(view spoiler)[ They are just rescuing Matthias from prison. I'm about 100 pages in and I'm "JUST" starting to want to come back to this book at nights. (I've started and finished 2 books since starting this one...they pulled me in more than this one did) People keep saying it picks up once the team is brought together, and I really hope so because I'm 100 pages in and feel pretty lost right now. (view spoiler)[Just finished Part 1 yesterday as well. As a non native, the beginning was very hard for me to read, I had to reread some paragraphs a few times because of the sophisticated writing and the complicated story. But it gets better. A little.
Not a fan of multiple POVs, I get easily confused. (I already forgot who the 1st chapter was about. Was he even relevant to the rest of the story?).

(view spoiler)[Ok, I'm really into it, now. I really like most of the characters (except maybe Matthias and Wylan, but that might come later) and tadaaaaaam, I knew there was a connection between Kaz and Inej and I ship them mucho mucho. They better give me a nice romantic scene!
Not sure how the plan at the Ice Court unfolds so far, I do fear it'll turn into a complete fiasco, but we'll see. (hide spoiler)]

Just starting part 3 today!! I do like it better now that I know the characters a bit more! I don't want to sound like everyone else who has commented, but I'm intrigued by Kaz and Inej the most. I like how you can tell all the characters all have "history" with each other, but I wish I would have known more about it at the beginning because I almost gave up on this book!

(view spoiler)[ This book had a lot of twists and turns! I REALLY enjoyed the character development in this book. I think the backstories helped with this, and I really like how they are all intertwined a bit with some slow build romance and tension with characters. I however, had a very hard time picturing the world. I don't know if it's because I didn't read the other trilogy first, but I will need to reread this book because I think I missed a lot...plus the beginning was so painfully boring that I almost put the book down. Even when they got into the heist, I kept wanting to go back to the other books I was reading at the time over this one. I enjoyed the end, I enjoyed the characters (even though none of them are great people) and I will read the 2nd book once I reread parts of this book! (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ At first when I started reading this I was super confused with the setting because I was assuming it was in the exact same place as the grisha trilogy. But, when I text my cousin and got more information on the setting I fell in love with the book immediately. I have to say I feel like Nina is my favorite character right now. So when Matthias grabbed her by the throat at the end of chapter 6 I was holding my breath! (hide spoiler)]

Part 2-4:
(view spoiler)[ I don’t think I’ve ever been so engrossed in a first book of a series or duology in the longest time! I feel like I’m super connected to all the characters not just one or two even though Nina and Kaz are now my two favorite characters. The entire time during part 4 I was holding my breathe towards the end hoping that they make it out without something really serious happening. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ This book absolutely blew me away! After being away from the grisha world for awhile I had to get my cousin to clarify a few things for me. But, after she clarified them within the first few chapters I was immediately sucked back into the world. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been this invested in a first installment in a series in a very long time. When I read the grisha trilogy I knew I was going to love Leigh Bardugo’s writing and that definitely hasn’t changed one bit! I love the atmosphere of the book and how descriptive she was to let you know exactly where a battle or an encounter was happening. I will read absolutely anything she writes and this could be my favorite fantasy book of the year. (hide spoiler)]

Kaz on the other hand, I really liked him, I liked how he seems to try and look like a really horrible person and I like how he actually is in some ways. Chapter 5-18: (view spoiler)[ Wow, I like this book way more than I thought I would. I love how all the main characters are focused at some point, even though it sometimes makes me want to skip to know what happens to the others. I also like how they all seem to have this deep past that made them build this walls to protect themselves but they sometimes show that they’re softies inside with each other. I’m really hoping Kaz and Inej end up together now, the way he acted when she was hurt and the fact that she implied very obviously that she liked him made me want it even more. I’m also hoping Nina and Matthias solve whatever happened (and of course hoping to know more about their past). But after knowing Kaz’s past I’m still shook so Idk if I can handle them yet lol.
