I feel like I missed something. Why was Kaz shooked? He even fainted. I felt so bad seeing him so vulnerable. It was like someone shot me in the gut, reading about him and his brother suffering. I can't imagine the pain he went through, lying next to his brother's body, unable to do anything but witness him slipping away. Jordie was a good brother. Even after his death, he still managed to keep his brother's safe. It was so heartbroken that Kaz had to leave him with the ocean. That was just so sad.

Jesper is crushing on Wylan hard! That was so unexpected though that Jesper turned out to be a Fabrikator. He would have been unstoppable if he were to have proper training. He's already so awesome now. He's also such a daddy's boy, just like how Inej's a daddy's girl.

But the most shocking thing to me is when Wylan said, "[. . .] I tried to hump the ambassador's leg. The leg was asking for it."

I couldn't believe it!

Knowing Inej's background does help us understand how she acquired all her skills.

I guess being in such close proximity to the other prisoners reminded him of lying among the dead bodies in the Reaper's Barge. What a traumatic childhood he had! I assumed he had to have gone through something horrible to explain his gloves and not being able to stand people touching him. Jordie was a really good big brother. He looked after Kaz. Too bad greed got the best of him. Can you believe how Hertzoon could take advantage of two kids?! Leaving them destitute and all alone? (hide spoiler)]

Young Kaz learned how to survive and ruled real fast. His boyhood disappeared along with his brother. It's so sad. Though, I can't help but feel bad for his first two victims. They, too, were innocent boys.

Hmmm...why did Kaz lied about finding Pekka Rollins?

I love the lovely girlfriends bonding Nina and Inej had. It was so sweet, and Nina was HILARIOUS.

And once again, little Wylan saved Jesper. As if Jesper couldn't be more in love with him~

When Inej attacked that Hyena (that's what I'm gonna call her), I was living! THAT'S MY GIRL!!! But now that she's been taken, I am worried for her.

And I don't wanna say that it was predictable, but I predicted everything single thing regarding the Nina, Jarl Brum, Matthias & Kaz situation in Ch. 34 & 35. None of that was a surprise to me, everything turned out exactly as how I predicted. But, it's not good or bad per se. Just wasn't surprising.

Maybe the author just skipped the part where they clean up? *shrug* But I mean, Inej should have had it the roughest since she climbed up that thing. It melted her shoes, Jesper had to use his power to get them off her.

Oh, definitely some good words there. Matthias was done being brainwashed. Nina was right, that it wasn't Matthias's fault, but Jarl Brum's for feeding them with blind hatred.

I did. I usually don't do prediction, because then it gives me certain expectation, but when Jarl Brum took Nina to the treasury, I was texting my friend what I think is gonna happen. First, I was like "I bet he knows who Nina is, and is probably taking her to the treasury so he can lock her up with the other Grishas." Then when Nina wondered if Matthias knows of Jarl Brum's survival, I was like "He probably knows. Maybe they already met, and Matthias's working for him right now." Then Matthias showed up, and prove me right. Then I was like "You know what, I think this is probably Kaz's plan." Turns out, I was right about that too.

I think it's funny how the team finds Wylan mostly hopeless, but he actually saves Jesper's ass time over time.

Well, I'm glad that Nina and Matthias now realized that they're the end game. Hopefully, there will be less angst from here on between them.

"I have been made to protect you. Only in death will I be kept from this oath."

This Kuwei boy seemed decent. But I can't trust him yet, we just met. I hope he's good though.

I like that on the verge of his death, Kaz thought about Jordie and Inej. I think that was the most honest thoughts/feelings of Kaz we have ever come across.

Inej is truly the queen. So choking that Hyena had a purpose after all, not just being blinded by anger. She's so dope.

And the whole tank stealing scene, THAT WAS SOOOO AWESOME!!!

Kaz running out of his tricks is such a traumatic to witness. I was actually scared when he admitted that he couldn't figure out a way out of that. But...*pout* Nina took jurda parem and now I'm scared for her T0T What a sacrifice!

Ugh! I'm a little upset. I finished typing out my thoughts and then Goodread decided to refresh for no reason and I lost what I typed out.

I am definitely not the better person. I was rooting for Nina to massacre them all. Matthias is the better person though. He truly does have a good heart. And now it's even better without his prejudice and Jarl Brum's influence.

I hope Nina will stay strong. I love her and wish that she won't suffer too much and that she'll survive this. I love Nina, Inej, and Jesper's relationship so much. How Jesper worried for her (like how he worried for Inej), and the way Nina and Inej bond when they were alone together. I love these little moments.

There were two consecutive chapters consisted of romance, and for some reason that weirded me out. I don't know why, lol.

Inej is so elegant. How she held her head up high and just giving in to Kaz's half-ass words even though those were the most honest and touching words that have ever left his mouth.

Jesper was so angry at Van Eck, and he has every right to be. What a f***ing d!ck!! Sending those letters to taunt your son. Ugh! I want to kick him in the face! Poor my cutie baby Wylan (T0T) The way Wylan and Jesper defended each other was so lovely. And don't forget that Jesper admits out loud that ge likes Wylan('s stupid face)!! >w< But Kaz sees everything, doesn't he? He wasn't with them all the time, but he figured out Jesper's feelings for Wylan. I was wondering this whole time why they always leave Jesper out of the loop, so I'm glad that it was explained.

I was worried about Kaz being honest though. Because the more honest he was being, the more vulnerability reveals and I was right to be worry because now they know Inej's his weak point.

We need to save Inej!!

I enjoyed reading this overall, it was a fun adventure. I love how the novel was formatted in the way that allows us to hear the story being told in different point of view. And it's kinda cool that the first and last chapter were told in someone's else point of view. I do hope we finally get to read in Wylan's point of view in the next book though. I would love to hear his voice.

No no, it's not that I'm not into romance. I do enjoy a good romance. But because the entire book was lack of romance, so I was already put in that mood set, but then suddenly two consecutive chapters were very romantic and that threw me off a bit haha.

Kaz is a super mystery to me so far and I am in love with him. I really would like to know what is under his gloves. ;)
Inej is awesome, and I can't wait to see her develop.
Jesper is meh so far, don't know a TON about him.
Nina is the best. She brings some of the Grisha Trilogy with her to this book and I appreciate it. She seems super bad ass so far? Hope she stays that way and I wonder what she did to Matthias.

The plot is super interesting, and I loved seeing some of Kaz's ruthlessness and honestly I ship Kaz and Inej to the moon and back. I cant' decide who is my favorite of them yet! (view spoiler)[The tense journey to Ice Court. Starting out on a ship for a week, and then traveling through the snow. I thought this was really well done on Bardugo's behalf. Doing the flashbacks during the journey and tying it in with what they were currently going through. Such as Nina and Matthias traveling through the winter and keeping warm. Wow, what Nina did to Matthias and the fact they are teaming up now because they don't think the guy should live. Also when Kaz passed out and we found out what happened to his brother and ughhh I felt so bad. But now they are currently in the prison and I am super excited to see this unwind. (hide spoiler)]

I have finished both books. It's reaalllyyy good 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. The slow burn romance and the plot really gripped me from the beginning. The world building was also pretty detailed ❤.

The author has a very interesting writing style and while many could argue parts are slow and boring, she does such a good job of storytelling that I'm just sucked in and I didn't mind. Going in blind on this one, not sure what it's about, all I know is I want more of the Grisha Universe and this will feed my addiction :) (hide spoiler)]
