Sarah | 18550 comments You have some great books and series listed up there. Welcome to the challenge. Be prepared to have many more series started than killed :-) It seems to be a side affect of this challenge!

Hi Sarah! Thanks :)
Yes, I think it's a side effect of goodreads (or reading) in general. When I attack my TBR, it mysteriously grows.

You'll definitely find that in this group!

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Your Alice Quentin and Kate Daniels links don't work. I added a few. *sigh*

Caitlin (ct_hughes55) | 96 comments I think I just added The 5th Wave to my own series list. Seems like it could be reminiscent of The Road which I loved. I am starting this challenge late also (only last week) but I keep finding more things to try and squeeze in!

LOL - taming and controlling TBR lists? Like unicorns, such things are flights of fancy. :)

Also, I fixed my Alice Quentin and Kate Daniels links. Both are add-able.
*enables

Oh god.... The Road hurt (in a good way, but so bleak). I recently listened to a book called The Dog Stars that brought back memories of reading The Road.

Well, wouldn't you know it? Book 1 of Alice Quentin is already on my wishlist. And, I read the 1st book of Kate Daniels.

message 13: by Teanka (new)

Teanka Thanks to your first post I just realised I didn't add Imperial Radch series to my list. Just fixed it, thanks :) . I'm really looking forward to reading Ancillary Mercy, I've already preordered.

I also share some other series with you: Gilead, Expanse. Xenogenesis I already read, and loved it. Also, the Trade Pact Universe novels are on my TBR. I read another Julie E. Czerneda series, Species imperative, and enjoyed it.

Happy reading!

Thanks! I hope you enjoy it, the series has been good so far - although it's been some time since I've read the other two.

Now that's funny - you already had them! :) I liked the Alice Quentin book, it's got a crime-show feel to it and the main character is interesting without being too typical of a female lead.

I rarely sit and wait for books to be published (with so many books out there, I just don't pay attention) but Ancillary Mercy is one I'm keeping an eye out for.

I've not read anything else by Julie E. Czerneda, I may have to go seek out her other stuff next. I read the first in the Trade Pact series, A Thousand Words for Stranger, years ago and really loved it. I picked up the trilogy at a used book thing and re-read the first again because it'd been so long. I'm finding it mildly dated (90's scifi-ish) but still very entertaining.

message 18: by Colleen (last edited Jul 31, 2015 12:35PM) (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments My first book for this challenge!!!
I just finished The Gallows Bird (Patrik Hedström, #4) by Camilla Läckberg (Fjällbacka #4) which is a crime series set in a small town in Sweden. I didn't think it was as good as the previous books in the series, but it was enjoyable enough that I'll continue.

message 19: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I've got the first three books in that series, but I'm not sure when I'll get to them.

message 20: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I was on vacation and finished a few more serial books this past week:

Cut & Run (Cut & Run, #1) by Abigail Roux (Cut & Run #1) yes, adding a new series to my list already *sigh

Another Man's Moccasins (Walt Longmire, #4) by Craig Johnson (Walt Longmire #4)

Wicked Charms (Lizzy & Diesel, #3) by Janet Evanovich (Lizzy & Diesel #3)

Adulthood Rites (Xenogenesis, #2) by Octavia E. Butler (Xenogenesis #2)

I killed a series with Wicked Charms, so now just need get to 100 points to make it to level one - woo hoo!!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments You might think of killing off your Dublin Murder Squad and you will be there with the books you already read. :). Strategy is harder than reading the books!

Good point, I lent my copy so don't have it on hand or I would do that.

pfft - strategy. (LOL)

message 23: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL! Too bad about the book loan. Still lots of time. :)

message 24: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I've killed off another with To Trade the Stars (Trade Pact Universe, #3) by Julie E. Czerneda and started a new one with Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer . I think I'll make level 1 with another 5 pointer. :)

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Just a reminder, I'm going to need to see your completed levels with the series killed and books read. Like this.

You don't need to get all fancy with the check marks, but you do need to make it clear which books you read and which series you killed, so that I can see how you arrived at your score. It's kind of like being in school, isn't it? LOL!

Yup, I plan to list it out in an organized fashion once I've completed a level. Posting the books as I've read them helps remind me which ones I've read count for this challenge. Thanks for the example! :)

:) - yes, he seems to be enjoying his new role as a Disney Princess now.

message 32: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments Finished A Killing of Angels (Alice Quentin) by Kate Rhodes (Alice Quentin #2) and while it wasn't as good as the first in the series, Crossbones Yard, it was still a pretty solid mystery.

message 33: by Colleen (last edited Sep 03, 2015 05:50PM) (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I'm not one to read one series back to back, so am spreading it around. I doubt I'll be the most efficient at moving from one level to the next, but this challenge is helping me move a lot of my series forward.

I just read Persona Non Grata (Gaius Petreius Ruso, #3) by Ruth Downie (Gaius Petreius Ruso, #3) It'd been a long time since I'd read books 1 & 2, but it didn't take long to get reacquainted with characters. It was a fun read and I'd missed this series. Glad to come back to it.

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments Another week traveling and another chunk of books read...
Sticks & Stones (Cut & Run #2)
Sapphire Blue (Ruby Red #2)
Fish & Chips (Cut & Run #3)
The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave #1)

ETA: I'm currently reading Citadel (Languedoc #3) which will wrap up Level 2 for me. -- still reading this, but Emerald Green jumped ahead. whoops. ;)

message 36: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments FINALLY finished Citadel (Languedoc, #3) by Kate Mosse to kill off that trilogy. Unfortunately, I didn't like it nearly as much as the first two and found it more laborious than enjoyable.

message 37: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I'm half way into my level 3, I finished The Giver (new-to-me series) and 2 more in the Kate Daniels series, Magic Burns & Magic Strikes.
I took a break for some stand-alones, but hope to tackle some more series books over the next couple weeks.

message 38: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hang in there, Colleen. I am cheering you on! I read The Giver a few years ago, but I have not had a chance to look into the rest of the books in the series. I am not sure I have it on my list. I have heard some good things about Kate Daniels but there are so many series and so little time to visit them all. One thing for sure, we will all have enough series titles to last a life time by the end of the year.

message 39: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments Thanks, Cherie!
There are so many good series out there. It's comforting to know we'll never run out of reading material.

I think my current favorite series is the Walt Longmire series. I'm savor get it because it's just so dang good. Have you read it?

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I haven't read it, but I have the first one on my TBR pile.

Great job finishing Level 3!

message 42: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I have done what Sarah predicted and added more series than I've killed. I'm determined to inverse that before the end of the year.

I think level 4 is going to be a bunch of 5 pointers... but I'm making headway in some series.
Armed & Dangerous (Cut & Run #5)
Divergent because I needed a new series like a hole in the head
Stars & Stripes (Cut & Run #6) because despite the horrible cover art, the series is like crack.

I think I'll go kill off a couple trilogies.

Ancillary Mercy (Imperial Radch #3) - KILLED 30 + 5 points

Series Killed: 2
Books Read: 8 (so far, I'm consistent)
Total Points: 100

message 45: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments I've read Crocodile on the Sandbank and The Hidden Child. Neither a series killer. I seem to be on my same 8 book path for level 5.

message 46: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colls) | 114 comments Almost finished with Level 5. I killed the Gilead trilogy with Lila and have read Magic Bleeds, Ball & Chain, Gathering Blue, The Infinite Sea.

I'm currently reading Strange Country which is a series killer as well.

Enough of this 8 book approach, the next levels are all going to be about SPEED. Only one month to go!!
