Linda Thanks Ori. I will have a look at your review. It is my tattoo. :-)

message 203: by Linda (new)

Linda Haha Ori certainly not. It could have been a pic I got off Google :-)

Suze | 764 comments http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Villa-Ita...

Just finished Villa in Italy which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. It's currently free on Amazon, and well worth the download.
I found it to be one of those books which draw me in slowly and it has kept me up into the early hours twice this week, just so I could carry on reading.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Frenchie, I used to be like that, straight through before I began another book. And it was hard to not finish a book, even if I didn't like it. These days I often have 2-3 books on the go at the same time, depending on the mood I'm in or the mood I want to create (particularly at bedtime) but the drawback is, if I skip around too much, some books never get finished. So I wish I could get back to my old, book-dedicated ways.

Me, I like bios if they are well written and not an exercise in blaming or seeking for external validation.

message 212: by Suze (new)

Suze | 764 comments Oops, I thought I'd told you I liked it, sorry. It is a good book though and once I got into it, I was sad to see the end. I'll probably start buying again next week, so I'll be downloading the second one then.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments I'm up to my old tricks of reading more than one book at a time. Reading and enjoying Climbing the Mango Trees: A Memoir of a Childhood in India and Hello, Gorgeous: Becoming Barbra Streisand. I had been reading Dean and Me: A Love Story but got tired of Lewis' constant criticism of others dressed up as affection.

Bev (bevallen) | 1 comments I've recently discovered Jodi Taylor's St Mary's stories and I've now read all of them and have just started re-reading the first one "Just One Damn Thing After Another".
These books are enormous fun, lots of humour and action, a great heroine and some good solid historical research underneath all the time travelling fun.
Most enjoyable.

Currently reading The Unicorn Girl and wondering if Mr Adams had read it and The Butterfly Kid at some point. Something about the style says it wouldn't surprise me if he had.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments I picked up Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated yesterday and can't put it down. I wanted to read in bed last night but my snickers and snorts kept waking DH up. Aside from being hysterically funny about her time on Little House, I am grateful for this book because I had a huge, much-needed breakthrough. Ms Arngrim mentions something I never knew, and was never told, and hit me like a tonne of bricks: Until the mid-seventies, incest, sexual molestation of minors and child rape were freaking misdemeanors in most of the US. Teachers were told not to get involved if they realised something was wrong. About the worst penalty for sexual abuse was 30 days in the local slammer--and that's if anything at all was done. It wasn't supposed to happen, so technically, it never happened. As she says, it's like little kids weren't human beings.

Hell.

That explains a lot.

Have a great weekend,
Nabse B

I do that sometimes. In fact last night I had to put away a book, knowing that if I kept reading I'd be still awake at dawn.
