Ben nodded. "Yeah, but then she was gone again, and I had no idea what had just happened. Anyway, I was just sitting there, kinda...Dazed? She came back a few minutes, and she asked if she could sit. She looked so hesitant." he smiled faintly.

Ben nodded. "Her name was Cristina," he said and sighed, "She was gorgeous. Auburn hair and the biggest green eyes I've ever seen. Frankly she was a geek," he smiled faintly. "Do you remember how I used to loathe reading?"
"I'd completely forgotten about that!" Abby said, looking down at the book next to Ben. "You're reading a book! Holy cow!"
Ben smiled. "Yeah. She kind of managed to get rid of my bad habit. She was always reading. Anything and everything," he said. "Anyway, when the train got to Denver, we got out, and she looked so scared. I asked her where she was going and she said she had no idea. That she'd ran away."
Ben nodded. "By now I knew that I was going to California, so I asked of she wanted to tag along. She said yes, and anyway, it took us a few months to get there, and along the way, I fell in love with her. And for some wonderful reason, she loved me back. It was tough. It was always tough but at least we had each other's backs, you know?"
Abby nodded, even though she really didn't. She'd never fallen in love with someone who loved her back.
((Awww okay.))Ben shook his head. "Then, last year..." he took a shaky breath before continuing, "I have no idea what we were doing in that alley so late. all I remember is that this idiot was drunk and he mistook her for someone else," he said as his voice cracked.
Ben shook his head, and blinked, trying to stop the burning inhospitable eyes. "He shot her. And there--there was nothing I could do," he whispered.
"You're allowed to be sad," Abby said quietly. "That's what Brooke used to tell me. And it's the truth."
"Just like everyone else I know besides you," Abby smiled, her eyes getting more watery. "I'm glad I found you."

Abby woke up as sun streamed into the room. She groaned, and promptly rolled off the bed. "Ow," she moaned, still half asleep.
Ben was woken up by a thud, and an "Ow!" He stretched and looked over the side of the bed to see Abby. "Good morning."
"Touche," Abby said standing up. "I guess I'd better get ready to go get enrolled in school?" Abby said as a question. She wasn't sure if she needed to go with him or not.
"I think I'll come," Abby said. "Staying here is boring." Her face stayed solemn but her eyes were fighting back a twinkle.
Ben shook his head and ruffled her hair. "Alright, you get ready and I'll make breakfast. Yes, real breakfast."
Abby grabbed some clothes and hopped in the shower and let the ice cold water rush over her. Whenever she took showers she made sure they were ice cold, to wake her up, and heighten her senses. Less chance her mind would wander in freezing cold water.
Abby stepped out of the shower and pulled on her favorite green and black checkered shirt from Wet Seal. Well, technically, it was from Goodwill, but it was one of her better finds. She toweled off her hair and brushed it out so it would dry somewhat smooth. She walked out to wear Ben had made breakfast. "That smells good," she said.
Abby grabbed a plate and put an omelet on it and started to eat it. "Mmmmm," she said, surprised. "When did you learn to cook?"
"You've changed a lot," Abby said after she swallowed. "But somehow you're still the same old Ben."
"Me?" Abby said. "I haven't changed at all. Besides getting a little bigger and a little smarter."
