So it's okay if return to their old world, or not, as long as it happens at the end?The Paradise War (start of a trilogy) Oxford students get sucked into the Celtic otherworld. (Written by a Christian author (I think) but not "christian fiction" if that makes sense)
Once a Princess Humorous take on the secret heritage trope--a "normal" girl/woman finds out her mom married the prince of another world, and they've been hiding in exile. Very funny.
Okay, these are Christian Fiction, but match your criteria:
Black: The Birth of Evil Whole series about one character and his live(s) split between this world and another.(start of a trilogy)
Arena
I read this awhile ago, Smudges Mark. A boy and girl find another world that they are somehow connected to. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
The Summer Tree and its two sequels - five main characters are called out of our world into the world of Fionavar. Top-notch writing and an epic fantasy.Also The Magicians and The Magician King by Lev Grossman.
The Family Tradeand other books in the seriesThe Many-Coloured Landand other books in the series. (In this series, the characters go back in time to a period just after the dinosaurs, and what they find is so unusual that it's really another world.)
Oh, also The Maker of Universes - man gets out of our world into another one. And another one. And another one... It's the first in the World of Tiers series, so if you like it there are several more.
Can't remember if he stays but pretty sure he did. It's been since like middle school when I read it, and I'm in college now but: Faerie Wars
You could try Run To Earth It has the mc leave this world and go to another realm. It's YA. I apologise if suggesting your own book is not permitted.
Between the Lines there is a character that goes to another world at the very end, but other then that, I can't give much else without completely spoiling the entire story. It's a YA book that's mostly romance, but there is a tiny bit of fantasy evolved. It's one of my favourite stories though! :)
Whimsical wrote: "Wow, thank you all for the suggestions! March Break is finally here so it's time to get reading."Come back and tell us what you thought :)
The Touchstone Trilogy by Andrea K Host. The first book in the trilogy is Stray. Also, if you can find a copy, Heroes of Zara Keep by Guy Gregory.
Dying Bites another series where the MC goes to another world. as of the last one I read (book 4) she was still stuck there. (My TBR pile is too big, it's taking over my house. Help, help, I'm being eaten by a giant book pil. . . .)
A couple of Barbara Hambly's series from the 80's/90's were like this:The Darwath series, book 1 is The Time of the Dark ;
The Windrose Chronicles, book 1 is The Silent Tower ;
(Hambly's Sun-Cross duology was kind of the reverse...the MC from the 'fantasy world' comes to our world, well, our world of the past, but that actually only happened in the second book now that I think of it. The first book is The Rainbow Abyss).
Terry Brook's Landover series, book 1 is Magic Kingdom For Sale/Sold
The House Between The Worlds by Marion Zimmer Bradley is another oldie.
The Woods Out Back by R. A. Salvatore.
Virtual Mode, book 1 of the Mode series by Piers Anthony.
Changeling, and its sequel Madwand by Roger Zelazney. A young man finds out he is a magician in another world.
Akarnae and the rest of the Medoran Chronicles are a great series! This series is described as Harry Potter meets X-men and Chronicles of Narnia. Akarnae is a bit slow and is mainly there to set the scene and characters but the rest of the series is absolutely the best. The MC never goes back to her world but nothing is lost from that.
I love this thread! You're right a lot of MCs go back home.Hope that you like Isakai
