How to find my old posts / comments
If you're on a PC, go up to your name in the above post and hold the mouse over it. A little word bubble with "comment history" will come up. Move the mouse down and click on it, or right click and tell it to open in a new tab. Voila, comments! If you're using the app, not a clue. I'm sure the Mac is much the same as the PC.
Oh wow! Thank you guys! I've been looking for a link but didn't realize that I had to hover. Now I feel dumb, but I'm glad some nice people could help :'D
I've been doing it by going to my profile, then scrolling down to the "recent posts" link in the Groups section. This is so much easier! Thank you!
I had found it once, then I forgot how and tried to get there from my profile. Can't remember how I found it again. A lot on Goodreads is non-intuitive.
Every time people ask for a how-to section on GR, or a FAQ, or a map or an index, Otis responds that he wants the site to be intuitive so he won't add those things.
So...everyone has to stumble around and find things by accident.

I've done a fair amount of stumbling around -- sometimes I find interesting things I didn't know existed. But more often I stumble around and don't find what I was looking for in the first place. Maybe some of us are intuitively-impaired. Maybe you could have a FAQ for those of us that are thusly "challenged."

I think there are one or two (or maybe three?) FAQs floating around the Feedback Group. The ones that staff created are sticky, meaning they remain at the top and have an asterisk. The ones created by members (which are probably more useful), I can't seem to find....they're there, somewhere...
One thing I would strongly suggest is joining the Feedback Group and just starting a thread whenever you have a question about anything, no matter how trivial you think it is. Lots of people are very familiar with the site and can help you out. Also lots of people are stumbling around just like you and would benefit from reading questions from other people stumbling around.

Thank you for this! I keep getting updates on other people's comments to this group, but didn't know how to find my question so I could bump it. Now I know!
from email: irene.cornelissen@telkomsa.netsummary: search for poem
question:
I'm looking for a poem of which I have forgotten teh name of the author. It starts ...
The movers have arrived. Only the things with yellow papers, I tell them.....
Ends with:
The guest room smells strange. The old gray cat curls op behind my legs.
I know this is a tough request, but I would be so grateful if you could find it for me.
Hi Irene,
This would be better if you start a new topic/thread and put your question in it. At this point, your question is at the end of a thread, and most people are not likely to click on this to see your question.

"go up to your name in the above post" maybe I misunderstood? Your comment was directed to someone who posted above you, so I thought she was supposed to hover over her name for the option to come up? Mine doesn't do anything when I hover over it.
Edit: 10 minutes later it worked. Weird. But thanks!
It doesn't work until you leave and come back to the page that you've posted on, I think because the website just adds your post to the page without refreshing the whole thing.
For those of you with user names that aren't typical first names, you can also just search the discussion forum for your user name. You will also get a few people replying to your comments but if your user name is something unique, it works well...And it has the advantage of having a search box on nearly every screen instead of having to find a thread you've posted on or find a link in your profile.
(You guys with user names like Kate, Rachel and Irene are out of luck with this method, though.)

Correct. Until the page is refreshed, your post isn't assigned a message number (e.g. Melanti's post above mine is message 22). Once you post your comment and then refresh the page, you get a message number AND you can then click on your comment history.

Click on the down arrow that's next to your profile picture in the top right hand corner. From there you can see a list of options... click on 'comments'.
since i posted in this thread months ago, and no can't find said post, this is extremely helpful, thanks!
I am posting to try this. So far I cannot get it to work. When I rollover I just get my name that takes me to my profile. I am looking for a reply I made about a book someone else posted about and I want to read. Now I can't find it.
Thank you Dee!! You solved it. I like to read the posts of people on "What's the name of that book" because they often sound really interesting. So I post a reply mentioning that. And that way I can get replies when it is found. I want to go back through those posts. Thank you!
Hi guys. So, i was wondering, since the original post/question has been solved/answered, how do we move this to "Solved"?
Or, we can't/shouldn't?

Only book requests go in Solved.

This is actually a "helpful hints" thread, so we definitely wouldn't want it moved to Solved anyway.
I also found that if I got to the Goodreads group - What's the Name... -- and click on "members" than search for myself -- it shows how many posts I've made, then I click on that link (Jenna has made X comments) and it immediately goes to all the posts I have made, from most recent to oldest. (If I hover over my name on a post I've made, I can see how many comments I've made, but if I click on it, it just takes me to my own profile.)
Just to recap and add a few more suggestions for finding your old posts (if you're on the desktop, not mobile, version of the site):
1. Your comments page for this group -- One method: Click "Members" in the right column, then Search Members by Name for your name. Click the "# comments" link beside your name. [Note: Not available on the Bookshelf page.]
(Update) 2. Your comments page for this group -- Another method: Rollover (hover over) your avatar next to any comment you made in this group. Click "See Comment History" in the small popup.
3. Your comments page for the entire site -- Rollover your avatar in the upper-right corner, then click "My Comments" in the drop-down menu.
4. Click "Recent Posts" near the bottom of your Profile page.
5. Search this group's discussion posts -- Enter keywords from your post into the Search Discussion Posts box in the right column. [Note: Not available on the Bookshelf page.]
6. Some people bookmark their posts using their web browser.

That's like... the opposite of intuitive.
Otis seems like a very nice person, but a lot of people need instructions. Everywhere, on every site. A lot of icons on other sites have gone wordless (no hover-over) and I have no idea what they do.
I posted about 2 books, one of which was solved for me- yay for which I am grateful and the other of which was not. The unsolved one is no longer posted- is there a time out rule?

No, definitely no time out rule. Is this the thread you're looking for?

In addition, these two threads of yours were solved:

It absolutely is the thread I was seeking. No luck with it and I got the recommended book but it was the 4th in a series of 12! And it involves many generations. It was a great guess but just wrong sadly.

Thanks for reading this and helping me out! :]
