Alphabetical: How Every Letter Tells a Story has been one I want to read for a while now. Would be interested in seeing what you think because these type of books don't always work.

Jan Notzon | 261 comments I'm presently reading provinces of night (sic) by William Gay. I've read about half of it (on a recommendation from another group and I find it pretty mediocre. There's some good prose, imagery, but the story so far seems rather pedestrian. It's rather Cormac McCarthy lite. Perhaps it will pick up in the 2nd half. Here's hoping...

Reading To the Letter: The Lost Art of Letter Writing and How to Get It Back at the moment. It isn't bad, but not as good as Just My Type: A Book about Fonts which was superb

message 663: by Louise (new)

Louise | 5 comments Reading The Story of You by Katie Regan

message 664: by Jan (new)

Jan Notzon | 261 comments Well, provinces of night has gotten better with book three and four. I'd still rate it a three, though. I keep finding these books, raved about by the NY Times (like The Year of Magical Thinking), that I don't really see what the fuss is about. Oh, well, each to his own.

Joy - that is good to hear. I absolutely love it, though had to abandon my Kindle copy as it is riddled with errors. On the upside, my cheap second hand paperback arrived this morning so I can now carry on....

Glad you enjoyed it - I loved it! I read somewhere I think that she has something else in the pipeline and I too will read it.

message 671: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sanlema) Gentlemen and Players is in my TBR list too Jackie. The only novel I read by Joanne Harris was Five Quarters of the Orange and I enjoyed it.

I'd seen reviews on Amazon that criticised the Kindle version for typos so I got a paperback copy of The Light Years. However I downloaded the next two on Kindle and only saw 2 errors.

message 673: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 380 comments I haven't read that one Sandra. I've only read Chocolat and found it a bit boring, just 2 stars for me. I probably should have watched the film instead, I love Johnny Depp lol.
