Holly, I've decided to jump on board your Harry Potter re-read! And LOTR at Christmas sounds great too - it's been too long since I did that.

Is anyone interested in a buddy read of River God? It didn't win the poll for this month's world lit group read, but I'm planning to read it anyway. Ancient Egypt, and I've heard good things about this series. Can I tempt anyone??

message 155: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Would anyone be interested in buddy reading the whole Little House series?

message 156: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I'd be interested in the Little House series in 2017, Camille. Shall I set up a thread?

message 157: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
I would be glad to join a buddy read of the Little House books, especially since I was already planning to read them.

message 158: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Okay! I'll set up a Buddy read for the series.

Tr1sha | 828 comments Is anyone else interested in a buddy read of Elizabeth and Her German Garden - Elizabeth von Arnim, possibly to start reading some time in the next few days (start between 17 & 24 May)?

message 160: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I'm reading it now, but I'll gladly join in on the discussion.

message 161: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments So I am thinking Dostoevsky in 2018. Anyone interested?

message 162: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Me! Which one?

message 163: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I’m not sure yet. I’m thinking Crime and Punishment or the Brothers Karamazov.

message 164: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I've never read Karamazov.
Loved The Idiot.

message 165: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Let me know, I'm trying to read lots of Russian literature so anything is good

message 166: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am good with the Brothers Karamazov

message 167: by Gabby (new)

Gabby Thorpe (diaryofabibliophagist) | 16 comments Hello, I'm starting Anna Karenina probably in Feb (2019) and really want to do a buddy read so I can motivate myself to get through it:)

message 168: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I could be up for Anna Karenina to go with cold & snowy February. Seems like a good match.

message 169: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Do you want to map out an approximation of how many chapters you think you’ll cover in a week so we have some guidelines? I’ll be doing the audiobook and would be happy to work at your pace.

message 170: by Gabby (new)

Gabby Thorpe (diaryofabibliophagist) | 16 comments I'll have a look and work it out :)

message 171: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Woodward (artaniawriter) | 1 comments Would anyone like to read Children of Time with me? I just started it and am finding the idea of using a virus to manipulate evolution pretty fascinating.

message 172: by Alicia J. (new)

Alicia J. (aliciakindlereads) Anyone want to do a buddy read with me? I will be reading Fortunate Son by Walter Mosley on April 1st and I’ll be starting The River by Peter Heller Monday, March 25th.

Anyone want to join?

message 173: by Anisha Inkspill (last edited Jun 23, 2019 12:32AM) (new)

Anisha Inkspill (anishainkspill) | 106 comments Hi, I’m pencilling in to read the below in the remainder of the year.
If it appeals feel free to join me. Thanks.

In first half of July The Barretts of Wimpole Street play based on life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In second half of July Sonnets From the Portuguese

July - the odyssey Walter Shewring (Translator)
Sept - the odyssey translation Emily Wilson
Nov - Ulysses the short version

update
I've just realised it's not obvious I don't mind if you read different versions / translations of Odyssey or Joyce's Ulysses.

Anyone interested in reading The Inheritance Quartet with me?

message 175: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 468 comments Would love to Jenny but I don’t think I’ll manage this year. It’s just February but already I’m pretty much all booked up...

message 176: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
I know how that one goes Susy! I actually had them on my list for last year, but took em off, so I am determined to get em done this year! I had 12 novels planed, but that wound up being expanded to at least 23 by library reads and a group read, plus I had plenty of mangas planed... I can wait, and let me know if you get to them this year, and I'll join in when you start, or we can plan to do it next year, from Jan- April or so!

message 177: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 468 comments Yes! Will do!

message 178: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Jenny, Inheritance Quartet has been on my list for sometime, but I still haven't gotten around to starting it. However, if you guys eventually start a discussion, I will probably join you at that time!

message 179: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Would anyone be interested in reading The Stand with me? I have a friend on Goodreads and Facebook who is just starting it and is looking for people to join her. I had planned on reading it this year anyway, so I figure there is no more appropriate time to start than now, lol. Any takers?

message 180: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am in search of an epic buddy read like we did with War and Peace in 2015. Anyone interested in reading something ridiculously long?

message 181: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments I wouldn't mind, but it depends on the book?

message 182: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
I can set up a buddy read thread for you any time you need to.

message 183: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Roseanne wrote: "I am in search of an epic buddy read like we did with War and Peace in 2015. Anyone interested in reading something ridiculously long?"

How about The Count of Monte Cristo? I think I read it a looooong time ago, but I don't remember much of the details other than remembering that I liked it more than I expected. I'd be curious what I would think now.

message 184: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Oh I have not read that. I believe I even have the book.

message 185: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments I would totally be up for that! I just got a copy of it recently. Rosemarie, can you set up a thread for us? I won't get to it until January, so no hurries! Thanks!

message 186: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
I'll set it up now but you don't have to start reading yet. 😉

message 187: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am just going to throw it out there for anyone who wants to join us. Some of us who read The Count of Monte Cristo are moving onto The Three Musketeers.

message 188: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
When would you like me to set up the thread?

message 189: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments End of March? To begin in April. :)

message 190: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod

Can I join in for The Three Musketeers? I've had the book just collecting dust for all these years. I'd love to finally tackle it!

message 192: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
You are most welcome to join the buddy read, Daphne! The more, the merrier!

message 193: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Yes, that would be awesome!

message 194: by Cosmic (new)

Cosmic Arcata | 27 comments Would anyone be interested in reading Foucault's Pendulum In November?

message 195: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Is anyone interested in reading David Copperfield and Demon Copperhead simultaneously? I recently listened to a podcast where Barbara Kingsolver talked about how she wrote her book over the skeleton of Dickens' book.

message 196: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Oooh, I haven't thought to read David Copperfield simultaneously! Okay, I'm in! I have Demon Copperhead downloaded already and am planning on starting that soon. I'll have to get a copy of David Copperfield. How do you suggest reading them simultaneously?

message 197: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
Just let me know when you would like me to set it up, Eileen and Roseanne.
Any other group members will be welcome to join in as well!

message 198: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Okay, I have a copy of both books, both in audio and kindle, so I can read along! So now what? LOL!

message 199: by Penelope (new)

Penelope | 133 comments I am interested in this. I am having a terrible start to this reading year. Nothing is sticking in spite of having started a minimum of 40 books!!
Maybe a buddy read is what I need. I have a copy of both books having received them both in my latest curated book package.
Don’t know about reading them together but could try.

Will look for updates. 🤗
