I'll be reading
It has Dog, Wing, Brother and then I can choose dream, wind, nudity, long hair and possibly Girl in red - have to ask Dawn about that one. May find an unusual name - we'll see.
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ wrote: "I'll ask Dawn, it's only mentioned in the book 6 times. It's referenced as place beyond the human world. ..."But in the book it is an actual "place", it may not be in our world, but it is a place. That sounds real to me. Sorry.
Fictional Place looks to be a difficult one! I'm going to start trying to figure out something for this early.
Week One: Dog & Wing
Love Bites by Lynsay Sands
Finished: 1/25
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
Thief: was hiding from a common thief. (p. 254)
Dog: it was rather like kicking a dog (p. 22)
Fictional Character (Dracula): "I vant to suck your blood, baby," she could just barely hear him say over the music, in a really bad Dracula impression. (p.300)
Mattress: Her gaze remained on the mattress (p. 95)
Wing: They had obviously taken her under their wing (p. 176)
I always thought the coroners had all the fun. Where can a girl sign up? I really loved the way this story was put together. You can get a real feel for them as they struggle to cope with the joys and frustrations of new love as they grow to know one another. Great book for a lonely rainy (or snowy) day or at least it was for me.
I started my book this morning, but I may have to change what my extra items are. Not sure if what I have for girl in red will work.

Review:
I would like to be able to give this whole series an extra star just for the sheer fact of it being different. The series features men and women in actual combat situations as they are a part of an active unit. Unfortunately sometimes the combat details bog down the story. But overall, the characters are real, the action feels very real and the story is fast paced and interesting.
Dog: p. 347 (No guard. No dog)
Grandmother: p. 30 (her fading grandmother)
Dream: p. 320 (She slept without dreams)
Flying Ship p. 2 (Black Hawk helicopter)
Wing: p. 113 (the tip of either wing)

I am 60% through my book and finding it harder to read than I thought. It skips around in time and between characters alot. I should be done with it tomorrow though.
Good morning all! I finished up my book last night. Will post my words and review (hopefully) by later tonight.
Good morning, Team!! WTG Angie!! I have been steadily collecting the books in that series after I mistakenly read one out of order. But I haven't gotten around to reading any more. It was intriguing.Have a great day everyone. We are doing great!!
Here is the review for my book and I will come back and edit with the items claimed after I get a response to my question on the item discussion thread.Week 1: Dog/Wing
by Khaled Hosseiniread 1/27/14 - 3.5 stars
I was a little disappointed with this book after the last ones. It was just too disjointed and jumped back and forth in time too much. The best parts of the book were the first chapter and the last chapter. The last chapter made me give it the extra 1.2 star because I was bawling through it.
I think it would have been a better book to have just followed the brother and sister for the book. It did not need the other chapters with the two doctors, the Afghan soldier and the uncle. The necessary parts of those chapters could have been brought out in different ways.
Items claimed:
hunter pg 196: "He loved to hunt."
dog pg 18: "...in Shadbagh would do to Pari's dog, Shuja-"
story pg 31: "Other times, he made up stories."
statue pg 224: "...personally commissioned a sculptor form Kabul to build the statue."
bonus-wing pg 300: "A pelican hovered over the blue-green water, its wings spread."

Review: this is the first in the Midnight Breeds series. We meet Lucan - the Gen one Leader of the Boston Breeds warriors and Gabrielle Maxwell - photographer. Gabrielle witnesses more than she is supposed to when she goes out to a club with her friends after her first gallery "showing". She witnesses a group of Rogue vamps going after a human male in the bar and then it continues outside where she 'photographs" them killing the human with her cell phone. Lucan watches her as he has been waiting for his opening to kill these Rogues.
Having just read the recently released A Touch of Midnight novella it was winderful to get back into this series. This was a re-read for me but I had forgotten much of the plot for this one as it was a few years ago. I enjoyed it just as much this time as the first time. I will admit that Gabrielle had a few TSTL moments - especially at the end and their was a couple of interesting twists near the end that I had forgotten all about. Of course Lucan had a few alpha/asshole-ish episodes as well. This was a fun introduction into the characters of this series. Yes - it is somewhat like the BDB series which I also love but different enough and intriguing enough on it's own that I'm excited to continue.
Dog p23 snapping like a pack of wild dogs
Wing p68 treatment rooms in what must have been the medical wing
Brother p103 his brothers hadn't been
Dream p42 "just a dream", he whispered.
Mattress p47 and eased his hip onto the mattress
Nice job, Turtlecollector!Sorry for the wait- decided to watch Mortal Instruments movie last night with the kids :)
Jennifer ♔Princess Penguin♔ wrote: "Great Job, Melissa! How was the movie? I've been meaning to pick it up from the library."
I really liked it. Granted keep in mind I read the book a while ago. My son told me " you know it wasn't the same as the book - they changed some stuff". Which of course they did - I always have to remind him of this :)
He still thought it was great and my daughter hasn't read it yet. My son also I don't think liked who they picked to play Clary - where as the actor for Jace - I didn't like but he grew on me by the end of the movie.
I feel like I need to re- read it now :)
I liked the movie as well. Some of the actor choices weren't my favorite but I loved how it looked and felt. It was pretty actiony. My husband enjoyed it as well and he definitely never read the book.Great review, Melissa!!
Yeah - my husband liked it too - even with falling asleep for about 20-30 minutes of it. He is notorious for napping during movies, lolThe kids watched it twice yesterday - once with Dad and then again with me.
~Leslie~ wrote: "We must be married to the same guy! Mine does it as well. Though I am also known for dozing!"LOL - I doze occasionally and usually only 5-10 minutes max - hubby naps at 80-90% of movies we watch
Good morning Team! Hope everyone is staying warm and reading good books.Melissa - this made me laugh. I was "dozing" last night watching TV and my husband was definitely "napping".
Car registered -4 this morning on my way into work - this is the warmest it has been in the morning this week :)
OK. I think we all think alike. Tuesday's are family movie night at r house. An last night my husband picked Mortal Instrument to watch. Got it for Xmas. Read the book almost two years ago, couldn't remember much. Except it was good. Whole family liked the movie.
Yeah - I'm thinking that one might be one I need to buy if I find it on sale :) Oh I like a routine movie night. I might have to start that at our house
My husband and I also have a movie night during the week. We started it when the kids were little.Melissa, that is too cold! My sister-in-law lives in Birmingham - she has been posting on FB about the horrors there all day.
I've stopped looking at the thermometer. It just depresses me :( I am however getting a lot of reading done :)
It's been so cold that I went to start my van up today and the battery was dead as doornail. Hubby had to jump me. I want warm weather not this cold crap.
I'm sure your husband didn't mind jumping you, Angie! *wink wink*Good morning! Hard to believe it's already Thursday. This week has gone by fast.
Sorry ladies about the cold. Can u send some my way. It's been around 50s to 60s as highs here all winter. I want some snow. Will post my book tonight after work.
Dusty wrote: "Sorry ladies about the cold. Can u send some my way. It's been around 50s to 60s as highs here all winter. I want some snow. I live in the Pacific NW and we only got a dusting of snow early in the season. We did get some cold days for awhile, but nothing like what you guys are getting. It's been so dry, people are discussing whether we will be declaring a drought and one county in S Oregon put out a fire watch warning which is not normal until August. We did get some rain yesterday, but we could use a couple good storms up here.

DREAM(pg59)In the dream, Giada was tied up again.
STATUE(pg53)White marble statues posed in serene elegance.

I liked this book. This is the first book I've read by this author. Plan on reading more. It's about Giada, a immortal witch, who is asked to look after an keep safe Logan MacRoy. Who happens to be King Arthur Pendragon's son, who happens to be a vampire. There is someone out to kill him, so they team up(fall in love) an go after the killers them selves.
