Serieses!

Is this a series?

in this instance https://www.goodreads.com/series/1910... there is probably a lot of confusion because "volumes 1, 2" etc were combined regardless of the actual content (there are volumes 2 of 2 combined with volumes 2 of 6... for example I know for sure that this https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... is a vol. 2 out of 2 )
I would delete the entire series

https://kansaspress.ku.edu/series/mod... - the press certainly considers it a series, and Uni presses tend not to have many imprints-as-separate-brands or traditional imprints. I'd probably let this one go, if it were entirely up to me.
(Not that I have any personal stake in this, and won't especially care if it's removed)

But I came across it fixing an Italian edition, so KU Press is not the only publisher. This one also https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... is the translation of this https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (see description, although at the moment they are not combined), originally published in 1966, so clearly not written specifically for this "series".

(the first books I checked are already on a list named like the group name mentioned in description)

https://www.goodreads.com/series/2076...

https://www.goodreads.com/series/2194..."

Chris & Tim, I have deleted the one in post #566, clearly not a series (it had books by Caesar, Machiavelli, von Clausevitz...).

https://www.goodreads.com/series/2194..."

That must mean my one in message #568 is Ok to delete then.

Also, I wondered: should those kind of collections made a list before being deleted as a series, as a general rule?

Also, I wondered: should those kind of collection..."
Oh man! That's a lot of books.
I'm not a listopia person. With awards that weren't awards I would put up a post saying "does anyone want to turn this into a list?" no takers after 2 weeks, then delete.

"brought by you by Applause" Applause is a publisher I assume?

(already deleted one of them as it was set up twice and once with only two books)
Shouldn't these books not be sorted to their main series as non primary work?
They seem to be already in that series https://www.goodreads.com/series/2203... (should probably be non primary there?)

Question 1 - Not sure. Not sure if they should be part of the series at all.
BUT
Question 2 - If they are part of the series, I'd say that they're definitely NOT a primary element.

That "main" series looks just like everything thrown in - so unsorted ... ugh... anyone here reading that and with knowledge?

Re Colouring books in general. I think where series have a lot of associated "bits" that aren't actually part of the series, then people have created (for example) "Harry Potter Extras" series. However, to me, if there are sufficient 'extra material' works, like colouring books, then these should be (locked/regularly monitored) Listopia series. That would keep them together where they're easily found by readers, but not clutter up the actual book series for people purely interested in reading the works.

is there more combining element than just the topic (which isn't enough) and I'm missing it?

(I won't have time for doing anything there, new job and way less GR so I probably don't set up that project because I couldn't look after it)

But I'm indeed more curious to finally know that than to possibly delete something - just saw it and remembered I always wondered :)

I am not an expert on this, but, I'll try to answer. Hopefully if I'm totally wrong, someone will correct me ;-)
Manga and light novels are different. Light novels are like novellas (text) with illustrations whereas manga is nearly all illustration - like a comic. Light novels are (in Japan) geared toward younger people and are easier to read - though not a great equivalent, they seem sort of like Middle Grade books - in that they have text and illustrations interwoven. Some manga have light novels versions or adaptions and vice versa. That might be what's going on his your example - one series is for the manga (with 9 volumes) and the other for the light novel. I do not consider them interchangeable and IMO, they should stay separate as they're pretty different, even if it's rehashing the same story (similar to the Harlequin comics not being merged into the originals). If that one in your link is just a omnibus manga edition, though, then it should just be added to the main series as an omnibus non-primary. I tend to leave the manga stuff alone and I don't run across it often in my own viewing on GR, so I might be mistaken. I would assume no to merging light novels into any manga edition, but unsure if it should be added as a non-primary to the main manga series or left separate.

Can be used to cross check when adding to Listopia.
Maybe Listopia titled: "University Press of Kansas: Modern War Studies"
It's accurate, has the "series" name and publisher in it. ;-)

Two years ago, I explained to the person who requested a series to be made that it wasn't a series according to Goodreads and a Listopia could be added instead. I see they have now created the series themselves. So I'm going to delete it and they can add a Listopia themselves according to your instructions.

I think this is not a series but an imprint ("Animal series" edition of the publisher Reaktion) and should be deleted, but I ask for your opinion: maybe a List would be more appropriate? Thanks!

I seem to remember that other books "as told by male POV" were simply added in their original series, not in a series of their own

It's fine as a separate series.

Please start a new thread, Zuzana. Your request doesn't fit the topic of this thread.

They really need someone familiar with the content in question. I am not.

It looks just like a way to group books of the same genre by this author, but not really a series.
See here http://www.tessgerritsen.com/books/ there's also a section called "Romance Novels", so it really looks like these are not series, unlike "Rizzoli & Isles" by the same author.

which consists of just a few titles, relatively older classics, with modern illustrations.
Someone created a listopia of them: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
The trouble I'm having creating a series is that there are so very many editions of each of these titles, that even when I make sure the Classics Reimagined edition has the illustrator added, I can't select just the CR edition when adding to the series.
Just let it go?

Wow, than that IS a pretty weird universe :D"
Ha! The universe is the time that they were set in - not that you could tell in the first book. I didn't know whether it was Georgian, Regency or Victorian. So - pretty flexible :D
