was able to recharge. Now thats gone. It's very taxing.

I'm travelling on an extended so am limited to library ebooks; I finished Prodigy which I really enjoyed. I have Champion on my reader. I'm now reading Darkspell which I never finished on a previous trip and enjoyu it also

Next up will be We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. I'll be getting to Dark Orbit in the later part of the month.

*quote* October is not going well. We're half-way through and I've just read one book and a novella (Splatterism: The Tragic Recollections of A Minotaur Assailant btw, if you are into drug-induced stories it's free with Kindle unlimited).
I need to change the situation. Next in line: Splatterism: The Disquieting Recollections of a Minotaur Assailant: An Upbuilding Edifying Discourse, Archmage and then I'll see (I've recently added Cuckoo Song and Last Song Before Night to my tbr). Not sure whether to stick to standalones/trilogy or try and launch on a longer series (I see Hobbs beckoning).

I love Abercrombie (first law books, not shattered sea). Lately I've got a nice number of books with kindle unlimited, but of course it is almost exclusively indie fantasy.

I finished The Bonehunters the last night. I really liked it and I feel like the series is building up some serious momentum! I'm excited to see how much more intense things get.

As a change of pace, I'm going to slip in some Tamora Pierce next, starting with In the Hand of the Goddess.

That's book two of one of my all time favorite series - have you read Alanna: The First Adventure yet? If not you should start there :)
