Can you tell me what it is exactly???
From "curvy"

A rootbeer float is an ice cream soda where the soda is rootbeer (I would say root beer as two words). Root beer is a soft drink (soda) {made using some sort of root but I have no idea what}… similar to sasparilla I have been told.

I've read it for the first time in 11/22/63 and I've been wondering ever since. I've never seen it anywhere!

(Mmm root beer float. Little over half glass of root beer, no ice, dunk a big scoop of vanilla ice cream into it. It foams up and turns the whole drink creamy. Serve with straw and spoon)

Root beer floats still fairly common here in eastern Massachusetts. I am not a big root beer fan so I prefer milkshakes (particularly Friendly's coffee Fribbles!!)
