I think you can get far more out of a book by seeing other people's reactions and views. We're doing Wuthering Heights in another group, and I never knew so many people hated it!
Apparently they hate all of the characters. Personally, I've only read about half of it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.
I've been meaning to read it this month, instead I've been putting it off. I really should get round to it. Might start it today actually and give 'book-juggling' a go.
I can't say I hate Wuthering Heights, but I can say it disappointed me the first time I read it. The second time, I actually liked it much more than the first time around.
I'm planning to read Christmas Carol this December, too (I read it every Christmas), so I'll join in!
I found Wuthering Heights aggravating. It's been a long time since I read it, so I've often wondered if my opinion would be different now, but at the time I just wanted to knock all the characters' heads together and be done with it.

I always wanted to hit Heathcliff. I don't hate Wuthering Heights, but it's certainly not my favorite, either.
Geoff, Catch-22 is one I'm definitely interested in, I just don't know if I'm going to have time during all my other group reads. I found it really hard to get into, so I put it down a few days ago, but reading with someone else would definitely be a push I might need...
The idea of people calling December/January summed always confuses me.
Hopefully I can get everything else that I have planned finished by then!

I'm thinking of doing either The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales or Dracula in January.
Would anyone like to join me in reading either of them? Grimm's Fairy Tales seems like something that would be really great as a buddy read!

I might do Grimm's in January. I plan on buying a few books for myself in the post-Christmas sales, and I could certainly make that one of them.

Holly, I listened to Dracula and it was excellent. It's very well written and I think you will enjoy it.
Yeah I'm really enjoying reading it. It will definitely become one of my favorites :)Thank you Amber ^_^
Would anyone be interesting in doing a Dostoevsky in Jan?
Thinking of doing either The Idiot, Demons on Notes from Underground.

I have already read all of them and they are all wonderful. If you will do the buddy-read I will surely follow the discussion.
The Idiot is my favorite Dostoevsky. Demons and The Brothers Karamazov are better but The Idiot touched me much more inside, I could relate with prince Myshkin much more than with other characters of other Dostoevsky's books.
I was thinking of reading Kindred by Octavia Butler sometime next month or maybe later in Jan. Would anyone be interested? I'm not a fast reader by any means lol but maybe doing this could help. Plus it would be fun....I think
If anyone wants to do a readalong with me, be sure to let me know. I got a bunch of books on my tbr list to get through including a few classics. I can share what's on my tbr list and then go from there. Thanks! :-)
Hi! I'd love to have a buddy read. Right now I'm starting to read Damned, by Chuck Palahniuk. But I still don't have my next read planned, so I'm open to any suggestions! As Amber said, I can share my tbr list and see (or even if it wasn't originally on my tbr list but it seems interesting). Anyway, if anyone is interested, let me know :)
How does this buddy read compute? I can only assume that users who have joined several groups cannot deliver on their promise to read all the books. Their tbr pile must be huge. That my best so called educated guess. Can anyone confirm or enlighten me on the matter?

They're unofficial group reads, where maybe only 2 or 3 people decide to read the same book at the same time and discuss it amongst themselves.

Luffy wrote: "How does this buddy read compute? I can only assume that users who have joined several groups cannot deliver on their promise to read all the books. Their tbr pile must be huge. That my best so cal..."my tbr list has 78 books on it and I think my is relatively short compared to others. It just seems to always grow.

Excellent thank you . I now have it in my diary.
I have a feeling that quite a few of us would like to read Divergent, me included, so would it be a bad idea if we all just read it together as a small group read? Maybe start a topic on it and just set the date and read? Right?
That's the idea of buddy-reads, and if you want to start the thread, feel free to! We can then see who is interested, and set a date.
It's exciting to see our first buddy read being set up!

I read Divergent last year. Loved it! I know I say that about everything. Would love to join in the discussion if you do a buddy read.
I set a thread up for anyone who is going to read The Shining Girls with me in February as I'll be doing a readalong of that for Women in horror month. :)

Amber wrote: "I set a thread up for anyone who is going to read The Shining Girls with me in February as I'll be doing a readalong of that for Women in horror month. :)"Read the synopsis of this book and it sounds very interesting. I haven't read horror before but, it was one of those genres I wanted to tackle when deciding to do this challenge. I'll see if I can get a copy from my school's library (or online, etc). Hopefully I can keep up with this buddy read since I haven't done it before. I'll check out the thread you made in the meantime.
No problem Lori. Horror is pretty good. My local library has that one so I am going to get it there. the ebooks library online had it as an audiobook but I want to get a physical book copy. ok awesome. Readalongs are fun and easy to do. You can discuss it after you finish reading the book. I tend to review my books after I finish reading them anyway.

Posting in this thread:
- Please request a buddy read for a specific book, rather than just posting a link to your whole TBR shelf.
- If possible, put when you're roughly thinking of starting it.
