Hahahaha! In all fairness though, I HAVE been warned by, well, practically everyone, about reading it. I am still early on in the process, and right now I feel like this book is a strange jumbled-up ball of entangled thorns that poke you EVERYWHERE however you try to hold it (and you still can't tell where the pain is coming from). I don't know if I should be concerned about the fact that despite all that, I can't seem to be able to put it down just yet.

I am waiting for the Effort Justification paradigm to apply itself here.

Had to google that. Well I'm going through the same process with Nicholas Nickleby. I find most Victorian novels to be trying.

I actually haven't read that. Do you recommend it? I seem to have a strange craving for complex literature lately.

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Kath wrote: "I seem to have a strange craving for complex literature lately. "

It's not complex, rather more obtuse (and only to me) and literally literary. It's Dickens at his sentimental and coincidental best.

Hi Kath, I'm a sucker for Dickens, but I'd still recommend it. I'd recommend David Copperfield and Great Expectations first though, if you haven't tried them already :)

message 157: by Michael (new)

Michael Cairns (michaelcairns) | 25 comments I'm reading Ludmila's Broken English by DBC Pierre, and loving it.
Beautiful language, manages to go from heart rending to pant-wettingly funny in the same sentence, great stuff.

I actually have read both of those. Wonderful books. Especially Great Expectations. I stopped counting after the 10th time I read it. :) If you got any more to recommend, by all means throw em my way!

message 159: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm 39 chapters away from finishing Un Lun Dunwhich is a pretty good read for a YA book and am 7 chapters away from finishing A Dozen Black Roses by Nancy A. Collins. Both reads are still pretty good. I hope to finish them soon. :)

Sorry, that pretty much exhausts my Dicken's repertoire :)
I'd love to know what you think of Nicolas Nickleby though.

I'm reading Ithaca, and enjoying it very much so far.

message 163: by Sarah (new)

Sarah "Pippy" (pippyx) I am reading Vurt by Jeff Noon - as to whether I am enjoying it, I have to say I feel like I am looking into a glass box where everything is happening I can hear muffled conversations but I do not really know what is going on.

message 164: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Bluff | 9 comments I'm just stating "Dreaming out Loud" by Benita Brown. Picked it up in the library a while ago and just getting round to reading it now

message 165: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm currently reading my next YA read wind in the willows which is pretty good so far and am almost finished with A dozen black roses by Nancy A. Collins.

message 166: by Louise (new)

Louise Laing I have just finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and thought it was a good book. Although I was partially annoyed by the way he ended the book as we do not find out what happens to Hazel and whether she lives on with the cancer or if she pulls through. I wonder if it was intentional?

Tracey | 916 comments Late to the party, but I'm finally reading The Book Thief.

message 170: by Becca (new)

Becca (divergememockingjay) | 2 comments The Scorch Trial by James Dashner, it definitely is pretty insane. And I thought The Maze Runner was pretty crazy. There are so many plot twists... and nothing is as it seems. I am just expecting the worst of things to happen, but I guess that comes from my reading of dystopia.

message 174: by Shreya (new)

Shreya (loopyloops) I finished 2 books from The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset. But I shall start Mockingjay tomorrow. For tonight, I'll switch things and read a story or two from Switch Bitch

message 176: by A (new)

A H Just started with The Help by Kathryn Stockett . Expecting a lot from it!

message 177: by Amy (new)

Amy | 106 comments I'm reading "The Notable Brain of Maximilian Ponder" - about a man who shuts himself away for 30 years with no outside distraction to record every single memory and detail in his brain. It's great and I do recommend it, but I would have gone down a slightly different route with the plot line. Good nonetheless, and a very enjoyable read!

87% way through and really enjoying it. Although parts of it are slightly predictable (Tris/Tobias romance for example), it is an enjoyable read. I'll definitely be reading the next two, when I find the time.

message 189: by A (new)

A H I've also started with Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell and still reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Awesome Iasa. I am starting it soon. I read a book called The Child Thiefby Brom last year which is a dark version of Peter Pan and Brom was inspired by the original Peter Pan to write the Child Thief and it was a pretty good read.

Liz, I've read Middlemarch, and didn't find it too bad. It does pick up though, at the start it is rather slow.

Feel free to message me about it :)

message 195: by J.M. (new)

J.M. Paden (jmpaden) Currently reading This Star Won't Go Out by Ester Earl! I've read 86 pages in 2 days and for me that's a lot (I usually read in little chunks)! I needed to read something like this at this point in my life and I'm glad I'm reading something from a young person. If you consider reading it though, just read up on the premiss first. :D
