I actually felt the opposite. I loved the writing style. Very much like a story being told. I think it would be difficult to make it into a movie. A lot would be lost I think.

I listened to the audio, which I thought was beautifully done. It was like listening to a story teller of old. But it took me a bit to figure out how it was written - with 2 threads to the story progressing at different rates through time, and converging at the end. I got the book itself out of the library to refer back to until I figured it out. That helped to get my bearings with the audio.

You are right. It felt like it was being told by a storyteller. That's why I didn't like it. I prefer a story to be told by the people who experienced it so you can feel what they felt, rather than just hearing about. Very different preferences I guess.

Yeah, it was writtent in 3rd person present tense I think. I'm not a huge fan of present tense but third person present tense took even more getting used to. I can't picture it as a movie although it's been a few years since I read it so I'm sure I've forgotten bits and pieces.

You can't get more scary than Gretchen Lowell! I heard it was being made into a tv series. A cable channel, so it won't be too censored from the gory parts.

I was trying to finish Let Me Go (Gretchen Lowell, #6) by Chelsea Cain but had to stop listening to it because my son had some friends over and this book is a little twisted for three 14 yo boys. So I started The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken and can't break away from it to finish LMG.

Yup Erin, that's true. There's a past, but still quite heated relationship between the 2 MCs. As well as 2 other romantic interests but it's all mostly physical. But this didn't detract from the story. It was quite a refreshing storyline, interesting take on PNR with loads of unique creatures. And I loved that it's set in Australia :)
