I read 54 books last year. There were a couple of months in which I hardly read anything, so I want to make it 64 this year. At first I thought I'd make it 70, but now I've been reading a couple of books with more than 600 pages, so that takes some more time. So I lowered my goal, because I want to keep reading more books like that.I want to read some more 'classics', so my side-goal is to read 35 classics, among which all Jane Austens books. After seeing the movies about her books dozens of times, I thought it about time I started reading her books!
Good luck to you all, with your challenges! And don't forget to enjoy your books!
I am new here and new to the book challenge. I chose 100 books because, according to an email from Goodreads last year I read 76 books. I like a challenge and I read quite a lot. I am always looking for recommendations so I think this forum will help. I just finished "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," and loved it. I know I'm late to the party on that one, but that seems to be the case with me always. I look forward to new things to explore this year with everyone!
I should also note that I have a personal goal to read as many classic novels as I can before I die.
In 2014 I want to read AT LEAST 50 books, but I'm hoping for more. I don't know how much time I'll have in the future with work and everything, but as I'm currently home, I'm at my 10th book already. I really wanna read a lot of diverse ones and expand my knowledge and taste! :)Good luck to everyone!
I'm not a fast reader, but I'm extremely comprehensive. in addition with only knock out 30 pages an hour or so, my time is extremely limited these days. so, my humble goal is a mere 12 books for 2014. One already down, another almost finished.
Hi, I'm Yaya a SAHM in Texas. I’m usually reading/listening to about 3-5 books at a time. I enjoy all genres and I’m open to reading pretty much anything. My goal in 2013 was 30 books and I ended up reading 45. It was probably more, but I wasn’t good about logging my books. I have two challenges for myself this year, 100 books and to be consistent with updates. So far this year I've been good about both. I do have one question... Does this group consider audiobooks reading? I do about 60% reading 40% listening/immersion reading.
Hi, My name is Julie and I am very excited to join the group. I love to go to the library and check out books, but also to buy books. I have so many to read. I will set my goal at 25 because I am new and want to set an attainable amount. I am currently reading the Circle by Dave Eggers.
Hi,everyone! I am new to the group. I set myself up for 50 this year. My best friend in jr. and sr. high used to set up challenges and see who would meet their goal first and who actually read the most. It was based on books not pages, plus we were in high school, so it was easier since our job was to read assigned novels for homework and the textbooks we had to read as well. I am looking forward to this!

With my busy schedule I'm looking at maybe 10-12 this year. I see people posting 50, 100, 150 books in a year and I'm like wow. Would love to have a goal of 2 books a month but even that would be asking to much. I'm a slow reader as well and with a kid, full time job + writing my own book, time is a luxury which I guess makes reading that much more valuable and enjoyable for me.
Everyone's different, and that's one of the things I like most about this group. We're just as encouraging and accepting of folks who want to read 10 books a year as those who want to read 500. Some years are 10 book years for me; this one happens to be a 101 book year.
HiMy challenge this year is 50 books.
At the moment on my 21st book
I mix my books mostly my usual thriller/mystery but mix in with light autobiographies, which I can read pretty quickly.
I am new to the group. My goal is 200 books this year. I am an avid reader, author two blogs, and am an editor. Reading is my vocation and avocation! My problem - I forget to update Goodreads unless it is a book I'm reviewing for a specific author and not something I've read just for me. I'll have to work on that!
I want to read 25 books (well I had read something before I saw this challenge, but wouldn't be counting them) and now I have read 2 books (Mario Vargas Llosa ,,Aunt Julie and the scrpitwriter" and Herta Müller's ,,The hunger angel") of my 25 goal :)
Hi, my goal is 100 books for 2014. I think I aimed to high lol but will try to accomplish goal as I already set it. Wish me luck, and good luck to you all. Lets have fun!
My original challenge was 24 books... I hit 25 this morning! So I've increased my Challenge to 50. Assuming that 25 my average for a third of the year, I'll probably be updating it again in late August! We'll see!Good luck to everyone!!
hi i am new to this group and am excited to read all the books you are going to read this year.i have actually been reading more then ever this year even though i have bad eyes.i am finding my challenges to be short so i changed them and i am hoping to read 25 this year but it could exceed that expectation.wishing you lots of fun in the reading world....
Hello! I'm new to this group and I'm already halfway to my challenge of 50 books but I thought this would be fun. I'll expand my challenge if needed.
Kara, I just posted my 63rd book read for 2014, which technically completes my challenge. Obviously I'm going to keep reading, so do I change my goal or start a new one?
I am new here and started the challenge back in March--added the books I read in January and February and even upped my goal to 72 books. I've read 36 of the 72 so far. I love you to read, better than watching the TV.
My goal is a bit extreme, 250 books in 2014, but I'm a pretty frantic reader so it's not impossible. I like to aim high anyway.
Chantel nothing wrong with 20 books. I am a late starter this year so my goal is small as well and nikos that is amazing. good luck!
It's sometimes easier to start small and then add to it. Makes you feel really good when you make the goal. Just the opposite if you start something way over your head and can't make it.
I've challenged myself to 100 this year but honestly I need to spend more time writing this year. :-)
Hi everyone! Hope you're on track to meet your challenge. I'm aiming for 40 books this year and have completed 23 already. Will see if I can raise the bar as the year progresses.Happy reading :)
Hello all,This may be a silly idea but I thought I would run it passed you all.
I joined Goodreads in February 2014 and subsequently this group as I was so excited to start my new reading adventure.
I got so enthusiastic that I took on too many reading challenges which are currently unfinished. As they are time limited they tend to be moved to archives and forgotten about.
So I was wondering if we could make a "Gone but not forgotten 2014" topic where all finished challenges could remain opened and contribute to the 2014 total number of books read with a Dec 2014 end date.
What do you think?
Virginia, we don't ever close or delete challenge threads, so you're welcome to keep going on your own even after the challenge is completed. And any book you read in 2014 counts toward your personal challenge whether it was part of a group challenge or not. :)
I'm really impressed by the goals some of you have set! I started with a goal of 75, read a lot really early, and so I bumped it to 125. Now I'm thinking that's going to really push me! I can't even imagine reading 200 or more books in a year!Good luck to everyone in meeting your personal goals, however many you plan to read!
I believe if you just clear the date your book was read, it'll remove it from the challenge @Ramsha However, these are some great challenges! I set a goal of 100, but I'm currently behind so I'll have some catching up to do!
How far is everyone on their challenges? I'm 30 out of 75 books but 4 books behind (Working on it!) Does anyone have a favorite book out of all they've read so far this year?
I'm 45 books out of 72--may have to up the number. I'm sure to pass it. My favorite books so far are Irish Strength by Amanda Meredith and Bless This Mouse by Lois Lowry.

Trinity wrote: "I have read 67 Books to my goal of 85!!"Awesome, Trinity!! Have any jumped out to you as your favorite?
I have had quite a few, but my favorite (all the books I've read in the series) would be the Morganville Vampires, and Cinder. I have love these books.
