Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I still have unread books that go back to Dec 2010, my challenge this year is to try and read as many of the oldest books I have as possible (that's 6 from 2010 and 365 from 2011). I don't have to finish them as they all will be books I got free which I won't necessarily enjoy.

I'll have to keep an eye on my paid for books as well as I bought a whole load this week already.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Good luck Jud - I have the same theory, I won't necessarily finish all the books that I got initially.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm off to a good start... started Iggy's Ravenfold which was released this year and I bought it today...

Still trying to finish my Agatha Christies as well as I didn't get them all read last year.

But surely that doesn't count as a back log catch up ;)

I've decided there were a few of the ones left over from my back-log challenge last year that I won't be reading so they have already been deleted from this year's list.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I know, I'm off to a bad start

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

That should keep you busy, Jud! All the best with it!

:0)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Hmm, interesting start!

message 12: by Jud (last edited Jan 10, 2014 06:56AM) (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've finally started by first back log book :o)

Gulliver's Travels | 15-Dec-10 | £0.00

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Yay!! I'm not including most of the classics in my challenge!!

message 14: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments This is the oldest unread book I own so I thought I'd start with that.

message 15: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Gullivers Travels was on my TBR before someone read it in the group and gave it an absolute bashing so I deleted it LOL

message 16: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh really? I might not have started it if I had known that... I thought the whole book was about him on the island with the lilliputians but I have a feeling that only the first part of the book is that and dear knows what the rest is about. It's a lot longer than I expected.

message 17: by David (new)

David Hadley I read Gulliver's thingy a few decades ago and I thought it was good stuff.

You have to be careful though, there are some bowdlerized versions about which - apparently - miss out the rude stuff.

message 18: by Jud (last edited Jan 12, 2014 04:06AM) (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments After finishing the first part of Gullivers travels I started reading Dracula's Guest for a break and have now finished it. Gulliver hasn't really caught my imagination but I'll give the next chunk a go.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Good luck with the next Gulliver's travel. I had to look up Dracula's guest and ended up with a copy!! I wish I hadn't started the year with a doorstop challenge, I'm not even 30% in yet.

message 20: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Haven't even managed to touch a book for pleasure this year yet, which is so depressing since I have so many books I want to get my teeth into!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Poor Elle.

message 22: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments This Uni year will be over before you know it and then you'll have a whole summer to read books you want to read and not ones you have to, Elle

message 23: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'll have some time in between these two exams this week and my next one to read for pleasure hopefully plus about 1.5 weeks before semester starts back again. Hopefully can catch up then!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments That's not too bad then.

message 25: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Gulliver's travels is still plodding on, pretty sure I have the rude version since the poor guy has been made to straddle some giant womans nipple.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "Gulliver's travels is still plodding on, pretty sure I have the rude version since the poor guy has been made to straddle some giant womans nipple."

Yikes, I don't remember that! May have to reread.

message 27: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments That wasn't in the film!

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It's really not worth rereading GL. Unless you loved it the first time round. I'm finding it a bit dry

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I suggest a large rum.

message 30: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think I need one but sadly I am refraining from the rum at this point and time

message 31: by David (new)

David Hadley Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "Gulliver's travels is still plodding on, pretty sure I have the rude version since the poor guy has been made to straddle some giant womans nipple."

Yep, that sounds like the proper complete version.

message 32: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments i wish i could remember who gave it a complete bashing

message 33: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm now half way through Gulliver and I read the first story in Fairy Tales from the Arabian Nights for a break. Might read the next one as well since they are just short stories

message 34: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm finally 82% through Gulliver, I'm finding it a bit odd because I am enjoying it but it's just really hard going. I don't think I would recommend it to anyone.

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Finally finished it

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Yay! Don't think I'll be reading it any time soon, I have my granddads copy from when he was a boy

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I keep on reading the title of this thread as Jud's back leg catch up!

message 38: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments One more down, only three from 2010 left to go!

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done, Jud!!

message 41: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Not sure how I'll pick the books to read from 2011 as I have hundreds. Will have to form some sort of method. Same for 2012 books (not that I expect to get through them all in the one year).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I just started at the beginning. Only tackled one month tho as there were over 50, I'm only aiming to read 40, and have other challenges too

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "Not sure how I'll pick the books to read from 2011 as I have hundreds. Will have to form some sort of method. Same for 2012 books (not that I expect to get through them all in the one year)."

Do something like my challenge. Month by month. Or like my one last year, alphabetical. Just to make things a bit interesting.

message 44: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think I'll start of by going through and picking out the ones I want to read and see how many I end up with

message 45: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 2 more books down

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Great. I haven't finished one book yet this year!

message 47: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Finally finished another one, I need to make more time for reading.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments YEs, while you can Jud!!

message 49: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I know! I'll have nothing to do from the end of June cause my pal I'm always out with is moving to Washington and I'll have no Phoenix and I'll probably be getting too large to do much other than sit and read.

message 50: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yes, I will be using my big belly as an excuse to do nothing.
