What are you reading in October '15?

I'm really digging The Apex Book of World SF Bundle thus far! (The digital copy was only $10 for all four books!)
And, as an throwback to my childhood, I've been enjoying the works of Bill Peet (he's a sort of "Dr Seuss-esque childrens writer), and the "Freddy the Baryard Pig" series. (Currently reading Freddy Goes to the North Pole.)
As an aside, some of us had discussed a buddy read of The Dragonbone Chair for Otctober. Anyone still interested in that? It's been awhile since I've read it...
I am interested but I'm not ready, the Malazan series is taking me so long to read. Don't feel you have to wait for me though.

Next up: Uprooted by Naomi Novik.

Do you think it would be better to start with the short works if I plan to read the House of Shattered Wings?
Currently (almost starting) reading The Traitor Baru Cormorant, I've had a seriously busy week and I've not been able to read a single page for days, so unlike me.

You could use the shorter works (especially Morningstar's Shadow, which is free!) if you want to get a taste for the world and the style of writing, but all other things being equal I'd say that the shorter works would be better as a follow-up to the novel. They're all set in Paris prior to the events of Shattered Wings, and expand on some of the secondary characters from the novel.

I liked Theft of Swords.

I'll to take a look at those.

Currently listening to Wheel of the Infinite, and reading Lord of the Silver Bow-- excellent, and my first Gemmell book.
planning to read/listen to this month: Tower Lord,Prince of Thorns,The Forest Laird: A Tale of William Wallace,Lord of Chaos,Curse of the Blue Tattoo: Being an Account of the Misadventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman and Fine Lady

Traitor's Blade
Knight's Shadow
The Thousand Names
The Liar's Key

I am currently reading The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. At first it seemed to drag a bit and was a bit silly. However , I am about 3/4 of the way through and it has turned out to be a pretty good read. It's a tad violent for a children's story (with cutting off heads and such) but it kind of reads like one. Still, it's not bad.

Great choice!
I love that series!
Eagerly awaiting the Enlgish translation of the 5th book.....

I just got my book for Mad ship and will pick it up after finishing Life universe and everything.

Yes, he/ she is in the three trilogies using different names each time.

Cant wait to see how it all comes together!!!
Just finished The City of Dreaming Books What a crazy, unusual, wonderful tale. It was different from any other book I've read before. if you want something different from the same old, same old, this is the book for you. Their are a lot of silly elements to this book, the hardest one for me to get past was that Optimus Yarnspinner, the main character, was a dinosaur. So if one decides to give it a try, I promise, once you get past the silliness you are in for one heck of a joy ride.

I started The Elfstones Of Shannara by Terry Brooks today. There is a new show coming out soon based on this book and I wanted to read it before hand so that the show wouldn't ruin the book.

Lol. I'm really enjoying this month's group read - Wheel of the Infinite. Going to bed early to read it.

YES!

Now the book will ruin the show!
;)
What's the show called? Hadn't heard anything. I'm an old Shannara fan, though it's been years.......

I'm still reading the final volume of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, I'm a slow reader most of the time. This one has been a little slower in building, but it seems like the last 300 pages are going to be truly epic. Erikson has had us thinking back to moments in Gardens of the Moon, and to me that's part of what makes this series such a masterpiece.

We'll see whether I actually get to the end or not.

Here my review of 3rd book in Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy.
Kindle uk daily deal: Dark Eden and The Black Guard. I've previously read the first and bought the second :)
