"No, not adrenaline." she said as she peered over at him. "My parents go alone sometimes to relive good memories of their love. I just like the premise of how they kept their connection after all these years."Xia's ear twitched softly as she heard him start to sing. She peered up at him with a timid glance. Was he trying to calm her down? she blinked softly as she felt herself relax slightly. Not wholely, no not with the trail still around them.
Leo looked around with a soft chuckle. "This is some place to fall in love in." He looked back. "Can't really tell if we're actually making progress or just getting more lost in this thing."Echo pointed out an animatronic that had popped out but she hadn't noticed. "See? No big deal, it's fake" he said once the song ended, tapping the robot. He glanced down at her before he kept walking. "Just ignore the rest of them."
"That's what makes it fun." She smiled as she looked at him. "The adventure is better than the destination, right" she gleamed slightly before jumping at a spider animatronic.Xia flinched as the animatronic was pointed out. Again with pointing out that it was fake. Not going to work. she tried everything and still was scared stiff with this stuff. She just kept her face in his side to keep from seeing what was out there.
Leo looked over at her before chuckling softly. "I suppose that's true. But it also depends on what kind of adventure. Sometimes the destination makes the adventure worthwhile" he said with a shrug. He smirked a bit when he heard a scream. "That was definitely Taylor."Echo sighed when she flinched regardless. "Even knowing it's fake you get scared." He looked down at her before he reached over and picked her up, carrying her like a princess. "We'll get nowhere if we stop at everything you flinch at." He picked up his pace since she wasn't slowing them down now. He looked around, trying to figure out where the exit was. Surely no one had gotten out yet since he could still hear a whole bunch of screaming, or that could just be the animatronics screaming.
Nina smiled as more screams sounded. "I still laugh when others scream like little girls, mainly boys." she snickered. "Never really heard Xia scream though." she said as she wondered how those two were doing. "Normally she squeaks and that's it."Xia gasped softly as she was picked up bridal style. Her arms wrapped around his neck and hide her face in the crook of his neck. She trembled softly as screams and howls filled the air, some human some from the machines around them.
Leo chuckled a bit before looking over at her, seeming a bit amused. "You kind of sound like a sadist if you say that." He looked ahead. "You really care about Xia, huh?" He flinched when an animatronic suddenly jumped out in front of them.Echo blushed faintly when she hurried her face in his neck. He glanced down at her but continue forward anyway. "Out of all the things you could be scared of, your scared of robots."
Nina jumped at the animatronic. "Well yeah, she was the first friend i made after I moved out of the family estate. Well the first real one that wasn't after the family name or after the money in my bank account, even if she keeps in so much." She looked up at Leo. "She's the sister i never had."Xia shook her head. "Horror and any thing scary, not just robots." She murmured softly, her voice was quiet and a bit strained. she jumped as another animatronic jumped out and growled.
Leo walks around the animatronic. "There really is no relaxing in this place." He looked over at her. "Sisters huh? You guys sure do argue like sisters. Makes sense." He looked ahead again. "Why acting?" he asked curiously.Echo glanced down at her. "Oh? So you do have a voice? I thought you'd gone mute" he commented, walking around the animatronic, unfazed by it. "If horror scares you why'd you agree to partake in the trails? Course I supposed Piffy wouldn't have allowed that."
"Yeah, well acting was something that facinated me to no end. I would often repeat what my favorite characters and more and more I became believable. The staff thought I was suicidal for three weeks before I explained it was parts from my favorite movie at the time." She giggle. "As I grew, I kinda like the reactions people had when they thought I was saying the truth.""Bribery on Nina's part." Xia murmured as she nuzzled into him a bit more. To her it was soothing, it helped her speak a bit more. she still trembled, yes, but at least she managed to speak. "Crepes, lots of crepes."
"You like tricking people then? I'm assuming you prank people all the time? Seeing as how you can trick people into thinking you're serious." He put his hands in his pockets as he looked around. He felt like they were going deeper in instead of walking out. Unless the exit was towards the deeper end? Echo blushed more when she pressed even closer to him. He averted his gaze from her, shifting her a bit in his arms. He wasn't used to someone being this close at all and he wasn't sure how comfortable he was with it but he couldn't very well drop her... Not to mention they'd probably be the last ones out if he let her walk. "How good can crepes be that you agreed to go on a trail like this?"
"Yeah, me and my little brother loved to play pranks when we were little. Grew out of that faze with him but I still prank Xia every now and then." She paused slightly. "would do it more if she didn't add to the prank in her own way." She sighed softly. "oh, we are going deeper, but that's how all the trails are.""Mouth watering vanilla cream filled cherry crepe cakes topped with freshly whipped cream on the topped with a mint sprig at the top." She murmured as she held onto him. the forest seemed a bit more pleasant at the moment.
Leo chuckled softly. "Pranking roommates. Sounds like when me and Neil started living together." He looked down at the floor. "Fake blood?" It definitely was since it didn't smell real."Doesn't really sound all that great" he commented. He hadn't really had many sweets, never had a desire to indulge really. He looked around, noticing that the area they were in was awfully quiet. Probably to make it worse when something jumped out later.
"Yup. Sugar and dye." She said as she looked at the spots that coated the ground and some of the tree bark. "Added with something to help the rain dissolve it."It's yummy." She murmured as she peered up at Echo, feeling brave enough to see into the darkness around them. Unease creeped into her senses but she clutched his clothes a bit more. "you'll just have to try it."
Leo shook his head a bit. "Sure put a lot of time into small details like this. You come here every year?" He stepped over some broken twigs.Echo glanced down at her grip when he felt her clutch more of his clothes. He looked back up at her face to see her looking around. He leaned over and blew by her ear, wondering if she'd freak out.
"Well yeah, but not so much with my family so much." She said. "I would go on the trail still but as some of the staff to join the fun." She chuckled softly. "They like it as much as I do. Even told me they go through the trails when we weren't there to 'test' it out."Xia was cautious of the world around her and when breath hit her ear, she squeaked before holding her ears. She hid her face into his chest to get away from what had done that, not figuring that Echo might be messing with her.
Leo raised an eyebrow at her. "In their free time? Seriously?" He shook his head. "You're surrounded by a bunch of interesting people." He jumped back when something jumped from the side. "Jeez."Echo couldnt hold in the chuckle after she squeaked and hid herself again. "You really do get scared from anything, huh?"
"Yeah, that's what happens when one stays without their high strung parents." she chuckled as Leo jumped away from one of the harmless creatures that roamed on the trails. "Yeah, that bunny seemed really vicious." she snickered.Xia blushed as she heard him. She looked at him with a glare as her face remained flush with embarrassment. "Hey, that was uncalled for." She huffed as she pulled at his cheek lightly.
Leo rolled his eyes when she snickered. "Have you seen Piffy?" he countered, not bothering to defend the fact that he had gotten startled.Echo made a face when she pulled at his cheek. "Quit it" he complained. "Not my fault you freak out over nothing."
"She's probably at the exit judging. I don't think she went through the trails." She said as she lead the way down a familiar path to the exit. "I did advise not to go alone.""I can't help it, I'm a quarter house cat." She puffed as she scowled at him. She was half tempted to pull at his ears, but refrained from the childish nature. the fact she was a house cat was weird considering her mother was a tiger, oh well.
"Not to go alone through the trials? Why? You seem like you'd go through this thing on your own" he commented before looking around. "Did you memorize this place?""Not all house cats are scared of everything" he pointed out. He assumed at least. He didn't associate much with house cats, being a wild panther and all.
"This isn't something you want to go alone with. joking afterward is the best experience ever. Even some of the denials." Nina said as she walked down a familiar path. "not really, Just something familiar.""Most, if not all, house cats are skittish of some things. As I like the water, i hate horror." Xia stated as she fiddled with his ears to see what he would do.
Leo eyed her. "So you've never shrieked or screamed in this place?" he wondered. Sure she'd gotten startled but she didn't seem freaked out at all.Echo jerked his head away from her when she touched his ears. He narrowed his eyes at her, his ears moving back like a hissing cat would do. "I will drop you" he threatened.
"When I was little yes." she said as she looked out into the darkness. "but that was when I was first introduced into horror. now I love them and only jump at parts.""It was only fair." She said as she poked at his cheek, not even scared of Echo. "You messed with my ears and i messed with yours. It's not like I ripped them off, or handled them roughly." she stated boldly before squeaking and hiding as an animatronic scared her.
"Hmm, that's boring. Could have made fun of you" he joked lightly. He shrugged a bit before looking around. He flinched slightly when another jumped out in front. "How many of these are there anyway?""Doesn't mean you can touch them. Barely did anything to yours anyway" he muttered before looking ahead, stopping short of bumping into an animatronic. He stepped over it before he kept walking. He was sure they weren't walking in circles but he definitely couldn't tell if the exit was getting any closer.
"I do the same back." she chuckled as she saw him flinch. "A lot, but we're almost out." she said as she stretched, "Another mile or so." she thought back to some of the trails. "Oh, i think Echo and Xia got the longest trail, the one my parents go on."She nuzzled into him as he walked. Despite Echo's attitude and gruff meen, he wasn't all bad. She just wanted out of the trails to get to her treat at the end like Nina promised.
"At least it would be even. Seems a bit one sided right now" he remarked. He looked over at her when she said Xia and Echo might have gotten the longest one. "Did you do that on purpose?"Echo sighed when she got closer again. He stopped and looked down to see one had grabbed his leg. He rolled his eyes before setting her down then bent over to pry the robot's hand open. "Annoying" he muttered. There were way too many of those things.
"No, they chose that route on their own." She said as she looked at him. "but if they don't make it back anytime soon, there is a cabin on that route. Nothing in there is booby-trapped."Xia fiddled with one of her shurikin as she waited for him to pick her up again. Her legs wobbled slightly as she stood.
Leo raised an eyebrow at her. "They wouldn't stay out the whole night. Xia looks like she'd faint if they slept the night surrounded by horror."Echo looked over at her after he got his leg free. "You really can't stand this stuff huh?" He reached over and gently picked her up again. "You're lucky you walk slow." It was the only reason he was carrying her.
"If they did, she knows that everything shuts off when morning comes." She said as she looked at him. "It's not like they are going to get hurt out here. there are camera's everywhere out here and outside the cabin."Xia nodded as she was picked up. Yeah she hated this with a passion. she nuzzled into him as he started to walk again. "Be lucky that I'm scared, that's not something to be lucky about." She murmured against his neck.
"Which means Piffy is probably watching everyone walk through this thing. Or least Casey would" he noted. He shrugged. "They still have no reason to stay there.""Be lucky I'm willing to carry you" he corrected. "I could just leave you behind" he said simply. He raised an eyebrow when he spotted a cabin in the distance after a few minutes. "Whys that there" he muttered.
"Right, but they will be walking all night to make it back to the manner and will be tired from the 20 to 25 mile walk." She said, "When I put up the flags for the routes, it was only the beginning and ending mile." "And piffy would have yelled at you." She muttered as she looked to the questioned area. "oh god, this is the longest trail...." she whispered before clutching onto Echo a bit tighter.
"Whos on the shortest one then?" he asked curiously. He felt like the screams had gone down some."I can live with that" he said simply. He looked down at her when she tightened her grip. "Longest trail? Because there's a cabin here?"
"The two that when first, they had the shortest and easiest trail." Nina siad as she looked at one of her sutras. "It's funny that they are screaming like little girls on the easiest trail here.""Nina said the one with the cabin is the longest. That it was the trail her parents used." She said as she was starting to dread the road ahead more than anything.
Leo shook his head. "Yeah well unlike Neil, Marcus gets scared over pretty much anything. You can imagine he grew up being pranked by Neil a lot." He shrugged. "Peter on the other hand I'm nawt sure of."Echo paused by the cabin when they reached it, looking it over. "Exactly how long is the longest trail?"
"Poor kid." She said as she peeked over at Leo. "What was your childhood like?""Nina walked it during the day, about 20 miles." she murmured as she looked at the cabin with weary eyes. she wasn't sure what to expect for this place other than it was someplace away from the horror trail.
Leo shrugged. "Eh, I think he enjoys spending time with his brother though." He looked over at her when she asked about his childhood. He looked ahead, silent for a moment. "Childhood, huh? Well, let's see... I come from a family of doctors so I pretty much studied my whole life. Only child growing up so I didn't really do much else. Parents were working a lot so didn't spend much time with them either. A pretty boring one I guess.""Why is this thing so damn long..." he muttered. "Can't we just walk back the way we came? Seems like a faster way to get out." There was no way they were even half way done at this point. He looked down at her before raising an eyebrow. "What's with your face?"
"Doctors... Huh. Technology vs Doctor. Guess I had it a bit worse. I still know how to make my own computer and phone out of spare and used parts." She said as she looked at him. "You had to learn about medical procegers and I had to learn the many things in Technology, entertainment to medical." She siad as she shrugged. "Got to help with setting this trail up a little." She said. "Any way both me and my brother were taught this way for a contingency plan."Xia shook her head. She didn't want to be called a scaredy-cat even though she was one at the moment. Her eyes closed and ignored his question about her expression.
Leo looked over at her. "Don't think having people's live depend on whether you can perform the surgery correctly is exactly easy." He looked ahead. "Course it's not really a competition. Being a doctor isn't a focus so don't really think about it."Echo eyed her for a moment before he starting walking again, moving past the cabinet. "Moving on then" he stated. They'd have to get a move on if they were going to get of this place any time soon.
"True, but your family probably has a distinct field where as my family's company does a bit of everything." she siad as she looked at him. "I do like being tech savvy in some places but acting is more of my focus." She added with a smile. "Fun, but busy."She clung to Echo in hopes to fall asleep soon. the attempts were foiled with three different animatronics pouncing out at them, scaring her awake for a bit longer.Fainting seemed nice but she never real gotten that scared before.
Leo shook his head. "No. Every part of my family takes part in different kinds of medicine. It's a big family of medicine. My parents prefer surgery though." He looked over at her. "Yes, pranking people for a living must have your hands full" he teased lightly.Echo sighed a bit when she got scared yet again. He looked down at her, shaking her a bit. "Hey, you're not allowed to fall asleep. I'm not carrying dead weight for 15 or so more miles."
"it has marits." She snickered. "I get laughs about it and teasing rights if it scares someone." She puffed as she pushed at his arm lightly. "And it's not pranking, it's tricking."She grumbled when she was shaken a bit. "I don't want to be scared every five seconds, sleeping is the only way i can get away from it." she whimpered as she hid her face in his chest.
Leo smiled a hit. "Pranking, tricking. Who's to tell the difference?" he shrugged, obviously messing with her. "Yeah well I also can't carry you the rest of the way, especially if you're asleep" he pointed out. Not like he didn't get tired himself as well.
"obiviously not you." She joked back with a grin. She smiled and leaned against leo slightly."then go back to the cabin, We'll walk back in the morning." She puffed as she like the idea very much. she didn't know if there were any tricks in there but it was better then being scared the entire way out.
Leo rolled his eyes. "Pretty sure other people have a hard time too" he argued. "Especially if you do both often." He glanced over at her when she leaned against him, not saying anything.Echo sighed deeply before going back. "All because you can't just stay awake" he muttered. He walked up to the cabin, looking at the porch before walking up to the front door. He shifted her in his arms before turning the knob and walking in. He glanced around, letting the door close behind him. He set her down since he didn't need to carry her anymore.
"I guess so, but I usually trick more than prank." She siad as she snickered. Xia wobbled to the bed and sat down with a sigh of her own. She didn't see any traps or anything so this should be fine. She curled up with a pillow and leaned against the wall.
"Uh huh. You and Neil would probably get along if you didn't butt heads so much" he commented. "You just target Xia specifically for fun or you out to trick everyone?"Echo looked over at her before walking over to the couch and laying back with a soft sigh. He would have preferred to keep walking or even run through the rest but Piffy would definitely had a fit if he left Xia behind. He could still hear a few animatronics going off in the distance outside. Everyone else was probably out or almost out by now.
"The laughing idiot? Nah, he's more childish than I am and is like a little brother to me. Sure we could get along but the fact is that we would argue and prank each other more than anything else." She stated the truth. There wasn't any feelings of love between her and Neil, there never will. "As for Xia, we don't prank eachother often and she is the only one to realize when I am acting. The most of the acting I have done was for my waitressing job before this opportunity."Xia slowly fell asleep as she leaned against the wall. Her mind was blank for the most part, but after a little while the working of the animatronics made memories bubble up. She was starting to become a bit restless as memories of the surgeries she undertook as she stayed at the lab with her mother. She started to mutter incoherently about some of it. The word hurts was one that could be made out.
Leo laughed softly. "Guess that's one name for him. The laughing idiot." He shook his head before looking over at her. "So Neil is like a little brother to you even though he's older? Guess how he acts doesn't help, huh?" He shrugged. "He has his mature moments." He flinched slightly and an animatronic suddenly came out screaming. "Acting while waitressing? How does that work?"Echo glanced over when he heard her murmured, not having fallen asleep yet. He wasn't used to sleeping somewhere unfamiliar, especially because of his past. He sat up and looked over at her to see her stirring and murmuring in her sleep. He sighed softly. Knowing her, she was probably having a nightmare after everything she saw on the trail. He reluctantly got up and walked over to her. He reached over and gently shook her shoulder. "Hey, wake up." It'd be annoying if she muttered he whole night.
Echo looked down at her again before sighing softly. They wouldn't be getting out of here any time soon at the rate they were going. She need some kind of distraction and only one thing came to mind at the moment. Even if it didn't completely distract her, hopefully it'd help move them along a bit faster. He hesitated before softly singing a calming melody.
