Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments Not sure of a saddest event, nothing coming to mind. But I do remember the funeral scene in Salem's Lot was ridiculously sad

message 8: by Angel (new)

Angel Gelique (angelgelique) What happens to the baby in Survivor was both sad and appalling.

message 18: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (mpontiff) | 127 comments The end of Dweller by Jeff Strand. It's a possible group read next month so I won't spoil it but those that have read it will know what I'm talking about. If you haven't read it, you really need to.

I sobbed my heart out at the end, completely gut wrenching.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments DWELLER was almost more of a tragedy than a horror novel. Fantastic read in any case.

I cry at the beginning as well, I don't know why but it chokes me up every time.

message 26: by Char (new)

Char | 17457 comments There's a few passages in Boy's Life that make me cry. There's a scene in James Newman's book Animosity they made me cry too.

message 27: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments I also love this passage:

“If you were my girlfriend I would give you a hundred lightning bugs in a green glass jar, so you could always see your way. I would give you a meadow full of wildflowers, where no two blooms would ever be alike. I would give you my bicycle, with its golden eye to protect you. I would write a story for you, and make you a princess who lived in a white marble castle. If you would only like me, I would give you magic. If you would only like me.”
Breaks my heart whenever I read it.

message 28: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (brandiec) | 229 comments I started reading a galley of Suffer the Children, by Craig DiLouie, yesterday and cried through most of the first third. It's no spoiler, since the premise is stated in the first sentence of the Goodreads synopsis, to say that all of the world's children dropping dead is the saddest thing I've ever read about.

message 29: by Manda (last edited May 18, 2014 02:06PM) (new)

Manda (ohstanley) | 6 comments Toni Morrison's Beloved. Finding out what Sethe did to her baby. MAD fucked up. I think I can understand her being that crazy, in that moment, but DAMN that is so tragic.

Gage Anderson Angel wrote: "In Pet Sematary, when Gage runs onto the road and gets hit by a truck..."

Don't worry guys, I'm fine

message 31: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Keane (StuartKeane) | 59 comments There's a scene in Shaun Hutson's Compulsion where a bunch of yobs are nailing a cat to the wall by its paws. For some reason, it was heart-wrenching.

I've a soft spot for animals me...torturing them isn't necessary in books.

Kristin (Blood,Sweat and Books) (goodreadscomhermyoni) | 26 comments The tiny little fingers scene in Rhiannon Frater's As the world dies series really choked me up.

Omg, I would go balistic on that one. Btw, my kitty was killed 2 days ago :(((( I can't stop crying. I loved him so very much. I have his brother still, so that's a bit of a comfort. I love him as well a lot, but he is totally different...but at least he's alive.
