Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11205 comments 30.8 - Delicious Dee's task: Read ‘Em Again

One of the things I love about participating in the SRC is that each season I normally discover one or two (if not more) authors that I want to try more of their books. But it usually seems that I never go back and read anything more by them, either I get distracted, or I can’t figure out how to fit them into a task. So for this task, you’ll get to try ‘em again.

For this task you will read 2 books by 2 different authors, you can only have read ONE previous book by each author. The previous books you read MUST have been written by a single author (either fiction or non-fiction) - authors that contributed to anthologies, essay collections, or similar do not count).

If you have participated in 2 or more seasons of the SRC, you must pick authors from 2 different previous seasons; if you have only participated in one season then both authors must come from that season; if this is your first season or you have no qualifying books, pick 2 authors that you have previously read only ONE book by each author prior to the start of the Spring Challenge.

If you have participated in the SRC before, you must choose authors of books that you claimed for points in the previous season(s).

Required:Include in your post, the previous book you read by the author and the season that you read it.

Susan A | 1665 comments I read The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles 2 seasons ago, new to me author. Then I read Interlude with Tattoos, a 14 page short, which is #1.5 of the series. I have read nothing else by this author.

Since that was a short, is this author still eligible for me?

I love this task! I am relieved that I kept my spreadsheet from previous seasons.

message 6: by Julie (new)

Julie Hi Dee! What a great idea for a task.....

Before I figure out which books to add to my reading plan, I want to make sure I understand the task. Winter 2013 was the first time I participated in the SRC. During the challenge, I read four new-to-me authors. So for your Spring task, I just need to pick two of those authors & read another book by them, correct???

message 7: by Dee (last edited Feb 19, 2014 01:15AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Yep that's correct julie - basically by the 2 authors you want to read more of

Unfortunately since you did read something else, even a shorty, they no longer work - hopefully you can find something else

Yes, I have other things (and even another place to put the bok I had in mind) Thanks!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments I just want to say thanks for this task! My TBR grows and grows because of new authors I find and I can get at least two of them read!

message 11: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments I'm the same way Karen ;) I wanted it easy yet with a twist

Hi, Dee. I returned to the SRC group in Winter 2013. Before that I participated in at least a couple of previous seasons - but I took a break for several seasons in between, and I don't think I have my old spreadsheets around anymore. May I spare myself the pain of attempting to reconstruct what on earth I read several years ago by going through the old task threads, and just treat this task as if I started in Winter 2013? Pretty please?

message 14: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Sorry Stacey :( going to say no but you can pull up your history in the group by going to members, finding yuself and clicking on number of comments

message 16: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 466 comments Dee, do they have to be authors of fiction? In reference to the line "The previous books you read MUST have been full-length novels". I read a lot of non-fiction by good authors I'd like to return to as well.

Thanks.

message 17: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Non-fiction is fine - I'll have kristi make a tweak

message 18: by Delmy (last edited Feb 19, 2014 09:28AM) (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) If i understand this correctly this is what i am going to read:

--> Spiralby Koji Suzuki which is the book #2 in the ring series and the second book i've ever read by Koji Suzuki, the first i read was Ring which i read for the winter 2014 challenge

--> In a Glass Darkly by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, the first book i've read by Le Fanu was Carmilla for the Fall 2013 challenge

Hope i did this right!
:)

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments Most of the books I read by authors that are new to me are ones I get to review. In addition most are the first book by a heretofore unpublished author. This gives me a big problem with your task. There are no other books by these authors. What do I do? A case in point from last fall's task by Ms. Anderson had a similar option( choose a book by an author that was new to you since Jan. 2013) and in going back through my records I found only one book that fit this description. Any suggestions?

message 23: by Dee (last edited Feb 19, 2014 12:56PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Just to clarify in the 50+ books in most seasons that you have read (since you've finished at least 2 seasons I can - there are NO 2 authors that you have only read 1 book of and have more than 1 book published...

Or no 2 authors you've read non SRC

Yes, the new authors are all ones that have published only one book, the one that I read for the reading challenge. Maybe that's not quite true. I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure if there are any there will be no choice. i.e. I'll have to pick from a very limited number of authors. I know it was true in the aforementioned situation.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 754 comments Dee, great task =)

Just to clarify, if I read X Author in the Fall Season and Author Y in the Winter Season. I can read another book by Authors X and Y.

But if I went ahead and read a 2nd book by Author X in the Fall season, then I have to find Author Z I read in the Fall season. Am I correct?

message 28: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Yeah - you aren't limited to specific seasons just only one book by author ;)

One way to find out is to look at your "read" list, sort it by author, and look for any author that's only listed once. Unless you read other books by that author prior to GR, that would give you a list of authors to check and see whether they've written anything else. The task doesn't require that the other book be written since then - it could be an earlier book.

message 32: by Coralie (new)

Coralie Not that I am at all short of options for this task, but would you count Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) as one book?

message 33: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Since it comprises 5 different books that were released at different times - going to say no sorry!

message 34: by Coralie (new)

Coralie No problem, I have about another hundred options.

ok I'll try that. I have read a lot of books prior to keeping track on Good Reads, but presumably they would be sufficiently old enough that they might not be classified as a reread. The problem here will be that I won't be able to reference a specific src season for when it was read

message 38: by Andy (new)

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments I may have read a book by Jon Talton a long time ago, but I have no record,Thus I'm going to read Powers of Arrest: A Cincinnati Casebook after having read The Pain Nurse: A Cincinnati Casebook in November 2012
and
The Exterminatorsafter having read Pest Control in Jan. 2013. I don't think I've read any others by him, just had a blow by blow description by my husband when he read most of Fitzhugh's booksI hope this is ok.

message 39: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Andy - if u haven't read any during SRC that work then any author who meets the rest of the requirements does

message 47: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Dee, 1 of the authors I read has a different series to what I originally read. Can I read 1 of those as long as I haven't read anything else by her?
