TCF Monopoly Zakiya vs Logan vs Becca
Hi guys! Sorry that I haven't been on in forever. I've been kind of shunning my books (how blasphemous) the past month, but now that I'm not stressed our by reading, I think I will get back to it.Welcome to the game, Becca!! It'll be even more fun with you joining us :).
So to recap for us haha
End: Virginia Avenue
Reading
by Ransom Riggs from page 2 of the Book Club shelf.
Hi, Zakiya! Glad you're back! I hope you dive back in soon, :) I can get like that with my books, too. Sometimes I feel so far behind as far as reading goes that I just hide from my books. But the best thing to do is to get right back to it.
Yay! Welcome back Zakiya!!I'm the same way - when the reading slump hits it can be so hard to get back into it. Here's hoping for better days ahead!
Yeah, sometimes I can juggle, other times I can't, lol I think I'm good now. Well, until next month with the next wave of challenges start, :p
I should never read three books at the same time. You'd think that meant I'd get three books read even faster, but it just means I read three books extremely slowly, LOL
The short ones are sneaky, lol I choose short ones sometimes when I want to read something quick, and for some reason I feel like I'm reading a brick.

Review:
So, Jane Austen is my favorite author so it's not a very big surprise that this is now a new favorite classic of mine. I liked it better than Pride and Prejudice, which a lot of people loved, but I enjoyed this one far more. It made me fall in love with Jane Austen's iconic writing all over again, and now I can't wait to finally read the rest of her books. Plus, it's an old-fashioned "everybody is happy" love story, where I don't want to flip a table at the end of it.
I have a question. So I looked at the list for Stand Alone books and I saw The Host on there, but it's technically not a stand alone. It might have been when the book was first added, but I know the author is coming out with a couple more. Does it count, or should I choose another?
I didn't know she was writing more of those - cool! I say read it. None of the shelves are perfect, and it was considered a stand alone when it came out so you're fine.
Okay, thanks, :) I guess if I read ti before the others come out I can feign it being a stand alone, lol

Review - Well, it certainly made me cry! I loved this story of Joey and all he went through during the war. It also was so sweet to see him reunite with Albert. Great book!

Review: I loved this book! The characters were funny and smart, it's set in Chicago, and had a lot of good suspense. I thought Cameron and Jack were great together and I liked their attraction despite their past issues. Great fun!

I love this series! Just when I thought Sebastian's life couldn't have any more twists and turns, this one comes along and ups the ante. I loved that we see some interesting anti-American sentiments in the British ton leading up to the War of 1812. Great mystery with the same great characters. I can't wait to read the next one.
I own Pennsylvania Avenue
I'm about to pop a vein trying to get through "The Host," I don't think I'm getting through this anytime soon. I might have to read another book, lol I wish I had listed the book I started after "The Host" instead, I finished that in just a couple of days. I shall return!
You can change your pick Becca! Switch it to the one you finished and roll again. It's no fun torturing yourself lol!

This was a really surprising romance, and very funny! It's not really a single genre, more like steampunk, romance, supernatural, and Victorian drama. The premise is really fascinating (the main character has no soul, but lots o' spunk), and the rest of the characters are super colorful. It's definitely more romance, but it made me appreciate the genre more than I ever had. I'm going to be reading the rest of the series really soon.

This was a really good book, and it was nice to be introduced to slam poetry. The characters felt really solid, but I still couldn't deal with the main character at times. She was 18, but didn't have half the maturity to prove it. I'm definitely reading the rest of the series, though. The author did a good job of breaking hearts and putting them back together again.

Review:
This wasn't as good as the first book. The author was pretty all over the place and I think he was trying too hard in a few points. I guess it had the same allure of The Maze Runner, which was a lot of mystery, a couple of twists, and several cleverly laid "big reveals" that had me turning the pages a lot. For the same reason I will probably read the rest of the series, but I hope the author gets a better footing next time.
I now own Boardwalk.

This wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be a romance, but was really just a fantasy book, and not a complete book at that. The world was really interesting, but it's the first of a many-part series and is more serial in format so there wasn't much of an ending here. Disappointing.

While this was certainly hot hot HOT, I didn't love the characters. I found the mythology too complicated for such a short book and I didn't always follow what was happening. I know it was just a short intro book so I'll give the next one a try before giving up on the series.

Review: This was more of a PWP than I was expecting, but still had a sweet resolution and enough character evolution to keep me interested. It was a matter of waiting it out to see when Cam would realize what he wanted. It was fun, and a good intro to M/M romance (because I don't think Lover at Last counts).

Review: This was a great romantic suspense book. The Alaskan wilderness setting drew me in right away and I loved how badass Sunny was. No wimpy heroines here! The romance was fine, but I liked the plot more in this one. Very fun!

Review: This series is getting really good! After that ending I had to get the next one immediately. Rose is growing up and into her role as guardian, and I like the way her worldview is consistently being challenged. Does she truly want to be a guardian or is it just because she's been told that's her destiny? It's definitely interesting to see her start to address this issue. And the romance with Dimitri only gets hotter while Adrian starts to look more alluring. Life is always complicated for Rose, but I just love her!

Review: This wasn't my favorite by any means, but it did serve it's purpose well by setting up the next big arc for Rose and friends. I'm very anxious to see if they can discover the cure for Strigoi and how they plan to deal with Victor. It was too bad that Rose had to spend nearly the entire book away from the St. Vlad's crew, but I liked the introduction to the Alchemists. Good book that suffered from the disparate settings and characters, but ultimately rebooted the series focus in an interesting way.

Review: I love Cat and Bones, but it's hard to not compare this series to the Kate Daniels series which I adore so much. Assassin with difficult heritage mated to uber-master of the paranormal world - very similar! For whatever reason, I find Kate a little more personable and Curran a little hotter. Which isn't to say that I didn't like this book, only that it somewhat paled to another series I happened to read first. That said, I loved the plot here and how they've set up Cat's world for future books with the many revelations about her job, team, and family. I plan to keep reading this series.

I absolutely love these books, this writing, the characters, this author, yeah, you get the idea. This is one of my favorite in the series. I really can't say too much without just gushing all over the place about these books. I'm so glad there is more to come.

I loved this book. I'm so happy I finally got a chance to read it! I'm pretty wary about reading dystopian because it all feels like it's been done before, but this was fresh, original, and really well written. I can't wait for the rest of the series, this one had me hooked, and un-apologetically left me hanging.

I don't know why it took me so long to read this, it's a classic. The writing is so beautiful, I wanted to quote the entire book. It's a really dark and gothic story, but I kind of devoured it last night, it gets incredibly addictive and amazing in the second half.
