I'm not positive but I blv inside your own personal journal (Thread) you can use profanity as you see fit. On the public threads such as this one, I think they keep it limited.

Attention Mods - Suggestion: ...idk might be a good idea to have some type of disclaimer in the titles. Kinda like how the * means you are free to comment in that persons journal. Maybe have another symbol to signify that, that particular journal may contain profanity or mature subject matter. Just a suggestion.

that's a great suggestion, Nate. Thank you.

Nate | 4557 comments Thanks. I'll send the bill. I accept cash and all major credit cards...well their account number with the security code.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments I didnt even know about the star thing...

Would be interesting to have another symbol for swearing. Im just wondering if it is always needed. Like my journal does have swearing, but not often and typically only in super emotionally charged entries..... Technically if it was rated like a movie it would be R for having the f word more than once, but considering how often it is used compared to the length of the journal and that I usually *** it out it is iffy. So perhaps two symbols would be better. No symbol for zero or very mild swearing, another for few or ***, and another for when the content is typically mature or has considerably more swearing.
Except then you hit the problem where the person who writes the journal may be unaware of how the content should be rated, or may not even know what to rate it as.
And at that point it seems like people should be given the symbol disclaimer by a mod or a select amount of other members if we want to make sure people actually have the disclaimer symbol.
But then again I am likely over thinking it.

Zombieslayer⚡Alienhunter (theslayingisthunter) | 13042 comments ... Never thought of that before. My journal has kind of a lot of profanity, and some graphic content.
Might not be a bad idea to let people know about the cussing and explicit content beforehand.

message 319: by Nate (new)

Nate | 4557 comments My theory is this, if they click on the link to your journal and scroll through the first few pages they should be able to make a judgement call for themselves if they are uncomfortable with the content and then just NOT go to that journal again. Just like a TV show you have to power to change the channel.

Yeah true we can give them some type of warning with a disclaimer symbol but there is a grey area to address and that's where it would get tricky. I mean if ppl see the symbol are they going to automatically think every post is profanity or sexual content? I mean I cuss and sometimes post inappropriate things however the overall content and subject matter Idt is all that bad. I'd prob rate my journal PG 15 ...idk

Even the content of my writing can be considered mature audience, I suppose.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments That's kinda my thinking. Just don't return to the journal if you don't like it. That said it does make sense fo have some kind of disclaimer, especially because people change journal names and such. but there is that grey area. My only thought is to have a new group topic just for people to request others review their journal to come up with a content warning. It could be both a way for people to learn about others and to help them out with the disclaimer symbol thing, which could be done like a star rating system from 1-5 with 1 being mild enough for a toddler and 5 being quite explicit. Only since * is for comments, apparently, we could use something else like × or #

normally ppl have a description that says if you can comment n some triggers etc. We did have the asterisk as a symbol for being able to comment as well, but it's not really used anymore...

Generally I would recommend not visiting those journals, as we are pretty open about being able to express yourself here? Normally I think explicit stuff is not welcome (no r rated stuff allowed) or some more mature/triggering topics in spoilers?

If you're uncomfortable with swearing, I'd advise simply not reading someone's journal thread. There are a lot of members in this group now, and with more people, it's harder to regulate and keep everyone following rules. I'm pretty sure the rules right now are "no r rated material" But again, there are so many members in this group and it's pretty impossible to check everyone's threads and make sure everyone is in line. That idea of system of putting a disclaimer beforehand is a good idea, but again, there's no guarantee anyone would even follow the rules. So like I said before, just don't read something if it's making you uncomfortable.

message 323: by Nate (new)

Nate | 4557 comments ...idr consider the F word offensive enough to be rated 'R', (Unless it is being used obsessively like every other word)
yeah I was brought up not to use it in the company of females cus its 'not proper' but really? I think times have changed and depending on how its being used idt its all that bad. ..besides I was cussed out by like a 7 yr old one time.

Sorry to unsettle you.

message 325: by s (new)

s (cherrybelugas) | 5115 comments Mod
Yeah normally F word isn't R rated unless it's used sexually.

This group doesn't really have regulations when it comes to language, though (besides slurs)...

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments Actually Im pretty sure PG 13 movies are allowed one F bomb, more makes it R rated. Though some get away with two or three... probably when not used sexually, yes

message 327: by s (new)

s (cherrybelugas) | 5115 comments Mod
Yeah, and a lot of YA books have the f bomb.

message 328: by tired, yikes (new)

If you're uncomfortable with swearing, you should probably just leave. There's no definite rule about it here, so.

message 329: by s (new)

s (cherrybelugas) | 5115 comments Mod
You can have a rule on your own journal, though.

message 330: by Nate (new)

Nate | 4557 comments ...notice how we suddenly started using terms like F bomb or the F word instead of just saying FUCK.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments Lol. I use it rarely so for me it isnt a surprise...

Willa Valentine (paperseas) Not all of the fonts work on Goodreads, though. And you can also use fontspace.com to find big fonts that you can copy images of, but that's a little confusing if you're not up for it.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments 1) pick a name
2) go to main page of the group
3) towards the right below the option to flag the group is something about the group discussions. There will be an option for new. Click that. If you are having trouble finding it look to the left and directly before any topics will be something saying "Discussion Board." Look to the right of that a bit aways.
4) punch in info, pick appropriate folder.
5) you have a journal!
