Introduce Yourself!
Hello everyone! My name is Aeryn. I am a huge horror fan and am excited to find a group of people who enjoy it too. I'm looking to getting to know some fellow horror fans and sharing great book and movie recs! :)

Hi Nora - good to have you aboard. 😊Being a bit geek- ish I just noticed that your name spells Aron backwards. Made me think, have you ever read any Aron Beauregard? Is extreme, but good if you like splatterpunk… ‘The Slob’…excellent, thoroughly recommend it. 👍

Hi Ian - Thanks so much! :) I have not read Aron Beauregard and that does sound very interesting! I will have to check them out!
Nora - be warned as he is heavy duty and definitely not for everyone. Is extreme horror, but a great story. Let me know if you ever intend to go for it. 👍 😎 👍

I greatly appreciate the warning Ian and I will let you know if I ever want to read it :)
Welcome to HA everyone! We're almost ready for the very best time of year - Fall and Halloween. Things get a bit strange around here... but in a good clean scary way. ;)

@Aeryn: Welcome and very awesome as you came to the right place! Looking forward to future discussions with you :-)
Hello! I'm new to good reads and joined this group for a little excitement! I'm terrified of horror movies but have recently found an interest in horror books. I recently finished The Return by Rachel Harrison. I loved it but looking for something a bit more scary. Any recommendations would be great!
Tony wrote: "Hello! Always good to be in the company of fellow horror fans!"Hi Tony! I totally agree!
Natasha...I highly recommend Summer of Night by Dan Simmons. One of my all time favorites. Great characters.
Kasia wrote: "Aeryn and Nora, thank you so much for joining our group, hope you find some awesome stuff :)"Thanks so much, Kasia! I have already found some awesome things:)
@Zesty: Welcome and awesome name, by the way! I'm glad you love horror novels as over time, you might enjoy horror movies again since most of the time, the novels are scarier than the movies!
Greetings! I'm Dana Minyard, and I've been reading horror for most of my 60 years above ground :-) I'm always on the lookout for suggestions on great reads, but my tastes range so far and wide, that it's challenging to think of a sub-genre that I'm pulled to. I suppose it would be helpful to mention a few books and/or authors I appreciate, so here goes. Michael McDowell, T.E.D. Klein, Peter Straub, 'Salem's Lot, House of Leaves, M.R. James, Thomas Ligotti. That's just to name a few; if I put some thought into it, this post could go on for quite some time. I'm happy to have found this group, and look forward to learning about authors and books I might have missed!

Have you ever read Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia? It’s a really great horror book that’s more recent!
@Dana: Welcome and love your list of horror authors and novels! I look forward to future horror discussions with you :-)
This probably isn't the right thread to ask this but I was wondering about Paul Tremblay's new book Pallbearers Club. I read A Head Full of Ghosts and Disappearance at Devil's Rock but wasn't a big fan. This new book sounds really interesting...I like the concept but it didn't seem to get the best reviews. Just wondering if anyone read and what you thought.Tony

Tony, this thread is intended for basic introductions. If you want to query about a book or author you can try the NOVELS or AUTHORS section, for example.

I'm also a fan of every book and author you've listed there, other than Ligotti. I get his work, but I don't care for it that much.
You're definitely in the right place, Dana!

Everything McDowell!!!!
Welcome Dana!

Welcome Dana! Have you ever read Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia? It’s a really great horror book that’s more recent!I have not read that book but have heard good things about it, and the plot sounds right up my alley. I see that it's in development as a series on Hulu, so I'd best put that on my list so I can read it before that happens!

Mexican Gothic is set on the heathered covered hills of the Mexican moors... I kid, but it does have a very "Thornfield Hall" feel about it. At least it did to me. And welcome to the group Dana!
