Hillary | 15 comments I once read a collection of horror(?) if that's what Poe is, we called them scary stories. I think called The Midnight Express. The title story was about a boy who used to stay the night once a year at some relative's house and start to read this book but always fell asleep, recalling nothing in the morning. After a long absence he returned as an adult, began to read the book and realized it was the story of his own life. This led him to go to a train platform to try to catch up with a man in the book illustration whose back was to the reader but who turns out to be himself. Anyone have any idea what the book or story are and who wrote it?

Also possibly in the same book but maybe a different one, the scariest thing I think I ever read, starts out very Heart of Darkness but somehow the explorer gets a disease or curse that causes tumor like things to grow and become talking creatures who torture him with their words until he cuts them off one by one even as more begin to grow. terrifying!
