What Are You Listening to Right Now?
I asked Sweeter what we're listening to and he said, I think:
"Animals 21st anniversary edition."
"Animals 21st anniversary edition."

there should be, they're fun to write.

I just burned that and Metric for my daughter.

i think the metallica song is my least favorite. there are some good ones on there, but you'll have to wade through the mediocre ones to get to them.

beck and the flaming lips - we live again
the unicorns - i was born (a unicorn)
ane brun - easier
grizzly bear - southern point
the tranquis - shit happens
the last shadow puppets - only the truth
tricky - abaon fat track
why? - brook and waxing
raphael saadiq - grown folks
saybia - i surrender
giant sand - (well) dusted (for the millennium)
the flaming lips - space bible with volume lumps
Never mind the Ray Davies album, where the hell is that long-rumored new Kinks album? It's been 17(!) years since their last one:

If you're looking for something to take the edge off the latest installment of "The Walking Dead" and that energy drink you just shotgunned, don't come here seeking solace. Industrial dirge tones, laser-beam keyboards, and primitive, stamping-plant riffs do not a happy place make.
Kicking off Side A (that's vinyl-speak for all you kiddies) and released as a single 30 years back, "Requiem" is all the evidence you'll ever need that the machines have finally taken over.

The sound of small, furry things being stomped to death.

the moonglows - tempting
mc honky - a good day to be you
sparklehorse - sunshine
lambchop - i believe in you
tift merritt - make you happy
the black atlantic - baiulus
santogold - i'm a lady
florence & the machine - blinding
lpg - f to the j
the flaming lips - halloween on the barbary coast
the flaming lips - talkin' 'bout the smiling deathporn immortality blues (everyone wants to live forever)
In case you're wondering, Clark, Charlie Sexton is playing guitar in Bob Dylan's band. And he's still sporting that haircut. Fucker looks like he hasn't aged in 25 years.
Love that Killing Joke album.

The big haystack rooster 'do? No kidding... If you find something that works, stick with it I guess. I remember seeing him at Harpo's when that first album came out. The women were going apeshit. I couldn't take my eyes off the hair.

It's a standoff, too close to call, but the little girls understand.

It wasn't quite as haystack-y, but I couldn't help but wonder if that was Charlie Sexton on guitar. When Bob announced his name, I was like, "holy shit! That is Charlie Sexton."
I'll give him this: Charlie can play a mean, tight guitar.

We're not gonna take it
I drove all night, since you said "Come see about me."
White daisy passing.
I'll take you there.
A little respect, Kele Mani: don't take my sunshine away.
Gypsy Biker, damned for all time.

clark, does this make you feel old?"
That's a matchbook cover, right?

Annoying after a while, but "Da Da Da" is an audacious, Casio VL-tone-powered international hit single, combining absurdly deadpan singing and about three notes of music.

For the most part, Elvis lost me after this one but it was fun while it lasted.

One-hit wonder, but what a hit it was: "The Salt in My Tears." Briley later served time in Ian Hunter's band.

Launch-code enabled, Chicago's Material Issue seemed poised for world domination with this one, but the planets never aligned quite right.

Last gasp of brilliance from the boy who was supposed to chew up Nashville and spit it out. The six failed marriages and crack addiction might have had something to do with it.
Same guy, Barb. Cee-Lo got his start with Atlanta's own Goodie Mob. Then went solo. Then hooked up with Danger Mouse for Gnarls Barkley.

Hot Panda - how come I'm dead?
Cold human, you were shot in the head
Hot panda - or dromedary?
Cold human - are you talking to me?

With all the attention Cee-Lo Green's Fuck You has been getting, I was thinking about another great breakup song, this one from the late, great Harry Nilsson:

Nearly 12,000 long days and nights – two generations in some parts of Appalachia - passed between the release of the New York Dolls’ second album “Too Much Too Soon” back in 1974 and their 2006 comeback (first image pictured above) and while these may not be your mom and dad's Dolls (read: mine), both records deliver in spades, punching all the neurons, tugging on heartstrings, swelling the chest, and emphatically confirming that the 32-year wait was indeed worth it.
Long may they run.

nice. we have all felt that way. I'm glad my daughter is all grown up because I don't know if I would want her in the back seat singing "Fuck You!"

On a whim, I decided to take a quick spin through the CD bins at the Redford District Library the other day and I just might make it a ritual. Picked up a couple of Chuck Berrry albums (which I need like a third testicle) I'd never heard before as well as this one.
To be honest, I've never quite gotten over old-school-style Brit punk and these guys do it as well as anyone anymore (come to think of it, they're the ONLY ones who do it anymore), throwing in a healthy dose of ska for texture.
