Cindy Edwards (cmedwards) My daughter got me into reading the Morganville books and so far I like them. The plot of Glass Houses was interesting, unbelievable but interesting. It seems crazy to stick around a town like that just to prove you can be independant but who knows. I have thought about reading the House of Night books but I am afraid it would not be good for my thirteen year old daughter and it would kill her if she saw me reading them. What do you guys think? They seem to be of the mature nature. So many books so little time.

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I know!I think I'm in love with the smell of an old book too. Can't smell the ink and old paper on a Kindel! Kindel well have to add that to it! LMAO!

message 53: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I've read them as well as my daughter, she is a very mature 12 year old. I know it's prob. not teaching her any great values but we bond and talk them over with eachother. We both agree that the main character has made some poor choices. My daughter also is maturing at a quick rate (has bigger boobs than mom! Ehhh!) Luckly she loves reading more than boys! She is pretty shy and to smart for them for now! Gawd help me!

message 54: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Edwards (cmedwards) Thank Jo and Karla. I will have to add that on our to read. I goofed up and let my daughter get a head start on the Morganville books and she is a couple of books ahead of me. She told me not to worry because noone has had sex but I am hoping with school starting I can get ahead of her . Karla, My daughter is maturing fast also. I was 18 before my body started maturing at the rate of my thirteen year old and it scares me. You are lucky my daughter is boy and book crazy.

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments If we could just always keep them sheltered and safe, But noooo they have to grow up and move out and meet all kinds of people we may not approve of. All we can do is hope that we have raised them with strong values and morels, so they can be happy in life and not be harmed.

I'm on page 95 of Brother Odd, but I put it down because I finally got Guilty Pleasures in from the library. I've been wanting to start the Anita Blake series forever, but just never managed to get around to it. I've almost finished it, so I'll be back to Brother Odd by tomorrow! Let me know what you think of Odd Hours.

The Odd books are so good! My fave is the first one, Odd Thomas, but I just love that character, so all the books are worth reading.

I really like that book!! I'm reading the 3rd one now, Fire Study. The best of the series was definitely the 1st one, but they're all good. :-)

Oh how I love that series! Her last one of the series comes out in the fall and I am heart broken that it's ending! Truly a hilarious, albeit short, read!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) Jo wrote: "Let me know what you think of Nick and Norah! I loved that book :)"

I loved Water for Elephants! I read it last year and have since downloaded to my laptop on audio from audible.co.uk and have listened to it several times since.

message 80: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Jones | 4 comments I'm reading The Thief of Always by Clive Barker and Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. Haunted is ok; The Thief of Always is very good so far.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have never read Clive Barker but someone recommended one to me Coldheart Canyon which I have on my bookcase. Maybe I should try him I need a new author to get my teeth into!

message 82: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) Kyle - Enjoy Thief of always, it's a really good book. I liked it enough to buy the comic book version too. It's meant for younger readers though, but still very good.

Lynne - I highly recommend Clive Barker, his work is very versatile and for the most part he creates very good stories. IMO, some of his best work is in The Books of Blood, Weaveworld, Imagica, The Great & Secret Show [artI:], & Everville [artII:].

message 83: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Jones | 4 comments Lynne, I think I'm going to be trying all Barker's work including Coldheart Canyon. I'm only about 75 pages into The Thief of Always it's already pretty good, I hope it continues.

Jerrod, thanks for the recommendations.Think I'll give Imajica a try next.

message 84: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) It's good, it's similar to Weaveworld.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I am half way through The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and its getting quite good.

I also have others on the go!

message 91: by Shelli (new)

Shelli I am now reading The Book Thief...

message 92: by S.G. (new)

S.G. (sgbrowne) | 1 comments The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy. The L.A. Quartet was recommended to me, and I loved the film version of L.A. Confidential (which should have taken home best picture honors instead of Titanic), but I digress...

Denise (drstacer) | 15 comments How do Morganville compare to Sookie or Twilight?

message 97: by Denise (new)

Denise (drstacer) | 15 comments Why did you like Twilight the best? I liked Sookie better because it was funny. I like Eric way better than Edward.

message 98: by Elmobuddie (new)

message 99: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) A friend brought me Wicked so i put down Odd Hours to read this first. It's about the the life and times of the wicked witch of the west. I'm only one 4th into it, but it's very good. Everyone thinks Galinda's the good witch. Wrong! She is a total BITCH! The witch of the west has a name who knew? It's Elphaba, so far this is a good book.
