Ryan Naughton | 8 comments Are there any good creature feature sf novels worth checking out there?(i.e. books that have monsters in a scifi context)

Isaiah | 74 comments Try Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It has many strange and creepy monsters in it, as well as being an awesome book.

Lindsay | 593 comments A couple of recent ones I enjoyed were Fragment and Pandemonium by Warren Fahy.

They're sort of like Michael Crichton crossed with an evolutionary biology class. But it's not so much a single monster as a whole hostile biology.

David | 15 comments Lincoln Child writes some good ones. Check out Terminal Freeze and the Third Gate. Also Alter of Eden by James Rollin is good too.

Ryan Naughton | 8 comments I've diffidently read Hyperion, and I loved it. I'm looking for something more Earthbound however.

Lee Burton (lsburton337) | 1 comments Do you mean in a more like ... Godzilla sense, or alien invasion sense, etc.

If there's any one book that's been mentioned other than Hyperion that I'd recommend, it's Perdido Street Station, I loved that book.

John (johnred) Just about anything by Lovecraft or his followers.

John Wyndham is an excellent choice, too. Maybe The Day of the Triffids, or The Kraken Wakes

I thought I had added to this thread but apparently I was mistaken. (Although there were a few days where Goodreads was eating everything I wrote, so I'll blame it on that, instead.)

I would recommend MM9 for some city-stompin' kaiju action. Although my review isn't glowing, I did find it to be interesting. (For those unfamiliar with the term, "kaiju" are giant monsters of the Godzilla, Mothra, King Kong ilk.)

Andrew Chamberlain (andychamberlain) | 72 comments Some of the work of Neal Asher has interesting moster/aliens in it for example the 'Prador' in novels like The Skinner

Ashers work is fairly rich with exotic creatures - intelligent 'sails' that hire themselves out to ships for exmaple.

+1 for Wyndham. He's too often overlooked, but Day of the Triffids is a great read. I also loved and was terrified by his The Midwich Cuckoos. no monsters, but a great read.

As for the followers of Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith is a good choice but might be getting into fantasy. Closer to Lord Dunsany than Asimov.

Lee Burton (lsburton337) | 1 comments I have to agree that Wyndham is always good. Neal Asher however has never done it for me.
