An Abundance of Katherines by John Green ♥♥

review: this was actually a reread for me and im so glad that I reread it!!! its amazing to me how reading someones misery, colin's in this case, can be so entertaining. it definitely helps though when characters are written as extremely funny and entertaining people. I have always absolutely loved Hassan and colin's friendship. it made the story that much better. and let us not forget Gutshot, TN, and Lindsey....amazing concepts if I do say so myself. unfortunately bc Gutshot is apparently close to Milan.....I know that it does not exist :( darn.

What a nice end to the trilogy! I think this is one of the few books that can pull off a love triangle that satisfies both camps. I was never a Jem fan for the romance, but it led to a very touching story. I wish this had a little more action in the middle. At times it plodded along without much purpose other than to have characters pine for each other. Overall, it still resonated with me emotionally and I very much enjoyed it.

I had read the first chapter of this some time ago, but ended up returning it to the library unread. I'm glad I took the time to give this one a second chance. It's a cool little steampunky book with a ragtag group of heroes working against a big, bad necromancer. I will say that one of the twists I saw coming right away, but the second one was well done. The story really kept me entertained, even if the "secrets" were not handled with much subtlety.

I don't know if I want to give this 4 or five stars yet... hmmm... I tried reading this a few years ago but never managed to get into it. Thankfully I did this time. I really liked the story, and the characters, and the writing was oddly beautiful. I don't know why the book struck me like it did, I'm kind of afraid it's because I'm incredibly stressed lately. The only part that bothered me were the chapters of constant Grace/Sam cuddling and so forth. I don't mind romance, but there's only so much of reading about two people just laying around a house that I can take. I want to know more about the wolves and the lore, but I suppose that is what the other two books are for? Anyway, very glad I read this, and it might be a favorite, but it needs to ferment in my noggin for a while, :p
EDIT:
Actually, I will be reading this instead...

I love Agatha Christie. She was one of the first mystery authors I'd ever read. This is a great classic, a really quick read, but to me it's the original that all thriller writers since have tried to follow. Great twist at the end, and definitely one of those books that I kept trying to figure out, but to no avail...
(Once again, thanks guys!)

I didn't really know what to rate this book. On the one hand, I appreciated the journey these characters had to travel. The world was interesting, with its rich history and mysterious curse. There was a lot of action. All good things.
On the other hand, I didn't really care about the characters as much as I cared about what would happen. I actively hated at least two characters - Evanjalin and Froi. Evanjalin (whose identity I guessed early on) was just awful, and treated everyone like little chess pieces she could move around at will to do her bidding without ever just giving them the benefit of the doubt. Both she and Froi do despicable things, and sorry, but I don't buy the "But I was abused and abandoned!" excuse. It's a terrible message for young readers, and a terrible message in general. We are all responsible for our own choices, so spare me the pity party.
Finnikin didn't seem to have much personality. Trevanion and Sir Topher were way more interesting to me. If this book had been about their stories, I may have liked it more.
The biggest reason I didn't give it more stars was that I just didn't get it. Ultimately, it's a love story, but between two people who never had much chemistry in my eyes. Parts of the plot were way more confusing than they needed to be, and the entire last quarter of the book is one long-winded wrap-up session where various characters tell us what had been happening in Lumatere. Great information - but I hated getting it all at once, when I'm trying to get to the end of the book. Couldn't this have been sprinkled in throughout somehow? It slowed the pace too much for me.
I just talked myself out of 3 stars. I don't think I liked this as much as I thought I did.

This was a cute little romance. I liked it mostly because the characters were hilarious, and especially Jason. His obsession with food was endearing, even if a little obnoxious. Haley was cool and fun, and a lot Mary Sue, but still enjoyable. The major downside was a lack of even basic editing. Lots of repetitive phrasing and awkward phrases.

I'm so glad this book is so short. I don't know what it is about this book, but I don't have an opinion of it either way. The main character bothers me a bit. I know so many people who adore this book but it's just an "eh" book to me and I couldn't care either way. To try and compensate for my less than enthusiastic opinion, I did watch a documentary on Salinger, lol

Here's a site that can help: Bookssetin.com.
I read Something Strange and Deadly, which was quick and entertaining. It's zombies in 1870s Philadelphia.
There's also The Perks of Being a Wallflower or The Catcher in the Rye if you're up for a classic.
There are some listopias on here that can help you too. Good luck!

Okay, I found a book that bookssetin.com says was set in PA. Is it okay if I read that or do you want me to take your rec? Up to you, but this is a hard one so I don't know how to proceed, hmm...
Edit again...
I'm just going to read "Catcher in the Rye." It's a re-read, but you recommended it sort of, so I know I'll be safe, :) Plus, I remember reading this in a day when I was in high school, so it shouldn't take me any more than a few hours. Be back soon!
Thanks!

This book was so good... I couldn't put it down, and read until I had a migraine. One of my favorite dystopian novels of all time. It's a serious page turner and left me wanting more. So glad it's a serious. Loses a stay, however, because there was something about the writing that I couldn't get over. I don't know what it was, but it didn't agree with me.

I don't think I've read this since the required reading days of school. I often wonder if I would enjoy it as an adult. I remember thinking it was interesting, but not amazing.
I'm hoping to be done with my book today or tomorrow. :)

It's an okay book, but I had the same reaction to it as an adult that I did when I read it in school. I just don't get the hype.

Just as delightful as the first time I read it. Tolkien can set tone like few others - his language is sparse and yet his characters and setting are rich and full. While at times his story can amble along without much care for brevity or speed, the end result is still a tale with heart and drama. It's so easy to see why this is a classic and beloved by so many.

Monopoly Rules
• You do not need to wait for the other player to finish reading before you take your next turn. As soon as you're done reading, go ahead and roll.
• Each property is represented by a shelf. For each grouping of shelves/properties you would read a certain amount of books from that shelf. Once you finish the amount of books you would then “Own” that shelf.
• If you land on an “owned” shelf you would have to read a certain amount of books above what the owner had to read.
• If one person “owns” all of the books in a group (think Mediterranean and Baltic) and another player lands on their properties they would be able to recommend at least one of the books that the player has to read.
• Utilities – For the Electric Company – Read a book where the characters have electric chemistry. For Water Works – Read a book that makes you cry. Books have to be 150 pages or more.
• If a player lands on an “Owned” utility, then the owner will recommend a book with electric chemistry or that makes them cry.
• Railroads – For Reading Railroad – Read whatever you want. For Pennsylvania Railroad – Read a book set in Pennsylvania. For B&O Railroad – Read a book that someone else thought stunk. For Short Line – Read a novella. Page minimum 150 for all but Short Line. 25 page minimum for the novella.
• If a player lands on an “owned” railroad, the owner will recommend a book for that specific railroad.
• Chance and Community Chest – there are 12 cards for each. If a player lands on one of those spots they will roll the dice a second time and then would “pull” the corresponding card and do whatever it says on the card. Once a card is used, it will be out of play unless needed to finish the game. Books for this would need to be at least 150 pages.
• Being in Jail – To get out of jail you would need to have one of the get out of jail free cards, roll doubles on one of your next three turns or read a book where a character is arrested or has been in jail. Books for this would need to be 150 pages or more.
• Just Visiting – Read a novella of your choice, 50 page minimum
• Free Parking – Read any book 100 pages or more
• Go – Read any book of 200 pages or more
• Luxury Tax/Income Tax – Read a book with a rich character, a really poor character or someone that works in a bank. 150 pages or more
• Each roll, you'll post your starting spot, the roll and your new spot on the board.
• When you finish your book you'll post the spot your on, book name, rating, when it was finished and a short review of the book. If you were supposed to read a book that had a specific element (water works utility, book that made you cry), then please mention that in the review.
• Re-reads are allowed.
