Andy P's Task: Pick a Pair
For this task please choose Option 1, 2 or 3, then read two books that satisfy the option's requirements.

Option 1
Choose an author (no co-authors or multiple contributing authors) that has written both series and stand alone non-series titles. The books may be fiction or non-fiction.
Book 1 - Read a book that is part of a series by that author. The book must be identified as part of a series on Goodreads.
Book 2 - Read a book that is a stand alone non-series title by the same author.
example:
Lawrence Block
Book 1- series: Hit Man (Keller #1)
Book 2 - non-series: Small Town

Option 2
Book 1 - Read a book that has been published under two different titles when available in the same language.
Examples:
The Sister also published as The Behaviour Of Moths
The Wrong Mother also published as The Point Of Rescue
Book 2 - Read a book originally written in a language other than your native language that has been translated into English or your native language (Because often the literal translation of the title is different from how it appears in the translated edition) You may read the book in any language.

Option 3
Choose an author (no co-authors or multiple contributing authors) who has written both adult and Young Adult books.
Book 1 - Read a book by that author that is aimed primarily at an adult audience. The genre Young Adult may not appear on the front page genre list.
Book 2 - Read a book by that author that is aimed primarily at the Young Adult audience. Young Adult must appear on the genre page. Please remember that if the YA book has the genre label "Children's" on its main page it must be over 300 pages.
example:
Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Book 1- adult: The Shadow of the Wind
Book 2 - young adult: The Prince of Mist

Required:Identify the option when you post

Ty | 563 comments nice task, Andy.

Would you take pseudonyms for Option 3? Some authors choose to publish different genres under different names. Thanks!

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1183 comments For Option 2, book 1, I would like to get approval for the following books:
Outlander, also published in UK as Cross Stitch
and
About a Dragon, published also as The Distressing Damsel

Both by Amanda Stevens

The Prophet book 3 in series

The Devil's Footprints stand alone

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 248 comments Hi,

I'd just like to double-check whether my choices for Option 3 will work:

Raising Steam (adult)
Dodger (marked as YA genre)

Coincidentally, I think it will work for Option 1 as well, so if Option 3 is out, do let me know if it will work for that instead? :)

I'm thinking of using Neil Gaiman for this, since I've had several of his books on my kindle for years.

For option 3:
American Gods (grown-up book)
Neverwhere (YA on the list)

Thank you!

Actually you have to choose one option and find books that fit the two different requirements for that option.
Maybe the moderators can help explain this as well.

The option designation highlighted above is confusing- if you mean Option 1 for Baldacci, book 1 series w/ Split Second and book 2 non-series w/ True Blue
that looks like it will work

Yes, this is what I was looking for. But the other book you need to read to satisfy this option should be one that has been originally written in some language other than English and Stake That appears to have been originally written in English. So you need to choose another book originally written in some other other language to go with Razor Girl.

As DLM Rose pointed out your books will work for Option 1. Just be sure to specify which book is the series book and which is the stand alone

Yes, but, for Option 2 You use one book that has two different titles, and one book that is translated from another language into English. You have to have two books each of which satisfies a different set of conditions.

I guess I'm confused. I picked Stake That for option 1 as the series and I was wondering if Razor girl would work for the book that was not part of a series.

Susan A I'm not sure what " The book must be identified as part of a series on Goodreads." means exactly.

I'm looking for approval for Option 1 series book
Screwing the System. It is listed as book 1, there is a book 1.5, but no book 2. Is this still considered a series?

The standalone for Option 1 I will read is Junk

Thanks for your help.

As I understand it, if Good Reads lists it as a series, which in this case it does, it is a series. You might check with one of the moderators, as their knowledge is far superior to mine on this subject.

Normally, unless a task creator specifically requires that the series have a specified number of books in it, it is considered a series if the title is followed by (Series, #1).
