Abby finished the last bites of her omelet and put the plate by the sink and slipped on her beat up green converse that she had found at a consignment store and bought with her birthday money.
Abby stepped out of the apartment and ran outside, overjoyed when she felt faint raindrops on her bare arms.

"How so? We learned in school that getting colds has nothing to do with being cold so pneumonia has nothing to do with rain!"
((I do! And WHAT???))
"This is the school?" Abby said as they approached a rather large building with tons of kids walking around in the courtyard outside.

((I'M GOING ON A ROAD TRIP!))

((How am I messing with you?))
"Yep."
"I hope so," Abby said, doubtfully. "But I'm not that good at making friends in new places. Talking to new people scares me."

"That's a whole lot easier said than done," Abby said, looking out at all the kids, laughing and joking.
Abby followed him through the door into the crowded hallway. Too many people. Too many people. Too many people.
Abby looked at the little room with a secretary sitting in it and one other kid, a boy about her age. To her it looked like heaven compared to this hallway full of kids. She opened the door and went in.
((you should. nod, nod.))
The secretary looked down at Abby and smiled encouragingly. "What do you need?"
"I'm new here," she said quietly, looking down at her feet. "I need to get, um, en-enrolled."

Abby glanced over at the boy sitting in a chair. She almost waved, but couldn't bring herself to do it.

She couldn't tell if the boy had smiled at her or was thinking about something, but she lifted a hand in what could've been a wave, or just an absent arm movement so she wouldn't feel stupid if he wasn't smiling at her.

Ben was still talkingto the secretary.
"So would you like to start school today or on Monday?" she asked Abby.
