Hi Holly,
I can't wait for you to read West's story as well!
Where did the idea for the Pushing the Limits series come from?
I was actually writing another story when Echo's voice popped onto the page. This voice was very distinct from the one I had been writing, but I loved it so much that I decided to see where she would take me. I'm glad I did as I love Echo and Noah together.
Who was your favorite character to write about?
Abby. She's a character readers meet in Crash Into You and she plays a heavy roll in Take Me On.
What's your writing process like?
I'm a plotter by nature, but I have yet to write a story that has stuck with my plans. Somewhere along the way, my characters take over the story and I let them.

Hi Dre,
I'm so excited to hear you enjoyed Pushing the Limits!
Both Echo and Noah were well-developed characters, did you base them from real-life characters, or were they products of your awesome imagination?
I put a sliver of myself into every character I write. Beyond that, all of my characters of products of my imagination. :-)
Are you also into Greek mythology like Echo's mother?
I am fascinated by Greek mythology, but I didn't know much about it until I had research Pushing the Limits. I love reading/hearing about the stories, but I don't know nearly as much as Echo's mom did.

Hi Jeann,
Thank you for reading Pushing the Limits!
Which is your favourite couple that you have written about?
They all have a special place in my heart, but I absolutely loved writing Isaiah and Rachel. Something about them just gave me warm fuzzies to write. :-)
I read that you have experienced repressed memories before just like Echo has, what is this experience like?
Yes, I had a repressed memory when I was younger after being bitten by a dog. Not remembering something so huge is very confusing and somewhat scary. It's very hard to understand why your brain won't let you remember something that you have physical proof happened.

As a successful New Adult author, is it frustrating that the genre is being swamped by half baked books that are churned out only to glorify sex and unrealistic issues?

I love love loved Rachel and Isaiah together. They are so perfect together. I used to want Beth/Isaiah together but Rachel/Isaiah were way better than Beth/Isaiah. Isaiah was so adorable with Rachel. I love the Valentines Day letter but hate that Isaiah sometimes doesn't think he is good enough for Rachel when he is amazing.

Does Rachel's family no that Abby and Isaiah are friends. I know they suspect that she is not "private school Abby"?

Hi Lola,
Did you know this was going to be a series when you wrote the first book?
No. I wrote Pushing the Limits purely as a stand alone and never thought of continuing the series. When I sold to my publisher, they approached me about continuing the series with secondary characters and I jumped on the idea.
What do you like about writing a series like this where each book has a different main character, but other characters still make an appearance?
I love that I get to stay in the same universe, but then I get to explore new characters and plot ideas. It's a really great experience.

Hi Erin,
Are there going to be any more books in the Pushing the Limits companion series after Take Me On?
You have no idea how badly I'd love to answer that question, but right now I'm not able to. Just stay tuned. :-)
Would you ever write a direct sequel to any of the books in that series?
I am seriously considering it.
When is your new series coming out?
My publisher hasn't given me an exact date yet, but right now it's looking like springish 2015.
Who's your favorite author that you've met?
Gena Showalter
What's surprised you the most about being an author?
I had no idea I would spend so much time on social media. It's not a bad thing, but it does keep me busy. :-)

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?"
Hi Seth!
Thank you for reading my books!
If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
That's a great question and I'm not sure how to answer it. My all time favorite books are The Stand by Stephen King and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I wouldn't want to be the person to have wrote them though because then they wouldn't have been the same.
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Read a lot. Write a lot. Join a critique group. I'm also a huge fan of studying the craft of writing. I took online classes by Margie Lawson and that was a huge help for me in my writing. I also love the book Anatomy of Story, 22 Steps to Master Storytelling.
I hope this helps!

EVERY CHARACTER IN YOUR BOOKS HAVE A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT PERSONALITY, WITH WHICH CHARACTER CAN YOU RELATE YOURSELF WITH?"
Hi DiQu91,
Where do you get your inspiration for the stories?
I take pieces of myself and put it in the stories. I also sometimes experiences I've been through and twist them up so it's not my history anymore, but something I can use for a story.
I also glean a lot of inspiration from everyday life. The most random things in every day life help me in my stories.
Every character in your books have a unique and different personality, with which character can you relate yourself with?
I can relate to all of them since I put a small shred of myself in every character. The one I can emotionally relate to the most is Beth.

Hi Dre,
If Echo and Noah's story becomes a movie, who would play their characters?
I'll be honest, I don't know. But I love hearing who my readers think should play them.
If you can dine with any of your favorite authors, who would it be and where will you go?
I would love to meet Stephen King and S.E. Hinton. They are my all time favorite authors. As for where, that really doesn't matter to me as long as I got a chance to meet them.
Would you consider writing a sci-fi dystopian novel?
I would love to write a dystopian novel someday.

Hi Kendielicious,
Aside from West, will Rachel's older brothers have their own books in the Pushing the Limits series in the future?
I hope so. I would really love to write Ethan's story. I hope I'll get the opportunity to.

Hi Lauren,
I'm having a blast with the questions!
What would be on the soundtrack of Pushing the Limits and Dare You To?
Here is the playlist for PTL: http://www.katielmcgarry.com/page/Pus...
And here is the playlist for DYT: http://www.katielmcgarry.com/page/Dar...
I'm very inspired by music.

Hi Courtney!
Thank you so much for reading my books!
I was wondering what your favorite moment as an author is?
I love meeting people who have read my book. That has been truly some of the best moments of my life.
Who are the cover models on any of your books?
I have no idea, but I think they are all amazing.
And which do you prefer Abby & Logan or Abby & Ethan!!!!
To be honest, I don't know. I think Abby and Logan would be explosive together. Explosive good, explosive bad, or a little of both I don't know.
Abby and Ethan definitely have a fun, flirtatious chemistry on the page that I didn't expect.
I'm really hoping that I'll be able to continue the series and I'll be forced to make a decision.

Hi Dre,
Bring the questions on! This is fun!
For the first quarter of this year, what is the most amazing thing that happened to you so far?
I've watched my children face some huge obstacles and have watched them tackle them with class and grace. Those have been some amazing moments for me.
What do you think about the #Selfie trend? Have you taken selfies? If yes, can you share one with us?
I'll be honest, I haven't thought much about it. Nope, I have never taken a selfie of myself. Some of you are going to find this hard to believe, but I own a very old cell that doesn't do anything besides accept calls. I only recently started to text over the past year, but ask people not to text me as I don't check my cell often.
I'm just not very technology savvy.
A lot of members here are dog lovers (or have pets). Do you have any? What are they and their names? Can you share a photo?
Unfortunately, I don't have a dog. My husband is highly allergic to them. We do have a cat and a guinea pig. I do have pictures, but someone would have to tell me how to upload them in a comment. :-)

Hi Tatis,
Which relationship of all the stories you have written if you favorite and why?
Of all the relationships in the stories I have written, Beth and Ryan are my favorite as their story resembles the love story between me and my husband.
Who is your favorite character?
Abby from Crash Into You and Take Me On :-)
Have you ever put values that resemble yourself in any of your characters?
Yes. I'm often very loyal to the people I consider family (this can be nonblood related) and I put that value in some of my characters.

What was the hardest part to write in Pushing the limits series?"
Hi Hawazen,
What was the hardest part to write in Pushing the limits series?
The emotional dark moments in the books. I love my characters and hate to hurt them, but it is often necessary in telling their story. It breaks my heart to break their heart. Writing Isaiah in Dare You To broke me to pieces.

Hi Vicki,
Thank you so much for having me. This has been an honor.
In Pushing the Limits Echo's relationship with her mother, or lack of, was so disturbing. Did you ever consider having them become closer mother and daughter?
Echo and her mother are always going to have a very complicated relationship. I do see them trying to form some bridges, but it is always going to be hard for both of them.
In Dare to You I was SO angry with Beth's mother and the level of dysfunction! She too had a horrible mother/daughter relationship. I see terrible mothers in a lot of YA books. Do you think this reflects on our society as a whole, or do you think these dysfunctional relationships especially between mothers and daughters are developed from the author's own experiences or some other reason?
I'm not sure about why other authors write dysfunctional relationships between mother/daughters, but I will answer the question on my behalf. I don't specifically pick on the relationship between mother/daughter. Echo has a very difficult relationship with her father and Ryan has an awful relationship with his father as well.
For me, part of growing up is the realization that parents are not super heroes. That they are human and can, have, and will continue to make mistakes. Beth always hoped that her mother would chose her over her addictions and it is a slap in the face to Beth to realize that her mother has no intentions of changing. That is Beth's growing up moment--that she can't help people who don't want to be helped.
I never set out to write a parent/child dysfunctional relationship as much as I set out to write a story about a teenager making that transition to adulthood.
I hope this answered your question. :-)

In Pushing the Limits, was Mrs. Collins based upon someone (or a conglomerate) of a teacher, mentor, etc you actually had at some point in your life? It seems like she was just this amazing mentor, and I think she was a large reason I favor the first book.

Hi Bonny Bon Bon,
When you started writing each book did you know how each would end and was there any part that came as a complete surprise to even you? If so which book and part?
I generally know the ending of each book before I start writing it. Pushing the Limits and Dare You To's endings happened how I thought they would. The endings for Crash Into You and Take Me On shocked me.
Yes, in every book, there is a twist I never saw coming until it happened. As for an example...if you have not read Pushing the Limits, do not read. This may be a spoiler. I'm giving you the chance now to not read....
In my plotted version of the book, Noah was supposed to break up with Echo, but I couldn't get him to do it. He refused to break her heart. I ended up having to tear out 20,000 words because of his refusal and replot a portion of the book.

Hi Phaedra,
I'm not sure, but I hope it will be soon. :-)

What is your favorite book? Favorite autor?"
Hi Phaedra,
When did you become a writer? Was it your dream?
I have always formed stories in my head for as long as I can remember, but I didn't start writing until about 6 years ago. I never wrote before that because I didn't believe that I was good enough to do it. I stopped listening to my inner critic and wrote my first full length story at 33 years of age.
What is your favorite book? Favorite autor?
My favorite author and books are:
Stephen King's The Stand
S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders

Hi Nardie,
Is some of the stories you wrote from experience or is it just other people stories that inspire you?
I take experiences and emotions fro my own life, twist them up and then create something new out of it. I do get inspired from things that I see, but I try to make it a point to not write about people I know.

Hi Justine,
Being an author is my dream job. I often can't believe that this is actually happening to me. :-)

Hi Beatrice,
If you are going to write another book, would you venture out in a different genre? If so, what would it be?
Right now, I'm sticking with realistic contemporary as that's what I'm contracted for, but someday I would love to write a dystopian.
Which do you prefer, a Good guy-Bad Girl love story or Bad Boy-Good Girl love story, why? Both. I loved writing Echo and Noah equally as much as I loved writing Beth and Ryan. :-)

Hi The Cover Contessa,
I just got this question a few days ago and I remember it making me pause because the answer hit me so hard.
I wish I could stop myself from throwing out every note my best friend had given me. I thought it was silly to keep them because we would have so many years together. I was wrong. My best friend died several months after I threw them out. I'm very sad I don't have them anymore.

Hi again!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hmmm. I don't know. I've learned to stop guessing about stuff like that because I've never ended up like I thought. My husband didn't even know that I liked to write stories when we got married so neither of us ever imagined me becoming a published author. Life is a roller coaster with bends that prevents us from seeing what's ahead. I've learned to enjoy the ride.

Hi again!
If you could meet 3 of the most famous people in the world, who would they be and why?
I would love to meet S.E. Hinton, Stephen King, and Eminem. S.E Hinton and Stephen King are my favorite authors and Eminem is one of my favorite musicians.

Hi Cindy,
What was the hardest part of writing for you? The characters? The plot? Getting published?
Honestly, the hardest part of writing for me is finding a balance between my home life, the business part of writing, and the actual writing. There are never enogh hours in the day for me. :-)

Hi Courtney,
I love this question. The short answer: I do see them happy. Someday, I would love to write some type of short to show them together again in 10 years. I do know everything that happens to them, but I keep it to myself to prevent spoilers for any possible future books.
If I ever did write it, it would totally be fluff and something that would make me smile, but maybe readers would like it too. Who knows? :-)

Hi C.K.,
Will Abby be getting a story and if so have you figured out who will be her guy in the story? You asked fans on Facebbook who they would want her with and I really want Abby to have a story with Ethan or Logan. She seemed to like them both. The Abby/Ethan scenes were funny.
I would love to write Abby's story and hope that I'll get the opportunity to someday. I'm not sure who she would be with. As I said in an earlier response, her and Logan would be explosive together, but her and Ethan had a fun flirtatious relationship on the page. I really am hoping that someday I'll have to make the difficult choice.

What can you find yourself doing on a Saturday morning?
Are there any contemporary romance books (other than your own, haha) that you could recommend while I wait for Take Me On to be published? :)

Hi C.K.,
If Abby doesn't end up with Ethan or Logan will you still consider writing a story for them. I think Ethan deserves a story too since Rachel and West have stories. Plus i'd love to see more of their twin dynamic (Thank you for having both twins alive in the story. It seems like a theme in many young/new adults to kill off a twin which I find sad).
If I do get to continue the series, I would definitely love to write Ethan and Logan. I have boy/girl twins so it would be difficult for me to kill one off. I see the bond that's between my children and it is something I don't think most of us can understand.

Hi C.K.,
****Spoiler for those who haven't read Crash into You****
Will Isaiah ever get in contact with his fathers family and would you ever consider writing like a scene or short story where he meets them? I think they would be happy to know that Isaiah exists because it would be a piece of his father.
Yes, I have considered this, but right now I'm focusing on my contracted projects.
I think it would be really nice if Isaiah could get in contact with his foster Dad because he looked up to him so much and stayed on a good path in part because of him. I wondered if he maybe kept tabs on Isaiah since his friends own the autoshop where Isaiah works.
I'm not sure what the future will hold, but both of these suggestions are things I've thought of if I ever get a chance to continue his story. Isaiah is such a complex character and I loved writing him.

Will there be a lot ..."
Hi C.K.,
Will there be any awkward dinner scenes with Isaiah, Abby and Rachels family in West's story? I'd love to see an awkard dinner scene or something with Isaiah and the brothers.
Will there be a lot of Isaiah in this story or only a scene or two. I just love Isaiah and hope to see scenes with Isaiah and Rachel.
I love this question. There is a moment that's close to this in Take Me On, but I'm scared to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything.
Isaiah and Rachel do make appearances in the book, but I'm not sure how many. Rachel is a major plot device to West as he feels like he failed her because of her accident and Isaiah and West have a lot of anger between them to work out.

Hi C.K.,
I can't wait to read Red at Night and Take Me On. I really like the Red at Night cover and think it is neat that they incorporated the purple hair on the cover. You mentioned that Red at Night was very special to you. Was the story inspired by something in real life?
I can't wait for you to read Red and Night and Take Me On. I also love the Red at Night cover!
The moment I was asked to write a novella for the More than Words program for Harlequin, I was very honored. The character Stella immediately popped on the page and within a few scenes I was heartbroken. She was a character I wish I could have written a full length novel for. She is very raw and very spunky and just someone I came to adore.
She faces circumstances that unfortunately a lot of my friends faced when they were teenagers. It's very heartbreaking and a story that I'm glad is being told.

Hi Beatrice,
I forgot to answer one:
If you are going to have an opportunity to change an ending of a book, which book will it be?
I'm thrilled with the endings of all my books. I have a tendency to agonize over the endings as I'm writing the book so I have plenty of time to figure out what I want for each character when I type: the end.

As a successful New Adult author, is it frustrating that the genre is being swamped by half baked books that are churned out only to glorify sex and unrealistic issues?"
Hi Kelly,
Thank you for reading my books!
Did you know that when I began writing 6 years ago, I didn't know that New Adult existed? I sold Pushing the Limits as a mature Young Adult novel and that's how we continue to market it. There are quite a few people who call it New Adult and I’ve been thrilled that the story seems to speak to readers of both genres.
My books deal with the younger end of the spectrum for New Adult and they deal with very raw, realistic circumstances. At the same time, my books deal with the older end of YA and don't shy away from experiences that teenagers face. My books sort of straddle the line. To be honest, when I write, I never focus on the question "What type of book is this?" as much as I focus on telling my characters' stories correctly.
One thing I am reminded of over and over, both as an author and as a reader, is that taste in books varies from person to person. Actually, nothing reinforces this for me more than being a mom has! In an answer above, I talked about having twins: two people born on the same day with the same mom (me) and dad. Even though there are things that they both like, when it comes to reading, you can't get much more different than their preferences. Through them I've learned to appreciate the different perspectives individual readers bring to any given book.

Hi C.K.,
When I read Crash into You, I was a little surprised that West was the first brother to kind of come around or at least tolerate Rachel/Isaiah together. Rachel mentioned that West/Isaiah made a compromise? Do you see some similarities between West and Isaiah?
You have no idea how I'm dying to answer this question, but if I do, I will be spoiling Take Me On. All of this will be answered when Take Me On releases on May 27th!

Hi C.K.,
Does Rachel's family no that Abby and Isaiah are friends. I know they suspect that she is not "private school Abby"?
This is also a subject that is tackled in Take Me On and if I answer I could possibly spoil the story. I left some questions with where Rachel stood with her family open knowing that I would be tackling a lot of those subjects in West's book. I'm very excited for you to read it.

Hi Alana,
In Pushing the Limits, was Mrs. Collins based upon someone (or a conglomerate) of a teacher, mentor, etc you actually had at some point in your life?
Mrs. Collins is purely a fictional character, but I will say that she was created from several key adults that were in my life when I was a teenager. If it weren't for them, I would not be the person I am today.
