I'm currently 7 books ahead of schedule with my goal at 90. I wanted to increase to 100 as that was my ultimate goal for the year, but I have been in a bit of a reading slump this month. I just haven't had the time and have been getting way too distracted with a new job and life in general. Hopefully I'll be able to turn it around before the end of the month. If I can manage 14 books before Dec 31st I will have hit 100!!! Compared to my 62 last year, I'm really happy with my progress.

Now 5 books ahead 22/20 read. 2 books over challenge goal. YEAH! Now that I have exceeded my goal I don't really care how many books "ahead" I am, just that the goal was completed and now I am above the 100%.
I completed my challenge and this is my first challenge at that!! Woohoo... 40 books ahead and completed 184 books while my target was 160 .. Am truly happy! :D :D
As of right now, my widget says that I have completed my reading challenge! Yay! I'm still considering raising my goal since there is some time left in the year, but I'm coming out of a slump so we'll see how the next week or so goes. If I could break that 100 book mark, I would be very happy with myself.
Lol, I can always count on you to push me a little further Renee!!! I'm not a big fan of shorts, but I could consider catching up on some plays to put me at that 100 mark. Thanks for the idea!
Only 5 books behind now, and only 7 left to read before the end of the year! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
Lots of time to make it up Iasa, although I admit it can be discouraging to see that. You can get back ahead, don't worry!
This is the first reading challenge I've participated in. Where can I view my widget and how do I update it? Thanks!
@Dmcorcoran: You can find your widget on your home page where you also see your friends updates. There should be a purple badge on the right side of the screen and right beneath that is how you're doing in your challenge.Don't give up Iasa! There is still 11 months left!! :D
Awesome, Marc! You're doing great!
We're not even a month in yet and I'm already 1 book behind :( I'm going to have to either read faster or decrease my goal.
Technically I finished the last book 5 minutes into February, but I'm still counting it for January! I'm 16/175 for the year (5115 pages); 2/18 for the nonfiction challenge; 2/20 for the world lit challenge; 4/24 for the genre challenge.
Keep going Kassandra, I'm already 4 books behind, and I thought January would be a big reading month for me!
Chin up. :D
Chin up. :D
Thanks Holly. I'm hoping that Feb will be the month that pulls me ahead and buys me some room for March. Luckily I have quite a few books on tap that are enjoyable, quick reads - part of why I like romance/chick lit!
I have read 8 out of 40. I am 4 books ahead. I am wondering why I dropped my goal for this year now. I normally don't change things until mid year but I might change it sooner.
Yay for being on track Kassandra and Vickie! :DCongrats on being 3 books ahead Kirk! Being ahead is awesome!
I've read 68 of 401 books. I'm thirteen books ahead of schedule.I have two questions:
1. How do you deal with short stories, novellas, etc., that are under 100 pages?
I read The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami last night and since it's so short, I don't really want to count it toward my goal. So, I upped my GR Challenge goal from 400 to 401.
2. At what point do you raise your GR challenge goal? For example, when you're 20% ahead?
I'm thirteen books ahead, but I find that I consistently don't read as much during December. So, I need to be at least 20 or so books ahead just to compensate for December.
Wow that's amazing Bella!I think counting or not counting novellas under 100 pages is an individual thing. I still count them as I see them as a "back up" for months I won't read as much. I get easily demotivated if my goal gets to out of reach so I keep them as some kind of motivator. Another tactic: write them down and add the date at the end of the year so you can set them as read but they won't count as you didn't add a date.
As for uping the goal: I usual wait until at least half of the year passes to up it. I don't have a fix time of the year where I won't read much. I either read a lot or not a page and it normally changes from one extrem to the other after 2 to 3 months. I'm already feeling the first reading slump creeping tbh.

I have two questions:"
1. As Alessandra said, it's an individual choice. Personally, I count them (I figure the amount of 800+ page books I read makes up for any short ones here or there!), but I know a lot of people don't. Maybe instead of raising your goal you could leave every second short book off your tally by not setting the date that you read it?
2. I've only raised my goal once, and I lived to regret it, heh! I would much rather reach and surpass my original goal with ease than find myself scrambling at the end of the year to reach a goal I'd extended. But again, it's an individual choice - you know yourself better than anyone else does. :)

My widget is upset with me this month - I've gone from 1 book ahead to 3 books behind. Currently sitting at 21%. My poor widget!
