Alphabetical: How Every Letter Tells a Story has been one I want to read for a while now. Would be interested in seeing what you think because these type of books don't always work.

I'm presently reading provinces of night (sic) by William Gay. I've read about half of it (on a recommendation from another group and I find it pretty mediocre. There's some good prose, imagery, but the story so far seems rather pedestrian. It's rather Cormac McCarthy lite. Perhaps it will pick up in the 2nd half. Here's hoping...
Reading To the Letter: The Lost Art of Letter Writing and How to Get It Back at the moment. It isn't bad, but not as good as Just My Type: A Book about Fonts which was superb
Well, provinces of night has gotten better with book three and four. I'd still rate it a three, though. I keep finding these books, raved about by the NY Times (like The Year of Magical Thinking), that I don't really see what the fuss is about. Oh, well, each to his own.
I am reading The Light Years by Elizabeth Jane Howard. First in the Cazalet series and part of my series challenge.

Joy - that is good to hear. I absolutely love it, though had to abandon my Kindle copy as it is riddled with errors. On the upside, my cheap second hand paperback arrived this morning so I can now carry on....
Really enjoyed The Other Typist. Look forward to reading more of Suzanne Rindell's work. Now going to start Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris.

Glad you enjoyed it - I loved it! I read somewhere I think that she has something else in the pipeline and I too will read it.

Gentlemen and Players is in my TBR list too Jackie. The only novel I read by Joanne Harris was Five Quarters of the Orange and I enjoyed it.

However I downloaded the next two on Kindle and only saw 2 errors.
I haven't read that one Sandra. I've only read Chocolat and found it a bit boring, just 2 stars for me. I probably should have watched the film instead, I love Johnny Depp lol.
Loved Chocolat. Liked the film too, although both are almost different stories. Lucky we are all different.

I'm doing some very light reading - Doctor Who: Shada - a novel based on the original script by Douglas Adams. It's the Tom Baker Doctor and if you're a Dr Who fan, it's a fun read.
I am giving into the hype and finally reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. lets see if its any good!!
Just finished A Part of Me by Anouska Knight. Was a very emotional book but compelling to keep reading.

Just about to start Struck by Genius: How a Brain Injury Made Me a Mathematical Marvel it's the most interesting book I could find for the viper square challenge an author who shares your name.
Crashing through The Ancient Paths. Not completely convinced by the arguments that he is making about solstice lines across Europe
Got two on the go just now: The six wives of Henry VIII, just a tad late (!) and At Swim, Two Boys, a story of two irish lads falling in love during WW1.
Reading Park Notes by Sarah Pickstone (can't find it listed on Goodreads as it has just been published) - an anthology of poetry and prose about Regents Park, illustrated with paintings by Pickstone. A really beautiful book.
Just started Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, my 'recommended by a friend' magic square, thanks to the lovely Jo of this parish.
Gave me a nice excuse to read another one of Gaiman's :)

Just started Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale of Markus "Notch" Persson and the Game that Changed Everything as it has a reservation on it. My children spend a lot of time of this game, so might as well find out what it is about!
I'm starting The Light in the Ruins by Chris Bohjalian. I read Midwives by this same author a couple of years ago for my book club and liked it a lot.
Just about to start No Fixed Abode: A Journey Through Homelessness from Cornwall to London that'll be one book removed from my tbr list, yay!
